Mariam really didn't know what had gotten into Samuel's head this night and even if she did know, she would not still understand what had gotten into him.
'Was it because of the talk with Lucas or what...?' She asked herself.
"Samuel, w...what is wrong with you?" Mariam couldn't help herself from asking.
Without turning to looks t Mariam, he answered;
"You...!" His reply was brief.
"You are what's wrong with me...!" He added.
Mariam was stunned.
She frowned.
'What does he mean by that...?!' Mariam thought.
"W...what do you mean by...! " Before she could complete her question, Samuel pulled her by her hand into the room.
Once she was pulled into the room, she frowned.
She didn't like the way she was being pulled. But she placed it aside as she looked at who brought her here.
Andrew...
Andrew was fast asleep on his bed, unaware of the two (2) uninvited guest he had in his room right now.
Letting go of Mariam's hand, Mariam walked towards the bed and stopped when she was by the bed post.
But she continued staring at Andrew.
"Is he aware of the journey he is about to embark on, Samuel?" Mariam unconsciously asked.
Samuel that had been watching her move from his side to the bed post now answered her question.
"No..." He replied.
"Then why did he call me that time...?" She asked as she tilted her head backwards, though still looking at Andrew who laid on the bed, fast asleep.
"That time in the dinning room....why did he ask me what you told me?" She kept on asking as she turned to look at Samuel.
Samuel shrugged.
"I don't know..." He said, buy Mariam was not going to buy it, and Samuel knew it.
Before Mariam could ask another question, Samuel beat her to it.
"As we were coming into the dinning room, he called me and asked what Father had ordered me to do..."
"And what did you tell him?" Mariam cut Samuel to ask.
Samuel paused, he hated when he had to wait or when he was being cut short.
The at he sucked in air told Mariam where she had erred.
Realizing it, she didn't utter another word but just kept quiet.
Saying one more word would have Samuel flare up, so she just kept quiet, let him be and leave him to continue talking.
Samuel on the other hand hated it when he was being cut short and was made impatiently to wait for someone else to finish.
Mariam of all people should have known that by now.
If it were someone else, he would have blown up. But this was Mariam. He had to control himself.
Sucking in air with his eyes closed, he let it out through his mouth.
Opening his eyes, he looked at Mariam and said;
"I didn't tell him anything...!" Samuel said.
Mariam let out a sigh of relief.
Samuel looked at Mariam.
"What was that sigh for?" He asked.
Mariam opened her eyes and looked at Samuel.
"What?" She asked.
"I asked what that sigh was for, or didn't you hear me?" He asked irritably.
Mariam was silent as she stared at him.
As she was very close to the bed, she sat down on the
bed.
"Why are you staring at me like that...or have you suddenly gone deaf Mariam?" Samuel asked.
Mariam looked at him again for a second before lowering her head down and letting out a sigh.
Lifting up her head to look at Samuel, she asked;
"Samuel, what has suddenly gotten into your head?"
Samuel just stared at her.
"Why are you acting like this right now...?" She added.
"Like I said..." Samuel started.
"It's you that is wrong with me...!" He said as he shrugged non-chalantly.
Mariam continued looking at Samuel before letting out a sigh.
"You know, if you want to court a lady, this is not how you do it...!" She said as she smiled a little.
Seeing her smile, Samuel smiled broadly.
Raising an eyebrow, Samuel asked;
"Who said I'm courting you or anybody...?"
Mariam's smile broadened.
"So you're not courting or even trying to court any fair maiden within or without this castle?" Mariam asked.
Samuel's smile that showed his sparkling teeth, now closed, though he still smiled.
"Not even me...?" Mariam asked.
Her voice sounding expectant.
Samuel looked at her closely as he started to walk slowly to where she sat.
Bending to reach her height as she sat on the bed, his face was close, realty close to Mariam's face, causing her heart race.
"Do you...?" He asked.
His stare at her was so intense that it caused her body to turn hot.
But as the elegant lady that she was, she had to maintain her posture.
Frowning and also wearing a fake angry expression in order to keep Samuel in his place but at the same time, wanting him to continue talking, she asked;
"Do I what?"
His eyes looked into hers as if looking into her soul, ready to suck her dry.
Her skin began to get hot, so hot that Samuel must have felt the heat emit from her body. Because he said;
"Do you want me to court you?" He finally asked.
His question seemed to have had Mariam in a trance. Because she looked into his eyes, but her thoughts were elsewhere and she couldn't hear what Samuel was saying even though she stared at him.
Samuel knew what was happening, but he just let her be.
The question;
'Do you want me to court you?' Kept resounding in her ear.
She kept on seeing things.
She?
Samuel wanted to court her?
This was like a dream come true....!
She unconsciously smiled.
Wait...!
Mariam then frowned.
Was she crazy...?
Samuel wanted to court her?
Why?
Or was he joking...?"
But she had known him for more than ten (10) years, and she had known him to be a person to keep to his words.
She smiled again.
But wait...!
She frowned again.
But this time, it was a sad frown.
What if he just said it but was actually joking with her?
'Please, Lord, let him not be like all those guys whom would catch a woman's heart, but then later destroy it as they would later run away....Please, Please Please....!'
She cried out in her heart to God.
As she said that prayer, she then smiled again, relieved.
But then then same voice gave added another response that made her break out of her trance...
Samuel chuckled.
"I was just joking with you...!"
