The party ended up being a huge success. Mr. Wu had put a lot of work into it and it showed. Even though Sun Mei had never actually been to the offices of Golden Horse Publishing before, she could tell that the building had been redecorated for the occasion.
The elegant lobby was full of Christmas lights and golden tinsel, while a huge bright star was hanging from the ceiling.
Yu Zan and Sun Mei stared around them in amazement.
"I don't think this is even the main area of the party," Sun Mei said slowly.
Yu Zan shrugged. "Go big or go home."
"We are certainly not going home."
Although the receptionist's desk was empty, a sign on it directed any visitors to head to the third floor and partake in the Christmas festivities.
The two girls called the elevator and waited. When the doors of the elevator opened, a big stuffed Santa welcomed them.
"Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas!" it said in a happy mechanical voice.
"Wow, Mr. Wu outdid himself," Yu Zan commented as they squeezed beside the stuffed Santa and pressed the button.
"To think that he didn't even want to decorate a Christmas tree at home!" Sun Mei laughed.
"He didn't?"
"No, he always decorated it with Lily so he didn't want to do it now that she's gone."
Yu Zan looked at her with a weird expression. "You people need to stop talking about Lily as if she has died. She'll be back next week."
"Try telling that to Mr. Wu!"
When they reached the third floor and the elevator doors slid open, they were greeted by the sight of Mr. Wu in a Santa hat, laughing his head off with a few of his colleagues.
"I think he's coping just fine!" Yu Zan yelled over the loud Christmas music.
The girls approached Mr. Wu and his company, who were all drinking colorful cocktails.
"Sun Mei, you're here!" Mr. Wu's face lit up when he saw her. "I'm sorry that I've been gone all day. This took a lot of my time, but it was worth it. Let me introduce you to everyone!"
Sun Mei met so many people in the span of a few seconds that she could hardly recall anyone's name five minutes later.
Yu Zan, however, memorized one particular name.
"Isn't Parker Qin hot?" she asked Sun Mei in a whisper.
"Who's Parker Qin?"
"The graphic novel illustrator."
"I didn't know they published graphic novels."
"You met the guy five minutes ago!"
"I met a lot of people five minutes ago. Which one was he?"
"The guy over there!" Yu Zan pointed to the corner of the room, where a young man with black hair was standing quietly, sipping his drink alone.
"Oh! He's your fantasy man! The party introvert!"
"I know!" Yu Zan said excitedly.
"Go talk to him." Sun Mei urged her while gently pushing her in his direction.
"Does he have a girlfriend?"
"How should I know? I didn't even remember his name."
"Should we ask Mr. Wu?"
Before they could do so, they saw a young woman with dark hair and glasses approach Parker and talk to him in a flirty manner.
