Michael stood silently outside the door, his expression unreadable, waiting for the inevitable moment.
"Who is it?" Sara's melodious voice echoed from within the apartment.
"It's me," Michael replied, his tone deliberately neutral.
"A sec," Sara said, the sound of multiple locks clicking and sliding filling the brief silence. The door swung open, revealing Michael standing there, a large bag of groceries in his hands.
Michael froze for a moment, his gaze drawn to Sara. She was a vision of beauty, her figure accentuated by a tight red dress that showcased her curves and ample bosom. Two years younger than him, she possessed a captivating allure that had always held a certain fascination for him. He had to admit, he was a little perverted when it came to women with large breasts.
"Sara? What are you doing here?" Michael asked, feigning surprise.
"Well... I just wanted to check up on you and your sister," Sara said, her smile carefully crafted.
'Wow, how could I have been so stupid and blind? Look at that smile on her face. I didn't notice it then, but now I do,' Michael thought, his gaze sharpening.
'Why is this fool staring at me?' Sara wondered inwardly, her smile faltering slightly. "Aren't you coming inside?"
"Oh, yeah," Michael muttered, stepping into the apartment. He saw Mira sitting on their worn-out couch and a genuine smile spread across his face.
"How is my treasure doing?" he asked, his voice warm.
"Missing you," Mira said, jumping up and hugging him tightly. Michael returned the embrace, his affection for his sister evident.
'Pathetic,' Sara thought, her eyes narrowing. "What is in the bag?" she asked, her voice laced with curiosity.
"Oh, it's just some food stuffs I brought," Michael replied, then turned to Sara. "Why are you here, Sara?"
'Isn't he happy I'm here? He would always be on the moon, laughing and telling those useless jokes whenever I'm around. Is something wrong, or did I wear the wrong clothes today?' Sara wondered, her eyes darting to her dress. She knew Michael had a weakness for women with large breasts, and she had deliberately chosen an outfit that emphasized her assets.
Michael saw her momentary confusion and decided to cut to the chase. "I'm planning to enter the AI Virtual Reality game tomorrow," he announced.
"What?!" Mira and Sara exclaimed in unison, their reactions a stark contrast. Mira stared at her brother with worry, while Sara's eyes widened in surprise.
'Did he just…? I didn't even need to convince him anymore?' Sara thought, her mind racing. Her plan had been to persuade Michael to join her in the game, hoping they could team up and survive, perhaps even win.
The AI Virtual Reality game was not an ordinary game. It was a high-stakes, life-or-death experience where players were immersed in a virtual world. Death in the game meant death in reality. The rewards, however, were immense: vast amounts of lifetimes, the city's currency, and the chance to become a legend. Top-ranking gamers and guilds possessed lifetimes that could sustain them and their families for generations.
The risks were high, but the potential rewards were too tempting to resist. 'Anyone can die anytime, either today, tomorrow, or three months from now, so what is there to be scared about?' Sara thought, her resolve hardening.
"What did you say?" she asked, needing confirmation.
"I said I'm going to join the AI Virtual Reality game," Michael repeated.
"But you don't have an account yet?" she asked, her brow furrowed.
"True," Michael said, raising his green bracelet. "AI, open a gaming account for me."
The bracelet emitted a soft glow, and the AI's voice echoed through the apartment. <Are you sure, Michael Brian?>
"Yes," Michael replied.
<Initiating...>
<Welcome, new survivor. Please state your name.>
Michael remembered the name he had used in his previous life, a name chosen by Sara herself. "Micro," he said.
"I have a name for you," Sara interjected quickly.
"Sorry, but my sister will pick a name for me," Michael said, turning to Mira. "Mira, what name do you want me to use?"
'What? Did he just refuse me? Is this still the Michael who always tried to lick my shoes?' Sara thought, her frustration growing.
"Me?" Mira asked, surprised. She looked at her brother, her eyes filled with affection. "Well... You are more precious than lifetimes to me, and you are both my family and god. So I will call you Supreme. Because you will always be Supreme and above everyone else."
'Touchy,' Sara thought, rolling her eyes, a gesture that didn't escape Michael's notice.
"Supreme, I like that. Okay, AI, my name is Supreme," Michael said.
<Checking name...>
<Name set.>
<Welcome, Player Supreme.>
<Do you want to play your first game?>
<Yes/No/Maybe later.>
"Later," Michael replied.
<You have been signed into the virtual reality game. You can come online anytime to claim your newbie rewards.>
<Note: Rewards expire after seven days.>
<For first-time joining, you have been rewarded with one day of lifetimes.>
<Your personal lobby has been set.>
<You can come online when ready.>
Notifications echoed from the bracelet. Michael looked at the stunned Sara. "Are you coming with me?" he asked, his smile enigmatic.
"Yes," Sara replied quickly, then asked, her voice laced with a sweet smile, "What are you going to prepare for us?"
"What do you mean?" Michael asked, feigning confusion.
"The food stuffs you bought, aren't you going to prepare it?" Sara asked, pointing to the bag.
"I am sorry, Sara, it's getting late. I think it's time for you to leave," Michael said, his tone firm.
"What?" Sara asked, her eyes widening.
'What has gotten into him?' she wondered.
"Yes, Miss Sara, it's already seven in the evening. The road won't be safe anymore if it gets to eight," Mira added, her voice polite but firm.
'These two brats!' Sara fumed inwardly, maintaining her smile. "You are right, Mira. I will get going," she said, walking to the couch, picking up her handbag, and turning to leave.
"By ten in the morning, I'm entering the game. If you really want to join and gain lifetimes, you can first open your own account and come with me," Michael said, his voice laced with a hint of challenge.
"Thanks!" Sara hissed, slamming the door behind her as she left.
"Why is she mad?" Mira asked, confused.
"It's just how she is. Now come on. Let me prepare something delicious for you," Michael said, leading his sister into the small kitchen.
