In these moments, Charlotte unconsciously felt that it was the end.
She stiffened right next to the door, as if several arms were clinging to her and preventing her from moving.
Tears welled up in her eyes and she bit her lower lip.
"Oh, no!"
After seeing Charlotte's sight, Dmitri immediately retreated and raised his hands in a surrender position.
"Please don't cry, I'm really a good person. In fact, I'm a friend-"
Without hearing more, Charlotte closed the door in Dmitri's face and locked it.
She leaned her back against the door as tears rolled down her cheeks as she tried to contain her exaggerated excitement.
In the hallway, Dmitri stood frustrated with himself for making a huge mistake, but he did not stop there.
He approached the door and knocked gently with his fingers, trying to make another start.
"Lady Charlotte. I'm Leonid's friend. I came to pick up Hunter."
He said, resting his head on the door and waiting for Charlotte's response, who was still trying to suppress herself.
"Lady Charlotte…"
Dmitri tried to talk to you, but Charlotte did not respond to him at all.
He sighed and finally stepped back, realizing the magnitude of his actions. Dmitri didn't understand why he had an aura that frightened Charlotte, or whether something was wrong with others.
However, this would not justify him scaring away a woman like Charlotte Smith.
Dmitri knocked on the door again, saying in a pleading tone.
"Lady Charlotte."
"Wait a minute…please."
Dmitri finally got a response from Charlotte.
"Okay, I'll wait."
After hearing Dmitri's words, Charlotte, who was still wiping away the tears that were falling uncontrollably, moved.
Perhaps she felt more frightened than usual, Charlotte thought to herself and whether she had become weaker over time.
She went to her bedroom, took her phone and sent a text to Leonid.
Charlotte: [Master Leonid, is it true that you sent that person to get Hunter.]
Leonid: [Yes, why do you ask?]
In less than a minute Charlotte got a response from Leonid.
Leonid: [Did that idiot scare you?]
Leonid: [Well there's no need to be afraid of him because of his appearance.]
Leonid: [He's a good person.]
Leonid continued sending letters one after another to reassure Charlotte, and he succeeded in doing so.
Charlotte would not lie to herself and say that Leonid's letters were not only comforting, they were more than enough to gently push her from behind to the front.
At this time. Not only did Leonid text Charlotte, he also sent a threatening message to Dmitri, who was standing outside waiting for Charlotte to come and open the door for him.
Dmitri waited for a while and began to look around and at the inner courtyard of the apartment building through the windows. The apartment building was perfect for any family and any single person.
While thinking, a text message arrived on his phone.
Dmitri raised an eyebrow and took out his phone, his brows furrowing when he read the sender's name.
Leonid: [Dmitri.]
Leonid: [You're dead.]
Dmitri's eyes darkened and he turned off his phone.
Was he now threatened by what happened or was Leonid just in a moody mood and wanted to threaten someone? Well, either way it won't matter.
The reason Dmitri came here wasn't to answer a sleep call or something.
In short, he wanted to see the woman whom the best agent at their headquarters had set his sights on, and to understand her nature and character.
Dmitri came only for Charlotte Smith.
Leonid: [Are you still afraid?]
Charlotte: [No. I wasn't afraid of him from the beginning, I just wanted to keep Hunter safe so I asked you about him.]
A small frown formed on Charlotte's plump lips as she responded to Leonid's message.
Charlotte: [Goodbye.]
She breathed a sigh of relief and then turned off her phone after sending a text message to Natalia stating that knocker was her neighbor's friend and that he had come to take the little puppy.
Then Charlotte went to the door and opened it.
"I apologize for ignoring you for so long. Please come inside."
Charlotte motioned for Dimitri to enter as she stepped back.
"I'll offer you a cup of coffee as an apology for what happened."
"Very well. I accept your invitation, Lady Charlotte."
Dmitri tried to control himself and control his gaze, which almost penetrated Charlotte's reddened face.
He lowered his head slightly and slowly entered her house.
The doctor with dark circles, Dmitri, had a solid, seductive physique, a tall stature, and flawless skin, in addition to a refined taste in choosing clothes. Despite all these features, Charlotte did not feel comfortable with him.
"Please sit while I make you coffee."
"As you wish."
Dmitri's lips and eyes both smiled and he then went to the sofa opposite the door to sit down.
After a few moments, Charlotte brought a cup of coffee and carefully presented it to Dmitri.
"Help yourself."
"Thank you very much, Lady Charlotte."
"Please don't thank me. What I'm doing is just an apology gesture."
Dmitri nodded, smiling, then said quietly.
"Okay, I accept your apology."
Dmitri raised the coffee cup to his lips and took a quick sip. The warmth of the dark, bitter coffee tickled his senses, and he furrowed his eyebrows for a moment.
Charlotte remained calm and then said.
"Thank you."
"Did you thank me? Because I accepted your apology?"
Dmitri smiled and laughed gently.
"Oh my God. Lady Charlotte you are so kind."
"I'm not."
Charlotte answered sternly.
She crossed her arms, still avoiding looking into Dimitri's black eyes.
"Okay okay, I'm not."
Dmitri complied with Charlotte's desire, took off his glasses and put them in his jacket pocket.
There was silence between them for a moment, until Dmitri's voice broke the atmosphere saying.
"By the way, Lady Charlotte. A little conversation between us wouldn't hurt either of us. How about we talk while I finish my coffee? It would be a good opportunity to get to know each other, wouldn't it?"
"I don't know… "
Dmitri noticed that Charlotte's voice had become lower.
She may have wanted to refuse, but her high morals prevented her from directly refusing.
Dmitri moved his eyes, looked at her intertwined hands, and narrowed his eyes.
Charlotte was pinching her fingernails without realizing it, perhaps because she was nervous or perhaps because it was just a habit she had not given up.
After noticing this, Dmitri decided to lighten the atmosphere between them in order to relieve her of anxiety.
He put the coffee cup down and gestured to himself with his hand.
"Lady Charlotte."
"Huh?"
After hearing Charlotte's response, Dmitri quickly said in a cheerful tone.
"Do you not like my appearance, or am I ugly and scary to you?"
"No…of course not!"
Charlotte immediately denied the speculation out loud.
On the other hand, Dmitri laughed at her reaction, from calm to emotional, from irritation to annoyance and embarrassment. Charlotte was like an open book.
Charlotte could feel her cheeks heating up with embarrassment, so she lowered her head and said.
"You can talk to me…as you wish."
She muttered in a low voice, even though she was shy now.
"Okay, let's start by introducing ourselves. Call me Dmitri. I'm Leonid's dear friend and the only one you can count on."
"And I'm Charlotte, Mr. Leonid's reliable neighbor to take care of Hunter."
Dmitri stared at Charlotte's hand, which was raised slightly as if to say, "This is me" as she briefly introduced herself to him, and lowered it when she finished automatically.
"Leonid depends on both of us~. That's what we have in common."
"Hmm…"
"By the way, where is Hunter, I haven't seen him since you came in?"
"Hunter… he's sleeping in my bedroom."
The corners of Dmitri's lips rose, then he asked gently.
"I can see how much Hunter loves you, but does the lady love Hunter too?"
Charlotte paused for a moment and raised her head to look into Dmitri's eyes.
Finally I decided to face Dmitri and look into his eyes.
"Well… I sure like him, he's a cute animal."
Charlotte answered as she pressed herself to look into Dmitri's eyes.
In fact, ever since she started taking care of Leonid's puppy, Charlotte has felt closely connected to Hunter over time.
Dmitri looked at those eyes and the soft orbs inside them, and smiled.
"Well, I thought the lady was putting pressure on herself to take it."
"Why would I do that? He's just an animal, not a human."
"Hmm…well what about Leonid?"
Excitement flared up inside Dimitri and he continued.
"What does the lady think of Leonid? Do you like him?"
"Huh?…"
Dmitri's playful question caused Charlotte's eyes to widen involuntarily.
Dmitri could clearly see the bright redness that crept up Charlotte's cheeks and highlighted her white skin.
Charlotte was still stiff, and she could feel her heartbeat almost popping out of her chest.
She tried to move her lips, which had become a bit dry and hard. Charlotte had to respond quickly before Dmitri misunderstood her good intentions.
Despite her efforts, she could only shake her head left and right.
"Great, does this gesture mean yes?!"
Dmitri expressed his admiration with a thumbs up, still playing the funny guy who couldn't tell the difference between yes or no.
After hearing those words, Charlotte directly shook her head quickly and said loudly.
"no!"
Her voice was high and full of embarrassment.
"I don't know Mr. Leonid very well,…well maybe one month is more than enough to understand someone like him."
Dmitri raised his eyebrows at Charlotte's words and enjoyed them.
Meanwhile, Charlotte resisted the embarrassment and continued speaking.
"But it's impossible for me to like Mr. Leonid… Oh please that's enough, I'll go get Hunter for you just wait a minute."
Charlotte said and quickly got up.
"I hope it's a minute, I don't want to wait five minutes."
"I'll make sure to make it less than a minute…"
Charlotte responded to Dmitri's cheerful and sarcastic hopes. She headed to her bedroom.
It was impossible for Dmitri not to notice the confusion and shyness she had been experiencing moments ago, so Charlotte felt more and more embarrassed.
How would she face Leonid in the future? If Dmitri told him what happened between them, there was no way she would ever be able to look into Leonid's eyes again.
Charlotte opened the door to her room and carefully lifted Hunter, sleeping on her bed, into her arms. Then I remembered Leonid's sunglasses and took them too.
Charlotte left her bedroom and was almost at Dimitri's when her house bell rang.
Charlotte stops midway, while asking Dmitri if this is Leonid.
Well after all, Leonid was the man of impossible and unpredictable missions, so maybe he's the one who's the one.
For some reason, thinking about Leonid gradually made Dmitri's cheerfulness fade away.
"Wait please!"
Charlotte spoke in a louder voice than usual.
She walked over to Dmitri and gently handed him Hunter, as well as Leonid's glasses.
"This belongs to Leonid, give it to him."
"Okay, good."
Dmitri held Hunter in one hand and Leonid's unexpected glasses in the other, then watched Charlotte rush to the door and open it.
Dmitri noticed that this woman could not learn from her previous mistakes, as she opened the door without asking who was knocking.
"Daniel~!"
"Charlotte~!"
Charlotte smiled and was surprised to see Daniel, who ran towards her and hugged her.
Daniel hugged Charlotte like a little kid meeting his big sister.
"Nice to see you today, Daniel~."
"me too."
After exchanging a hug for a moment, Charlotte stepped back and motioned for Daniel to come in, and he entered immediately.
"How long have you not come to visit me, by the way I love your new hair color."
"About two days ago, by the way, do you want me to dye your hair the same color as mine? We'll look like brothers, Charlotte~!"
"Ahhh you're so cute, but I still like my hair color."
Charlotte smiled as she walked past Daniel, who stopped and was surprised to find a stranger inside Charlotte's apartment.
Daniel furrowed her eyebrows and pointed his finger at Dmitri.
"Who is this person?"
"Huh?"
Charlotte was astonished at Daniel's impudence when he pointed his finger at Dmitri without following proper etiquette, she quickly lowered his hand and said.
"He's a friend of Mr. Leonid. You should say hello to him, come on."
Daniel tilted his head towards Charlotte, his gentle spirit disappearing, and he returned to his slow and indifferent posture.
He thought slowly for a moment until he opened his lips.
"I don't want."
After Daniel finally answered, he turned away from Charlotte and sat down on the sofa, putting his hands in the pockets of his pullover.
"What's your name, hey? And why are you here? Are you trying to take advantage of—"
Charlotte moved hurriedly and covered Daniel's mouth with her palm.
She let out a deep sigh from her lips, feeling Daniel's lips frown under her palm, while his gray eyes stared coldly at Dimitri.
"Oh my God. I'm really sorry."
Charlotte apologized to Dimitri.
"It's okay, I can understand."
"You can? Really?"
Dmitri kept his smile as he nodded and then got up from the sofa, he was very relieved that the tarik was not the Leonid he was afraid to meet at the moment.
"Of course, isn't he your boyfriend?"
"my dear?"
"Hmm?"
After hearing Dmitri's words, Charlotte's mind suddenly stopped working.
As for Daniel, he tried to speak under Charlotte's palm, while his gray eyes sparkled as he mumbled.
"What, did my eyes misjudge?"
Dmitri continued the conversation with a friendly smile on his lips, enjoying Charlotte's reactions. In fact he knew very well who Daniel was to Charlotte.
Daniel may seem like a reliable man, but he is still a young man.
"By the way, I like your hair color."
Dmitri complimented Daniel's violet hair, his affectionate compliment bringing out a bright sparkle in Daniel's gray eyes.
Daniel was clearly quite impressed by Dmitri's compliment about his hair color, so he hastily gently removed Charlotte's hand from his mouth and pointed his finger at Dmitri again.
"This person, Charlotte, he is so cool I want to be friends with him. Is that okay?"
"Oh my God, do I look great to you."
Dmitri almost choked with arrogance after hearing Daniel's compliment, but what he heard next from Charlotte made his arrogance melt away.
"no."
Charlotte's response was very decisive, her fingers gently caressing Daniel's hair, before she added.
"I don't know him well, so not now."
Dmitri closed his eyes in response to Charlotte's words, perhaps a little hurt, but happy that Charlotte had some sudden wisdom.
