บท 10: Chapter 10-Resentment VII

Zhang Tongtong leaned against a wall, staring into space. Besides talking to Lu Xiyun when he woke up, she didn't say a word afterward. Although she still clung to a glimmer of hope that someone would find them, one's mental state would inevitably deteriorate over time.

In reality, the treatment wasn't terrible. They received two meals a day and could go to the bathroom. However, being locked up in a room was an experience no one would willingly endure.

Lu Xiyun, on the other hand, remained curled up with his head down. He couldn't comprehend why these people had captured him, especially because he possessed nothing of value.

He reflected on everything that had transpired in the past few months. To others, there may not have been anything particularly special about it, but for Lu Xiyun, it taught him how serene life could be. People don't yearn for something unknown, in fact, they might be afraid of it. However, once they discover that this unknown is actually good, a desire to obtain it inevitably arises.

Lu Xiyun lifted his head and surveyed the room once more. The room was empty with no furniture or wall decorations. The floor was dirty, scattered with black dust, wood chips, and metal scraps. He believed he could unlock the chains on his wrists and ankles using the thin metal scraps on the floor, a much simpler task than what he was used to. However, the main issue remained the door, which could only be opened from the outside.

Right at this moment, the door was opened. Two masked men approached him. He tightened his hold on his clothes. They pulled him up by grabbing his arms, and he tried to shake them off, but it was no use. With one person on each of his sides, they forced him to walk. He turned his head toward Zhang Tongtong, whose mouth was moving. She seemed to be saying something to the two men.

Once he exited the room, he found himself in a long, straight hallway. Glancing at a window on one of the many doors, he saw young men and women being chained up like him. All the rooms appeared the same.

They walked up the stairs at the end of the hallway. After a few turns, he was forced into a room. Unlike the previous room, this one had nothing except white walls and a brightly lit light on the ceiling.

Lu Xiyun stood in the middle, his hands clenched tightly on his pants, an expressionless mask hiding the fear within.

He didn't know how long he was in this room until the same people walked in again. One of the men spoke to him and then held a cup of liquid in front of him.

Immediately, he understood they wanted him to drink it, but he remained still. The men, seeing his resistance, grabbed his jaw to force it open. Despite Lu Xiyun's struggle, he couldn't break free, and eventually, he opened his mouth, biting the man's hand. After the hand let go, he took a deep breath and observed the men who were preparing to force his jaw open again. Knowing they wouldn't let him go until he drank it, he slowly reached out his hand towards them. Seeing his cooperation, they handed him the cup.

Lu Xiyun held it with both hands, stared at the clear liquid for a while, and glanced at the man who was speaking. Slowly, he brought it toward his mouth. There was a slight pause when it was 2cm from his lips before he drank the entire thing. It was tasteless like water.

They then led him to another room. This time, it resembled a simplified bedroom – a single bed with neatly folded clothes, a lamp on a small cabinet, a few books, and water and food arranged on a round table. The men unlocked the chains, which had left faint red marks on his skin, said something, and exited the room. Lu Xiyun sat on the bed for a moment before examining the contents of the room. He noticed there was even a bathroom equipped with a shower and other essentials.

Curling up in the corner of the bed, he was lost in thought, eyes unfocused. Once he realized he had to drink the unknown liquid no matter what, he simply complied. His strength was no match for the two men, and attempting to spill it would likely result in them bringing another cup.

As he thought about what to do, he ended up falling asleep without realizing it. When he woke up, he figured a few hours had passed, though it was hard to tell in the room without windows.

Concentrating on his body, he detected no noticeable changes. Before drinking the liquid from yesterday, he had sensed a faint scent—so subtle that most people would perceive it as odorless.

Shortly after, someone dropped off his meal on the table. After finishing his food, he remained seated, his gaze fixed on the door.

---

When someone entered with a cup, expecting to find Lu Xiyun on the bed or in the chair, they discovered the teenager was not there. Assuming he might be in the bathroom, the door was opened, only to find it empty. They checked the room again, but there was nowhere for the teenager to hide.

The teenager had truly vanished!
