Just as a glance at the map foretold, the journey was grueling. After the Paris-Moscow flight in an Aeroflot plane, in the Russian capital they had boarded the Trans-Siberian Railway at its head station. The journey to Irkutsk took three days and four hours, in which the train was at the same time a means of transport, a hotel and a restaurant.
When the loudspeakers finally announced the arrival in Irkutsk, the three of the travelers could not believe it. The first task was to loosen their muscles and stretch their legs, immediately pick up their suitcases and backpacks, and descend as fast as possible to the ground.
They had already booked a moderately priced hotel from Paris, and the taxi dropped them off in front of the hostel after another half-hour drive.
