When a man delivers a threat such as the one that Daemon had all but succinctly spelt out, a woman like Zina should feel elated, right? So why did the need to disappear and hide away from him only intensify at that moment? How was it that she could not bear to stand before him?

She shut her eyes, shaking her head. "That won't be necessary. As I've said before, you should not concern yourself about this."

"The hell I won't be concerned about this." Daemon spat out, the words like a whip cracking against her back.
