June and her friends dragged their feet back to the lodge. Their search for any clues had tired them out and now their spirits were crushed. After talking to some police officers they found out that the man they were looking for had moved on to Gaoling, which was another day away from the town. The thought of having to ride for another day was very unpleasant.
"When we find this guy, am gonna kill him."
Ling smiled. "Not if I kill him first."
When they arrived at the lodge, they told the adults all the information they had gathered and once they were shown their rooms, June took a bath, returned to the room that was set aside for the ladies and fell asleep.
The following day, the whole crew was up by sunrise and they started off for Gaoling. The trip felt similar to the previous day except for the excitement. It was watered down by the rocky road and the high altitude's thin air. The animals moved a lot slower than they normally would have. Eventually they arrived at the gates of the great city known as Gaoling and once again June, Ling and Shen wondered off in search of their target.
They decided to start with the central police building and as they wondered through the center square, June marveled at the buildings and the people's clothing. "It is so peaceful here. if it wasn't for the color and square symbols around the city, I would have thought we were anywhere but the Earth Kingdom."
"It must be a blessing to be overlooked by the Fire Nation," Shen said. "Even in Omashu, most people are in their homes at this hour of the night."
"Still, you have to hand it to them. They are making the best that they can out of the bad situation that surrounds them."
June was so drawn in by the beauty of the city that she ended up being separated from the twins.
"Ling! Shen!"
Great. Just what I needed. Oh well, guess they'll find me back at the lodge. If I can find the lodge.
"You seem lost."
She turned around to see a young handsome man leading a mount by the reins.
"Uhm... I .... Yes... I am lost."
"Perhaps I can help. Where are you headed?"
"The Pol.... Uhmm..."After some thought she decided to withhold her true intentions of wondering about at night in a new city. "I was trying to find my way... my way back to the Beifong Lodge." She was finding it hard to speak to this fine looking man.
"I am more than willing to take you there."
"Oh no no no no no. I wouldn't trouble to want you...I mean, I wouldn't want to trouble you."
What is wrong with me?
"It's no trouble at all," he said with a beaming smile. "My name is Dan."
"June!... My... My name is June."
"That is a lovely name."
She blushed and tried to hide it by looking away and tucking a few strands of her hair behind her ear.

After walking for a while Shen noticed that June was no longer following them.
"Wait. Where's June"
"Smooth move Shen. You managed to lose the only girlfriend you ever had."
"She is not my girlfriend."
"Ok, fine. Whatever you say."
Ling continued to walk towards the police building that was a few feet ahead of them.
"Shouldn't we go back and look for her."
"Relax she is capable of taking care of herself. Besides, we are almost at the police building. Let's go in and ask a few questions, and then look for June."
Even though he had a bad feeling, he agreed to go with his sister's idea. The police had seen a man with a scared nose yesterday but they weren't sure if he was still in the city. They agreed to help them search for him.
"All done. Now where do you think we should start looking for your girlfriend?"
"She is not my girlfriend."
"How about we head back to the lodge. If she isn't there then we can get everyone to help us look for her."
Shen was relieved to find her safe at the lodge but he was not happy about her new friend.
"Wow," said Ling. "I think you have some competition."
He ignored his sister. When he introduced himself to Dan, he knew right away that he could not get along with him.
It's a good thing I won't see him again.
After Dan left, the crew got together for an update.
"Alright," said Feng. "Tomorrow the real fun begins."
