3.17% The Jeweler / Chapter 2: Chapter 2

บท 2: Chapter 2

He grabbed onto the bar and pushed his thumb into it. It was like a putty that he could easily change the shape of with even the lightest touch. He twisted it and folded it into a thousand shapes before settling on a very basic bulky ring with only a tiny hole for the gem.

[Forge Activated]

The forge had 2 compartments open, one below the projector which had a variety of tools and another with a hot bar of iron in a burning on the verge of melting. Even when he didn't know what to do, the training dimension told him. The system guided him to the tongs. He used them to pick up the bar and place it on the table. He used the hammer to hit down and compress the metal, turning its color darker and more dense. Normally, sparks of impurities would come out but this one was 100% iron so it didn't. After checking his ring size, he matched it and grabbed a pole with that size, and pounded it into the iron. He picked up the pole and used a small chisel to carve out the edges, reinforcing it when he had no place for the extra iron. After a couple of hours, he had done it.

Jake picked up the ring, stared at it for a few moments and smiled at his handy work.

Even though he didn't want to be a jeweler, he was content with what he could do in just a few hours.

He was very eager to finish his first ring, not only for the quest but because he wanted to see what it could do. Most of the lowest level jewelry only gave 1-3 stat points, but having a gem in it made its chance of a skill around 95%.

He then moved to the engraver. Unlike the forge, the gem was shown at an extremely increased size and could only be changed with the small pen that appeared next to it. Jake wasn't bad nor good at drawing but tried his best to draw something cool. It ended up looking like a few spikes around a hand. Not long after he materialized it and held it between his fingers. It was too small for him to see the inscription, and with its rough and uncut shape it wouldn't stand out much in an ocean of sand.

But he was proud of it nonetheless. He placed the gem in the single socket of his ring as a burst of energy was sucked in.

His eyes lit up at his creation.

Fire claws were a relatively common spell of early fire mages, and with the bonus magic stat, he could sustain them longer.

[Inner accessory]

Hides an accessory inside the user's soul, giving them its abilities and bonus stats. Can be switched with any accessory currently equipped.

On the outside, it was a pretty useless ability. It basically gives you one extra place to put jewelry. But for Jake it was truly a blessing, he could hide his class by using his fire claws.

and go to school normally without most of the bullying.

He activated his inner accessory ability to put the ring in his soul, mostly for safekeeping. He finally got out of bed at noon, cracking his neck and walking outside. Jake's suburb was very plain, basic houses with basic people. Most of the people couldn't afford to go to boarding school as he did, so they wouldn't have the same opportunity to get strong.

Everyone got their birthday month off for their 16th, mostly so they could awaken peacefully around others as well as sort out their affairs if they wished to hide their abilities. Jake only knew one person in his town with the same year and month birthday. This was his good friend Donavan, or Don. Unlike Jake, Don was a dark ork with a large muscular build and had recently become a magic swordsman. Unlike jewelers, magic swordsmen were rare because not everyone could pick them. Only people with naturally high magic and strength could pick it as their first class. On Don's back was a large greatsword.

"Hey Don, saw on snapgram you became a magic swordsman?"

"Yes sir," he said in a casual tone

"Even got the medal to match" he noted with a light snicker and a thumb pointed at his back.

They were both not big on talking but still communicated well with the words that were said.

"Up for a spar?" Jake said, raising his eyebrow at Don.

They were both trained to lust for combat, and it had worked. The first thing they wanted to do with spells and skills was a fight, and they were going to do it. The local fighting arena was pretty cheap but could hold them fine at their current level.

Public battle arenas were mostly funded by the government, as they needed stronger men and women to fight with them. Some places were simply too dangerous to be colonized, for now.

They both got into positions and pulled their weapons. When the buzzer went off Don launched full force at Jake without hesitation. After activating his claws, Jake redirected the slash into the ground. It didn't take long before Don slashed from the ground toward Jake, thunder sparking on the blade. Jake used one claw to block and another to attack at Don's shoulder. The blade cut through his claws and into his side, causing extreme searing pain. This is where the duel ended.
