บท 22: Chapter 23: A Slaughter

I was right, there were many goblins on top of the ladder. They were guarding the entrance so that no one would be able to escape their eyes. Those dead bodies of the goblins I killed in their village yesterday must've alerted them, so they decided to stay awake at night to see if there are any intruders in their village.

I have no other choice but to reveal myself if I want to attack their village. Sad that I'll have to give up on the plan of assassinating the Ogre but if I want to earn Kill Points, then this is a necessity. Besides the Ogre, no goblins in this village is my match if I only battle 10 goblins at a time. Most of their power levels range from 2,000 to 15,000, I can certainly take them on.

Slowly, I put on the necklace that I bought yesterday and immediately became invisible from the normal eyes. This will only work in the dark, and luckily for me, the goblins on top of the ladder didn't have a single object to illuminate them in light. I hear sounds, chatting maybe, some dangling of metallic objects, must be their weapons, and footsteps.

I ran towards the ladders, then with a huff, I jumped up to greet my enemies. There were 5 goblin warriors around the ladder, and so the moment I landed on the surface, I took a jump towards the goblin on my right with the poisonous dagger in my hand, and I slash its throat, then I used its body to jump to another goblin and stabbed my dagger to its head, killing it almost instantly.

The other goblins immediately became aware of my presence but it was too late, I used the ground below them to form spikes that pierced their feet, making them immobile. I then propelled myself towards the goblins, and in the blink of an eye, I had already cut their necks. They bled purple blood as I stood behind their corpses, unremorseful.

Soon, I saw other goblins coming in as they had heard the noise the goblins made when they died earlier. But the good thing is that they cannot see me for I have this magical necklace that turns me invisible whenever I wear it in the shadows cast by something.

Most of the goblins that came were weak, so I only used fireballs to burn them all alive.

*Whoosh* *Whoosh* *Bam!* *Bam!*

"Ghar gur ger graaaaahh!"

All of them screamed bloody hell as they were slowly being eaten away by the fire. There was no water nearby, so they tried rolling on the ground or running away but to no avail. Then I controlled the earth to form numerous large rock spikes and I made them float above the ground as I threw them all the goblins in the area.

I was not showing any mercy towards these creatures, because… why? They will show no mercy when they slaughter a village of other species, and I will gladly do the same towards them. They attacked me, so they are my enemies, and showing mercy to my enemies will just kill me. I know that because I've read about past heroes who showed mercy to their foes, and they were killed for that.

I am never going to make the same mistakes they did!

The one road leading to the gates of the village and the house of the ogre was full of goblin corpses.

Numerous notifications rang in my head but I silenced them with 1 command.

Purple blood covered the ground, and, for some reason, I simply smiled as I walked over their bodies.

Taking a life just feels so… natural to me. Maybe it's another thing that my creator gave to me? Yeah, maybe that's it.

I saw 20 or so goblin mages casting spells towards me but I just formed a barrier as they released their spells. My barrier was stronger than their attacks, thicker also, so they weren't able to even crack it with their magic spells. I clapped my hands, and I pushed my mana to the limit as hundreds of fireballs erupted in the sky.

And then, I brought them down to the goblin village, to burn it to the ground.

I was no longer invisible to them because light has already touched me, yet it is now futile, for their village is now slowly burning to ashes.

I saw a shadow looming over me, and with a frantic mind, I barely dodged a swing of a giant club. But the force it made sent me flying to the nearby debris of a goblin's house.

I cleared my head and stood up, only to puke blood. Turns out, I didn't dodge it properly. The impact reverberated to my insides, causing some of my humanly functions to go slightly wrong.

I saw the ogre, gnashing its sharp teeth angrily at me. Its skin was as red as the crimson twilight, its eyes yellower than the lava of a volcano, and it wore leather armor that sounded almost like steel whenever he moved.

Then, it spoke, "Human! What have we done for you to unleash your rage upon our village? Is it because we kidnapped your females? Then they are already gone! I believe you have taken them with you yesterday! So why attack us? We have lived peacefully in this land for many years, only kidnapping a few female humans for reproduction! What is so wrong with that, human?"

I wiped the blood off my mouth, and said, "I am only taking extreme measures so that your kind wouldn't be able to attack us. I mean, if all of you are dead, then how could you attack us? It is only the survival of the fittest, I hope you understand that, ogre. You're quite smart, after all."

"For a nonsense like that, you're willing to wipe out my kind? What if I wipe out your kind!? Wouldn't you be wrathful!? For so many years, your kind has stolen from us! Pillaged our lands! We worked hard, and then you humans would steal all of our hard work! Your kind has killed many of my kind for their own selfish greed! What is so wrong about doing the same to your kind!?" The ogre was shouting, his voice full of rage towards me.

I simply smiled at him, not mockingly, no, because I understand his reasoning.

"Yes, of course you would want to protect your kind. Hm, hm, but I don't give a sh*t about my kind. My species could die off and I wouldn't care, as long as I have my family. It's just that, your kind were a threat to my family. I can't have that now, can I?"

"Then, I will simply kill you and take revenge for my fallen blood by killing your family! Maybe then you'll understand!"

He charged at me while raising his giant club with one hand. He was fast, but not as fast as me.

I jumped away to dodge his swing, only to feel something coming right behind me. Not panicking, I made a small platform from the earth to rise up and made it my stepping stone to jump up even further, narrowly dodging numerous ice spears that the remaining goblin mages cast. A few hit me but my armor did its job of protecting me, but it couldn't protect me from the coldness. But I managed to melt them off by using my fire magic, though I might have to brace myself from the ogre's attack.

'So they were alive. This might become a problem.' I said in my thoughts.

The ogre swung its club again at me, and this time, I wasn't able to dodge it.

"Gah!" My small body was rocketed through the debris of the houses, further damaging me. It didn't help that my mana was low either since I used almost all of it to cast those fireballs earlier.

This is becoming harder and harder, but…

The ogre jumped, and then landed a few meters away from me. He held his giant club on his massive shoulders as it slowly walked towards me, so sure that its victory was final.

"Any last words, child of man?" It said, its grin slowly growing wider.

"Yeah, look behind you." I said.

Then the ogre felt a stabbing feeling behind it, and it slowly kneeled down as its strength grew weaker. It fell to the ground with a loud *thud!*.

I stood up, and walked over it.

It looked at me, and said weakly, "W-What… have you done… child of… man?"

I gestured for someone behind it to come to me, and the ogre widened its eyes in realization as it saw another baby human that looked exactly the same as me.

"C-Cowardly human… I will… never… forget about… this…!" The ogre said with its last dying breath.

I closed its eyes to at least honor my enemy, and I walked on top of its large body to take out the poisonous dagger to stab it once more in the head, just to make sure it's dead. And then another, for safety measures. And another stab to REALLY make sure it was dead.

Hmm, I hope it's not that bad. The fighting scenes, are they good? I don't really know how to write fighting scenes that much. And since this short arc is for my MC to grow out of his sociopathic tendencies a bit, there won't be a fighting scene for a while after this.

Oh yeah, I'll introduce the main antagonist in the next chapter... well, a little. The only thing you'll get is his appearance and a bit of his ideology.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter, stay well, and as always, thank you for reading!

Leave a review, too. I need reviews for my novel to reach greater heights! And also, drop some stones if you have.
