บท 19: Chapter 19: An Illegal Immigrant

I first peeked my head through the door of the shed to see if there are any goblin in sight, thankfully there were none. I went out of the shed and saw the four goblins I killed earlier with poison has already had their bodies half-melted. This is because of the effect of the poison. A single drop will eat a creature's insides in less than an hour, and soon nothing would be left of them.

I stared at the goblins' corpses a little and realized that I felt no disgust towards them for some reason. It must be because of the way I was created by my creator, as tutorial bot explained earlier, I am a being made to be the strongest in combat.

I gestured for the women to come with me, and they followed me outside, where they saw the corpses of those goblins.

'So he was not lying, huh. Poor child, already exposed to the cruel nature of this world.' Bluesette said in her thoughts, sad at the fact that this toddler seems unfazed by the goblin corpses around him.

I noticed the blue-haired woman looking at me. Is that pity I see in her eyes? Does she pity me? I don't understand her. I decided to ignore it, and said, "Let's go. These cloaks should hide our presence from the goblins."

They nodded, though I can still see some of them shaking. It must be because of what they've seen so far. They were probably normal village women, captured and were almost defiled by goblins. I have read from the monster compendium books about the way goblins treat their human live stocks, and it was not great. Alexander forbid me to read those books but… well, I'm not exactly keen on following the rules.

I walked around the alleyways while the women were following me. I am trying to find the miner shed I came out of earlier, and it's hard to discern them from other sheds since they were built almost the same in terms of outer appearance.

I should've left some kind of mark so that I could find it easily but I was stupid, too reckless, and hasty.

As we walked in the alleyways, I saw a single goblin walk in front of us. As it was about to scream to garner the attention of other goblins, I made the earth below it turn into a long and sharp spike that impaled the goblin form down below its head, killing it almost immediately.

Except for the blue-haired woman, the women behind shook in fear and disgust. I looked at them and gestured to stay silent so that we wouldn't attract any more attention from the other goblins.

They cupped their mouths with their hands and nodded with tears coming out of the corner of their eyes. Even though I want to rescue them, they are too afraid of every single thing. If one of them becomes a burden, then I'll leave her behind. I can't risk alerting the ogre about my existence since it's too powerful for me to fight it right now.  But if I did leave some women behind, everything I've done so far would've been useless.

I don't even understand why I wanted to rescue them in the first place. Is it because I wanted to be a hero? How utterly ridiculous. I've read stories about people who wanted to become heroes that wanted to slay the big bad evil, and at the end of their journey, they were met with a peaceful life and a beautiful wife to be with. But that will never be the case for the heroes in real life.

A hero's story is full of tragedy, and at the end, they would be left broken, shattered by the world's cruelty. A hero? I would never become one. The only thing I want to do is to protect those dear to me, but, maybe, from time to time, I would help those in need. It's not because I want to be a hero, no, it's because I just can.

As we continued, we no longer saw any goblin and I finally found the miner shed where I came out of. Fortunately, there were no goblins that saw the dead goblins here and we were safe to go down the ladder to the cave.

I looked at them, and said, "All of you go down first, I'll stay here until all of you have climbed down."

With a bit of hesitation, the women went down the ladders one by one. When it was the blue-haired woman's turn, she turned around and then carried me in her arms.

"W-What are you doing!?" I said in a hushed tone.

She smiled, and said, "Let's climbed down together, it has enough space to fit us both." She then carried as she went down the ladders, while I was embarrassed because I could feel our skins make contact with each other. It didn't help that she was naked under the cloak.

Soon, we reached the underground cave. While I can see everything in dark with my mana-enhanced night vision, the women didn't have that kind of luxury because they can't use mana. Only the blue-haired woman was able to use it since she can use her mana properly.

The women had to crawl in all fours because the space in here isn't that big, but I can walk just fine because I'm a toddler.

I led the way while they followed behind me, and since we no longer had to stay silent because we're underground, we were able to move fast enough to reach the end of the small tunnel in less than half-an-hour. Then we entered the big tunnel, which is where I fought and killed those group of goblins earlier.

When we got out, I saw that the women were tired, well, except for the blue-haired woman. It must be because she's physically stronger than the other women that she can go long without getting tired.

"Let's all rest here for a moment. In the meantime, let's introduce ourselves to each other." I said.

They all agreed to that idea and sat down against the smooth walls of the tunnel.

"Okay, I'll introduce myself first. I'm Auguste, no last name, an orphan, and also studying cultivation at the moment. As you've seen so far, I can use mana even though I'm not a soldier of the empire. While rare, people who can control and increase their mana can be seen from time to time. Mostly, these people are stronger than the soldiers of the two empires because they use unorthodox methods of growing stronger. Anyway, enough about that, there's a safe house where me and my siblings have been living. I'm going to take all of you there later to sleep for the night, and I need to return soon lest Alexander finds out I've been gone for a few hours. Now, it's your turn."

The next one to introduce herself has brown hair, black eyes, a cute face with a tiny nose and mouth, and smooth white skin.

"H-Hello, my name is Hazel. My parents named me based on my eyes. I-I used to live in a small village somewhere near the village that was destroyed by the soldiers of the Albion Empire nearly four months ago. We were living in peace when the goblins suddenly attacked and raided the village. M-Many of the women in our village were raped and killed by those goblins, and the men were also k-killed, even my father who used to be a soldier for the empire died by their hands. I-I can't forget my m-mother and s-sisters' faces as they were ravaged and defiled by those goblins, I-I just can't!" Towards the end, she started yelling and bawling. The other women were also uncomfortable since it is obvious that this happened to them as well.

Since it was obvious that Hazel couldn't continue anymore, the blue-haired woman decided to take this chance to introduce herself.

"My name's Bluesette. My father named me after my hair since he thought it was cool. Anyway, I was captured by those pesky goblins when I left my adventurer team to hunt some meat. I was ambushed by two goblin groups, each having 5 goblin warriors and 1 goblin mage. Even I can't fight against those numbers. I killed 4 of them before I was taken to their village. So that's my story of how I was captured." She said, but strangely she didn't have this somber atmosphere while talking and instead talked more lightly.

I suddenly noticed something in her words, and pointed it out, "Adventurers? Wait, I thought that adventurers only exist in the Silver Continent? Our continent hasn't been accepting immigrants for the last few centuries due to the strife that's currently going on, so how were you and your team able to cross the borders?"

She scratched her head, then smiled sheepishly as she said, "Well, while we were fighting a Kraken in the middle of the ocean, we were knocked out and swept away by the waves. Fortunately, our captain managed to wake up and catch us on time as we were being swept away separately. The team captain is strong, he was able to fight the Kraken alone while he was defending us and kill it. But since we had to venture into the ocean to battle the Kraken, we didn't realize that we had already crossed the border and entered the territories of the bronze continent. Anyway, we survived and managed to eat three times a day since we hunt our food. Captain's been thinking of a plan on how to return to our home soon, but I was captured and I think they've been searching for me so I wasn't that worried. I left some tracks using my hair after I was captured, after all."

Wow, how could they be so reckless? Didn't they have any backup plan if things go wrong? I don't know how they could cross the oceanic borders while fighting a goddamn Kraken but if there were soldiers there at the time, they could've been killed because most Albion soldiers are A-Class assholes, as we've seen when they threatened the village we have been living in to hand Flare to them. And by Hazel's words earlier, the village must've been destroyed by them after we left.

It's a tragedy, but we're way past that by now. I'm not soulless enough to say that I don't care about their deaths but that's that, they're dead and the village is gone. The End.

Anyway, I sighed as I looked at the other women, and said, "It's obvious that most of you had your villages destroyed by those goblins, and simultaneously at that. Since all of you have no place to return to, I'll have to ask Alexander if I can have you guys live with us for the time being. But I'm not sure if he will agree because I sneaked out in the middle of the night to infiltrate a goblin village, and he doesn't even know it. Alexander is quite the overprotective parent, and he'll probably scold me later."

They all looked at each other and then nodded, agreeing with the idea. But they know it's not certain whether they'll get to live there or not.

I stood up and walked towards the middle, ready to return to the safe house.

"Great! Let's go, and as—" I suddenly felt chills as I was talking, and I saw the women staring at something behind something.

I slowly turned around, and little by little, I saw a set of legs behind me and when I looked up, I saw Alexander's face smiling at me but instead of a warm smile, it sent chills to my back.

"Aha…aha…ahahaha! Y-You shouldn't be here." I said while nervously laughing.

He leaned down towards me, and said, "And neither should you."

Hmm, someone should probably prepare my funeral and serve a nice delicious cake full of strawberries because, today, I'll die.

Promise me you'll tell Vane that he's my BFF, that is my last wish.
