บท 13: Ancient "myself" fragments

The cold was a living thing. It wasn't just a passing weather or feeling, but a living force that weighed down my chest, pinching my breath, and slowly devouring me. I opened my eyes to an endless white mist, and all I could discern was the sound of my breath that turned into a small pull in front of my face.

I was completely naked. My skin shrinks under the harshness of the icy wind, and every tip of my limbs groans under the brunt of the frost. The ground under my feet was polished as glass, reflected by my image... But it wasn't me. My face was distorted, my eyes darkened, like I'm looking at a strange being wearing my features.

I raised my gaze. Nothing but absolute whiteness. I didn't know whether this was a real place or a fantasy brought to me by the dragon or the system . But there, in the heart of this deadly void, I saw the door.

A black door, hanging in the middle of nothingness, like an open wound in the body of this white world. He seemed to call me, or rather, challenge me.

[System: Mission Started: Go to the portal.]

The voice was robotic, but it held a mocking tone like I was in a silly game.

"This is not the time for jokes! Do you mean the mission didn't even start !" I shouted, but no one heard me but the wind.

I tried to advance.

The ground was traitorous, slippery like it was designed to bring me down. The wind was fanning me like it wanted to push me away from the target. With every step I felt like I was losing a part of myself. My toes were numb, my feet trembled, and my chest blazed with deadly cold heat.

But I didn't stop.

"If you stop, you'll die." The sound in my head was not the system, but my instincts.

It took eternity to reach the door. Or so it felt. When I stood in front of him, I was completely exhausted. My chest gasps, my knees barely holding me. I raised my trembling hand, touching his cold surface.

The door was more than just a door. It was more like a living barrier watching me. I pushed with all my strength, so an annoying squeak came out, as if the door hadn't been opened for centuries.

Beyond the door was a nightmare.

Absolute darkness. No sky, no land, nothing. In the heart of this void, a black ice ball, floating in the air inexplicably. Its size as the size of my head, but the chill that it emitted was more severe than I had felt all my life.

[System: Break the ball to open the gate.]

The voice was calm, but the words carried a heavy burden with it.

"Break it? With this cold?! Are you kidding me? "

There was no response. Only the ball, with its coldness and stillness, is waiting for me.

I stepped forward with slow steps. Each step was heavier than the previous one, as if the ground was trying to swallow my feet. I extended my hand and touched the ball.

‏Touching it was wrong.

The coldness I felt was deeper than everything I had ever faced in my life. It was not the coldness of the weather, but the coldness that makes your heart stop beating.

I clenched my hand and hit the ball.

The pain was thunderous. My hand bounced as if I hit a rock, shaking my entire body from the force of shock. I felt my finger bones scream.

I hit her again.

and renewed.

and renewed.

Every time, the pain was harsher. The skin in my hands tore and the warm blood that flowed turned into ice fragments immediately after it touched the air. But I didn't stop.

"Is that all you have "

The voice wasn't in my head this time. It was real, deep, as if coming from the depths of darkness.

"Who are you !" I shouted angrily, but the answer didn't come. Just silence.

I yelled then used my head.

My first hit with my head was like I shot a bolt inside my skull. I felt my blood run down my face but I had no choice. I hit her again.

and renewed.

and renewed.

There were small cracks starting to appear on the surface of the ball.

"That's all you need? Take more if!"

I hit her one last time with everything I had.

The ball started to crack.

The sound of the explosion was silent, but it filled me like it was uprooting my soul. I felt an enormous energy explode from the ball, pushing me back and falling me to the ground. I looked at my bloodied hand, then at the ball that started to turn off, little by little.

The ice under my feet cracked, and huge fragments began to air into darkness. The wind was windy, but it didn't affect me. I slowly got up, looking at my bloodied hand. I saw something strange: the blood was freezing before it fell, turning into small fragments, and then disappearing.

The ice under my feet completely collapsed.

As I was falling into nothingness, a memory ghost returned to my mind…

I was in the orphanage, small, I could barely hold myself in front of everyone. One day, I was holding an old glass glass glass but it's beautiful, like it's the only thing in that place that holds value. My feet faltered, and the cup fell from my hand, crashing to the ground into small fragments.

Dad ran, who I was calling Dad, growling as an angry monster. He grabbed me by the arm, his eyes burning anger, his bass shaking the place: "How dare you break something so valuable Do you know how much? we need everything here? "

There was no explanation he could convince, and there was no excuse that would make him relieve the brunt of his punishment. He pushed me hard to the ground, then ordered me to collect the fragments with my bare hands, blood oozing from my fingertips as I tried to collect the remainder of the cup.

Days later, I was in the same room, watching silently as he sat back down. He reached out to take another glass, but got away from it, and the cup fell to the ground, shattering in the same way as the cup I broke.

He suddenly got up, his face sullen, and shouted in an angry voice: "Who idiot put the cup here Didn't I tell you to stay away from leaving important things in dangerous places "

Everyone was looking at him silently, no one dared to respond. I couldn't help but stare at him, at that hideous contradiction I wasn't absorbing at the time. Why was my punishment when I made a mistake, but his mistake turned into a blame for everyone

And now, at this moment, as I face the truth of this world, I realized something terrifying.

"It's always been the case. The strong makes mistakes, but is not held accountable. The weak are crushed under the burden of responsibility, even if it is not his responsibility."

That incident wasn't just a painful childhood memory. It was a lesson. An early lesson about the rules of this world. About that power is not in justice, but in the ability to impose the truth that suits you.

I felt nauseous, not only from her memory, but from my realization that I had been learning this lesson all my life. The ritual, the palace, the truth facing me now... Everything was leading me to the same result: for you to rise, you have to become like my father that day. To make your sins a burden to others, and to justify your actions by force alone.

But I knew I wasn't that kid anymore. Now, I will make my own strength, even if I have to smash everything in front of me.Without collecting the remaining fragments.
