Calmness and peacefulness washed over Joanna this night. It was completely different from the three nights she had spent at the Powel Orphanage, where she was faced with dreadfulness before she went to sleep.
She was alone and did not need to feel restless due to the presence of the man in her room. There was no man who teased her for his amusement or burdened her with his stubborn gaze at the moment.
Under the blanket of the warm glow emitted from the candles and oil lamps in her room, the sound of flipped paper when Joanna turned over the page was the only sound filling the stillness in the room. It was a really serene atmosphere.
