Chapter 55: New Name
"Of course, even for the most outstanding warriors."
With folded arms, Frank The Punisher gazed at Colin in front of him and spoke in a low, gravelly voice reminiscent of metal.
"Without going through the baptism of war, it's ultimately meaningless."
"I will inform Nick and have him arrange for you to participate in the Avengers' operations, transforming the combat skills you have learned during this time into true combat abilities."
"Furthermore, although you have a strong defensive capability that effectively shields you from enemy harm, you still lack in offensive techniques. So in the upcoming training, I will specifically focus on this aspect and practice a series of combat methods involving weapons such as daggers and firearms."
"You just said we didn't need practice, and now all of a sudden, there are so many training exercises?!"
Upon hearing Frank's addition, Colin's expression became somewhat perplexed.
In his mind, an image of an enemy holding Kryptonite to threaten Superman only to be shot dead by Superman with a gun emerged.
He shook his head, clearing the image from his mind.
In front of him, Frank's voice continued to resonate.
"...And of course, there are also follow-up medical and battlefield treatment methods. Having a strong defense doesn't mean you won't get injured, so learning these healing techniques is necessary."
At this point, Punisher looked expressionlessly at Colin and said in a calm tone, "You must remember that there is no absolute power in this world, even for an impregnable fortress. Every part of it has vulnerabilities and unknown weaknesses. What you need to learn is to conceal your weaknesses as much as possible and eliminate the enemy by any means before they discover it."
Punisher's merciless and brutal methods clearly had a significant connection to his own past experiences.
...
The time for action came earlier than expected.
"Do you have a new name in mind?"
Early the next morning, Nick Fury knocked on Colin's temporary residence door within the base and inquired.
"What?"
Faced with Nick's abrupt question, Colin's expression couldn't help but freeze.
But he quickly caught on, realizing that Frank hadn't informed Nick about the situation. He then said, "Your previous identity has been exposed to Hydra, posing a certain risk, so I you need a new identity for cover."
After hearing Nick's explanation, Colin immediately understood.
"Clark, Clark Kent."
After a brief thought, he told Nick his new name.
"Clark."
Remembering the name Colin had just mentioned, Nick Fury didn't ask further.
"It will take a few days to create the proof of your new identity. However, I can arrange a temporary identity for you before that."
"A temporary identity?"
Colin understood. This should be referring to the Avengers operation that Frank mentioned earlier. He nodded and asked, "What identity?"
Looking at Colin with his one intact eye, Nick Fury raised an eyebrow and smiled.
"Nick Fury."
Colin: "?!?!"
...
"Alright, stop here."
At the intersection of 58th Street and Broadway in New York, near Columbus Circle.
The passenger in the car looked towards a nearby café and said to the driver.
"That will be $39."
Glancing at the displayed amount on the meter, "Nick Fury" turned his head and addressed the passenger in the back seat.
"Credit card."
Nodding, the passenger calmly handed over a credit card from their wallet.
"So, what should I do next?"
Taking the offered credit card, "Nick Fury" or rather Colin lowered his voice and asked the person posing as a customer, who was sitting behind him.
"Do what a taxi driver should do."
Noticing the unease in Colin's tone, the disguised Nick Fury pointed at the steering wheel and smiled in response.
"For the remaining time, you can drive around nearby, and I'll call you once everything is finished."
Putting away the credit card, Colin asked one more question.
Nick opened the car door, about to get out, but then he seemed to remember something, halted his movement, and turned towards Colin, who was driving in front of him. "By the way, do not refuse to pick up passengers. It's strictly prohibited, and I don't want to hear any complaints when I come back."
After saying these words, Nick got off the taxi without looking back.
So, I'm just a disguised pawn?
Watching Nick's figure walking into the café, Colin couldn't help but retract his gaze with a helpless expression.
He looked up at the rearview mirror, seeing his face and Nick Fury's identical faces. Colin smirked and uttered the classic line of the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Mother fucker..."
Undeniably, cursing with such a face did have a certain impact.
Suppressing his amusement, Colin reached out and touched his face, feeling the lifelike disguise of "Nick Fury" until he touched a slightly protruding device on his temple, prompting him to stop.
Nano mask.
A disguise technology developed by Howard, it involved applying a layer of nanoscale mask on the face, changing facial features and skin color to achieve a perfect disguise.
Colin and Nick Fury had both used this technology to disguise their identities and appear openly on the streets of New York.
Driving aimlessly in the car, Colin shifted his attention to the café where Nick Fury was.
Focus and activate [Super Hearing].
Accompanied by a series of noisy sounds, Nick Fury's voice gradually became clearer in Colin's ears.
...
"Give me a mocha, please."
Inside the café, the disguised Nick Fury gestured to the server and ordered a cup of coffee.
Then he found a seat near the floor-to-ceiling window and casually opened a book, reading it attentively line by line.
Nick Fury's series of actions seemed natural, without a hint of flaw.
As if he were a genuine customer, taking the opportunity to enjoy the afternoon in the café.
"Here's your coffee, sir."
"Thank you."
Nodding in gratitude to the server, Nick Fury continued to flip through the book in his hand while pouring sweetener into the cup.
