According to Xander and Ryder, their friendship made lots of twists and turns. However, they were good friends. For Xander to let Ryder inside his villa, knowing Luca was inside, and even introduced the two showed their relationship.

What Luca was so confused about was that Ryder knew Xander for over a decade now. By the looks of it, they were best of friends. Since Luca didn't get the original Luca's memories, she didn't know if Ryder was acting on an order or on his own volition.
