บท 6: Chapter 6: Weapons

Major Amy Stiller watched through the camera feeds attached to the boarding party.

She'd been surprised at the gentlemanly nature of Daniel Venata.

As the Commander of a System Defense Platform, she regularly dealt with all sorts of dirty mining captains, rude merchant captains, and high-and-mighty nobles from the Illion Empire.

It was nice change in pace to meet a gentleman, even if he was a bounty hunter.

"Major."

Stiller turned from the view screen to look at her civilian assistant.

"Yes, Mary?"

"I have the report on the Venator."

"Send it my console."

"Yes, ma'am."

A ding drew her attention back to the view screen in front of her.

A brief report of the Venator and her Commander appeared on the screen.

**

[Venator]

- Commander: Daniel Venata

- Ship Classification: Njord-Class Corvette

- Registered to the Intergalactic Trade Association

- Bounty Hunter's License: Valid

**

It was illegal to deep scan private vessels without the Commander recorded consent, so no specific modules were added to the report.

She's never heard of a Njord-Class Corvette before, but from the sleek look of the Venator, she guessed it was a new, high-end ship the core worlds of the Federation or the Empire was producing.

She was curious what a nice ship like that was doing out here, but she'd seen weirder things.

----

Daniel watched the boarding party through the various security cameras in the Cargo Bay.

They moved with practiced ease unlike many fringe system Defense Forces.

They walked between the neatly stacked pallets holding boxes of Components and ore.

Daniel had asked the system how the Cargo Bay had been organized, and it had described a veritable army of robotic arms and conveyors that had emptied the Freyr Drone upon each return trip, transporting the resources to the Cargo Bay, which was on the opposite side of the Drone Bay on the port side.

Once the resources reached the Cargo Bay, another army of robotic arms placed them in fabricated boxes and placed those on fabricated pallets.

The fabricator, which came with the System, used environmental resources like dust and debris to fabricate any thing the ship needed.

Daniel manually opened the Cargo Bay doors once the Boarding Party signaled they were done, and the Assault Shuttle passed back out through the doors and made its way back to the Defense Platform.

[Ding]

A comms request from the Defense Platform appeared on his HUD, and he accepted its, making sure his 3D self was in place.

"Commander Venata, you are free to go. Please follow all Federation Laws when in the Narle System."

"Thank you, Major. You've been a most excellent host."

Major Stiller smiled slightly, before cutting the connection.

Daniel angled the Venator away from the Defense Platform, aiming it at the Narle Trade Station.

He lit of the Sauveterre Engine, and moment later he was accelerating away from the Defense Platform.

Being able to see from a 3rd person view had its perks, as Daniel kept an eye on his peripherals as he piloted the Venator into Docking Orbit around the Trade Station.

The Trade station was a small orb surrounded by three rings. Each ring was in a different position, and all three had docking bays.

The 1st Ring, closest to the Trade Station Control Spree, was meant for material trade.

The 2nd Ring was a way station for crews of the ships, providing supplies and entertainment.

The 3rd was restricted to Federation Navy Ship and System Defense Ships.

His docking request was accepted, and he angled his ship, maneuvering it onto a protruding docking platform.

Magnetic claws folded out from the platform, grabbing on to the Venator, then pulling her into its embrace.

Once she was settled, Daniel deactivated the Sauveterre Engine, before requesting the System to open the TradeNet.

The TradeNet was a communications system designed to facilitate the sale of goods on the 1st Ring.

Commander's could place their item on the market, setting a price for it, then they could wait before a notification sent to them connected with any interested party.

Daniel entered his Ships Name and Berth Number, logging himself into the TradeNet.

He put up all of his ores at market price, before exiting and selecting the sellers tab.

Daniel was impressed that he could do so much as essentially an A.I.

He knew the system was doing most of it, but he still felt proud of himself.

He maneuvered to the Weapon Systems Tab, perusing the selection as it appeared on screen.

"System, are there any specific weapons I need to install a Weapons System, or can I select any of them."

Suddenly, a blue highlight was overlayed on the screen, selecting three weapon systems.

**

[Mk l Mercy Rail Gun Turret]

- Price: 25,000 Galactic Credits

- Small Kinetic Weapon System

- Range: 10 Km

- Ammunition: Any Small Kinetic Ammunition

[Mk l Forkan Missile Launcher]

- Price: 50,000 Galactic Credits

- Small Guided Missile Weapon System

- Range: 50 Km

- Ammunition: Any Small Missiles

[Mk l Rellker Laser Turret]

- Price: 20,000 Galactic Credits

- Small Energy Weapon System

- Range: 1000 m

- Ammunition: Any Small Energy Cells

**

[Commander, please obtain all selected Weapon Systems. They are the cheapest options that will provide the necessary Components.]

Daniel did the math.

The total would be 95,000 Galactic Credits.

Just selling 1 Kg of the Cillium would net him 100,000 Galactic Credits, so he was no longer worried about purchasing any of the weapon systems.

He marked them down in his memory, before moving onto Armor Paneling.

He selected the tab, and automatically the System highlighted the suggested panel.

**

[Vortex Armor Panel]

- Price: 200 Galactic Credits/100 m^2

- Valkium-Nellum Alloy

**

"How many panels do I need to purchase?"

[Commander, it's suggested that you obtain 200 m^2 of the Vortex Armor Panel.]

Daniel did some more math.

The Venator was about 500 m in length, 200 m at the stern, 100 m at the bow, and 50 m tall at the stern, 25 m tall at the bow.

Daniel sighed mentally at how much paneling the Venator held, then winced when he thought how much he'd have to spend when he go to BattleCruiser size.

[Ding]

[Commander Vahn has purchased 3x Kg of Cillium and 1x Kg of Valkium.]

Daniel looked at the notification.

He'd sold 60% of his Cillium and the Kg of Valkium, netting him 550,000 Galactic Credits.

He mentally subtracted the Weapons and Armor Costs, leaving himself with a 454,600 Galactic Credits profit.

He quickly agreed to the payment, grinning to himself as the Credits appeared in his Bank Account.

He was still using his old Corvo Galactic Bank, since he technically wasn't dead.

Sooner or later, someone would miss the Sheffield and look for her, so it was prudent he hunt dow the INS Tilan before his comms got blown up by his customers and crew's families.

After the Dock Drones unloaded the sold resources, he purchased the Weapon Systems and the Armor Panels and instructed the System to begin the upgrades.
