บท 81: Love and food are the only things you should never refuse.
After leaving Dumbledore's office, Lynn seemed troubled. Learning that his father had been a member of the Order of the Phoenix made it difficult for him to decide how to feel about the organization.
Originally, Lynn was indifferent toward groups like the Order of the Phoenix. In his view, their actions against Voldemort mostly consisted of small-scale operations. Unlike Grindelwald, they lacked the ability to mobilize widespread resistance from ordinary wizards.
By comparison, the Order of the Phoenix seemed like a band of stubborn losers. They were unable to stop Voldemort and instead suffered heavy casualties themselves.
If Harry's mother hadn't used blood magic and the power of love to shield him from Voldemort's Killing Curse, the British wizarding world would undoubtedly have fallen under Voldemort's rule.
However, learning that his father had been part of the Order of the Phoenix complicated things. As the son of one of its members, his relationship with the Order became much more delicate.
"Regardless of all that, the most important thing right now is to use everything I have to enhance my magical power. That way, when the time comes, I'll be the one to decide—Voldemort or the Order of the Phoenix," Lynn muttered to himself as he shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts.
Returning to the Slytherin dormitory, Lynn focused on the tasks still at hand after defeating Voldemort. He needed to replenish the Fiendfyre he had used against the Dark Lord's soul fragment and craft an alchemical device capable of channeling the Philosopher's Stone's immense magical energy for spells.
Meanwhile, Irina and Ron took Harry and Hermione to the school hospital.
Hermione, who had been hit by Quirrell's Stunning Spell, had only suffered minor injuries and regained consciousness on the way to the hospital.
Madam Pomfrey, however, insisted Hermione remain for a thorough magical examination and observation, keeping her in the hospital wing overnight.
Harry, though not physically attacked, had been affected when Voldemort's soul fragment abandoned Quirrell's body. The residual malice from the fragment clashed with the protective enchantment on Harry's bloodline, briefly disturbing his soul. As a result, Harry remained unconscious for three full days before finally waking in the hospital wing.
The day after Harry awoke was the Hogwarts End-of-Year Feast.
Over the preceding days, Lynn had been busy refining a portion of the Fiendfyre. However, the amount restored was far less than the two-thirds consumed in his battle with Voldemort's soul fragment.
If he wanted to replenish his entire supply, Lynn estimated it would take at least three days and nights of continuous effort without rest.
Crafting the alchemical apparatus to regulate the Philosopher's Stone's magical energy, on the other hand, required at least seven full days of labor.
As Lynn sat quietly at the Slytherin table in the Great Hall, waiting for the feast to begin, the hall was decorated in green and silver—celebrating Slytherin's seventh consecutive House Cup victory.
To his right sat Draco Malfoy and his two companions. Across the hall, at the Gryffindor table, Irina was seated with her housemates.
Shortly after, Dumbledore arrived and began his speech.
Following his remarks, Dumbledore turned to the House Cup ceremony.
"Now, as you all know, we must first announce the results of the House Cup competition. The final standings are as follows:
"In fourth place, Hufflepuff, with 352 points.
"In third place, Gryffindor, with 389 points.
"In second place, Ravenclaw, with 426 points.
"And in first place, Slytherin, with an astonishing 572 points!" Dumbledore announced with enthusiasm.
The hall erupted into applause from the Slytherin table.
This year, Irina had earned over 100 points for Gryffindor, but due to deductions during the Norwegian Ridgeback incident, Gryffindor's final tally stood at 389—77 points higher than the original 312 in the past timeline.
Similarly, Slytherin benefited from avoiding the point deductions caused by Malfoy's actions in the original timeline. Combined with the over 100 points Lynn had earned for Slytherin himself, their total climbed to a record-breaking 572, a staggering 146 points ahead of Ravenclaw.
"Even Dumbledore can't make up enough points to snatch this from Slytherin now," Irina thought to herself with a smirk.
"Yes, yes, well done, Slytherin," Dumbledore said warmly. "However, there are certain recent events that must also be considered."
The Great Hall fell silent. Irina's eyes narrowed.
"Surely, he doesn't intend to award extra points now of all times?" she wondered.
"First, to Mr. Ron Weasley," Dumbledore announced. "For showing wisdom in seeking help during insurmountable danger, allowing our heroes to receive timely assistance, I award Gryffindor 50 points!"
Lynn and Irina both rolled their eyes at the same time.
"Timely assistance, indeed," Lynn muttered under his breath.
If Dumbledore had arrived any later, he wouldn't have even seen Voldemort's remaining soul fragment.
The Gryffindor table erupted in cheers—not for Ron, but for Lynn, Irina, Hermione, and Harry.
News of their battle against Voldemort had spread across the school in the past few days. Among the students, the four of them were hailed as heroes.
For Hermione and Harry, the title was practically undeserved since they had spent most of the encounter unconscious.
While the attention made Lynn's alchemical work difficult due to frequent visits from admiring Slytherins, he recognized that befriending these well-connected students could benefit him in the future.
Irina, on the other hand, embraced her newfound fame. Her Gryffindor housemates, knowing her love for sweets, showered her with snacks and pastries, which she graciously accepted—despite initially feeling awkward about the praise.
After all, as Irina saw it, "Love and food are the only things you should never refuse."
