~ CASIMIR ~
I beat Rake to the truck and had to stifle a petty kind of triumph in that ridiculous moment. I was already dressed in some of the extra clothes when I felt him draw near.
Then the bushes to my right parted and a silver-white wolf, head high and eyes dark, crept into the space around the shed.
That rush of jealousy and fear- had he betrayed me?- washed over me again. But…
Be what you wish others would be to you.
I made myself swallow it back and wait. I tossed a set of clothes on the ground in front of him, and waited while he shifted and dressed.
He wouldn't meet my eyes.
Then, when he was dressed again, he turned to face me and folded his arms, staring at me with such an expression of disgust, my belly quivered.
I made myself raise my chin and meet his eyes. But I didn't speak.
I didn't know what to say.
So, of course, Rake took that step for us.
