“What are your plans? You have to know the Republic doesn’t negotiate for hostages.”

“Oh, they do.” Genthry waved a hand. “Under the right circumstances, and for the right hostages. Fortunately for you, I’m not interested in being that kind of activist. I don’t think it does much for our liberation and spending time with politicians is unpleasant.” He grimaced and rubbed at the back of his neck. “I’m not planning to hang on to you any longer than I have to. Eventually I’ll have to exchange this thing for something a little more solid. I’m going to drop you off on another planet, someplace a little more neutral, and you can go right back to hunting down escaped slaves and sending them back to hell.”

“I hunt criminals and bring them to justice. I’m not a slave catcher. That’s not a job I would take.” Riatt struggled against his bonds. “Turn this thing around, turn yourself in, and the authorities might go easy on you.”
