Seeing the betting pool set up for his duel with Rex, Gin originally wanted to make a quick buck. Unfortunately, he was too broke to place a bet, so he missed the opportunity.
"Ah———!"
"Take this, Sword Technique: Lightning Slash!"
Rex knew very well that from their previous encounter with Gin, his chances of winning a one-on-one duel were slim.
If he waited for Gin to attack first, he might not even have a chance to counterattack and would lose the duel swiftly.
So, Rex's plan was clear: even if he lost, he had to lose spectacularly and avoid looking too bad in front of everyone.
"No way, is Rex seriously using that sword technique against a rookie? Is he trying to kill the newbie?"
As Gin had learned before, almost everyone in "Gran Bahamar" could use magic. Some skilled adventurers could even combine their combat techniques with magic to create more powerful moves.
Rex's current sword technique was one such move.
Golden light infused his sword with magic, and golden electrical arcs danced along the blade. This technique significantly boosted Rex's speed, and in a blink, he was upon Gin.
Unlike the shocked onlookers, Gin wasn't too alarmed by Rex's technique. He was more curious, as this was his first encounter with magic in this world.
Previously, when Rex and his companions were beaten up by Gin, they hadn't used magic. It wasn't that they didn't want to; Gin's speed and their own carelessness had prevented them from having the chance.
As Rex's lightning-infused slash descended upon him, Gin calmly gripped his crude bone knife, ready to block the attack.
"Boom———!"
Rex's double-handed sword strike collided with Gin's bone knife, unleashing a powerful shockwave. Violent lightning and blinding light erupted, obscuring everyone's view.
"Rex, are you crazy? Gin is just a rookie, and you..."
As the fierce lightning shattered the ground and kicked up dust, Soya angrily shouted at Rex, believing he had gone too far. She had hoped a spar with Rex would help Gin understand his own strength, even if he got hurt. Better that than dying to a monster due to overconfidence.
But Soya hadn't expected Rex to strike so viciously, using a lethal technique in what was supposed to be a friendly spar!
Before Soya could finish her reprimand, the scene before her made her words die in her throat. The sight left her unsure whether to stay angry or not.
Not only Soya, but the other onlookers were also left dumbfounded, some even forgetting to drink their ale.
They had seen Rex use his 'Lightning Slash' against the rookie adventurer Gin, who had no time to dodge and could only defend.
The dust cloud obscured their view, and most assumed the duel was over, the only question being how badly Gin was hurt.
But what had they just seen? The figure that flew out of the dust cloud seemed to be Rex, the one who had used the powerful technique!
At first, they thought they were seeing things. But when another figure, holding a cracked bone knife, emerged from the dust cloud, they realized it was indeed Rex who had been sent flying!
"So this is magic combined with sword techniques. Impressive. It feels similar to my Kido but is a different kind of power.
I wonder if I can use Kido in this world. Maybe I should give it a try now?"
Rex's 'Lightning Slash' felt somewhat like a spiritual pressure strike to Gin, though much weaker. However, the method of using such power intrigued him.
"Arise, O sovereign! Mask of flesh and blood, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south! Hado 31: Shakkaho!"
Emerging from the dust cloud, Gin held his cracked bone knife in one hand and extended the other, chanting a Kido incantation.
With his power system converted to match the local world's system, a red magic circle appeared in front of his hand as he chanted.
Reiatsu transformed into mana, rising from Gin's body, and the resulting wind blew away the surrounding dust.
In the next moment, a massive red fireball, three meters in diameter, emerged from the magic circle and shot towards Rex's previous position at incredible speed.
Gin was stunned. Despite controlling his reiatsu, the Shakkaho's size was absurd. Moreover, the Kido, now converted to magic, couldn't be held back and fired instantly upon completion of the chant.
Watching the massive fireball, which looked like a small sun, burn a path across the guild hall floor, Gin moved quickly.
He had no intention of killing Rex, despite his earlier behavior. He only wanted to teach him a lesson, not end his life.
Having gauged Rex's strength, Gin knew that if Rex took the Shakkaho head-on, he wouldn't survive.
Gin had just registered as an adventurer and wanted to operate under that identity for a while. He didn't want to become a wanted man for accidentally killing someone.
Gin's feet tapped the ground, and his figure vanished from sight under the effect of Shunpo.
The onlookers were bewildered to find Gin already in front of the massive fireball he had just launched.
