บท 1: Volunteer
--Three years ago--
The Kingdom of Appel has been at war for years now, but that was all about to change.
"The King is dead," the herald announced to the people gathered at the capitol. "He died bravely alongside the Crown Prince. But now, in the Kingdom's time of need, the Second Prince Ryuu, has been crowned." the crowd of people started to mumble and protest. Almost no one knew anything about the second prince, he was too young to be the crown prince, but was too old to be married off. " the new King Requests that all able-bodied men come to fight, to end this war once and for all."
Men started stepping forward, bravely volunteering to fight for their families and homes. Yuta turned to Kara, his younger sister. When she saw his expression, she knew what he meant, he was going to go and fight. Tears started to roll down Kara's checks, and she let him take her into his warm arms, his long red hair tickling her neck. "I will be back, I promise you that," Yuuta whispered into her ear.
"What will I do without you here?" Kara whispered back.
"Keep doing your herbs, make a profit off of them."
"They say I am too young! No one wants my herbs! They only take them from you, you are older, people trust that you, and won't steal from you. You are strong, I am not strong enough, yet." Kara stubbornly said.
Yuuta sighed and took the plane brown ribbon from his hair, letting his beautiful long hair (1) fall down, the ends resting on the ground. "Take this." Yuuta took the ribbon and wrapped it around her wrist. "If you ever need any help go to the palace, ask for Milo, and ask for his help. This ribbon will be proof that you know me."
Kara smiled weakly and, likewise, removed the tan ribbon from her long dark brown hair, letting her hair fall deeper into the small puddle it had already been lightly brushing in. (1) "Though this ribbon of mine will serve no purpose to you, I wish that you will keep it as a reminder that I will always support you."
"If you ever find yourself in any trouble go to the palace and tell them this - I am Kara Shiota, My arms are strong and so are my brothers." Yuuta said in a low whisper, "This is a code, Prince Kanto (2) will let you in himself if you say this to a guard named Milo, just ask for him, and the prince will provide shelter and protection for you, while I'm gone."
Yuuta pulled away from her and put his hands on her shoulders, "Be brave. Be brave enough for both of us." he said.
"You already got us covered." Kara said, "You be strong, I'm counting on you to come back." She kissed him on the cheek, and he kissed her on the forehead. He hugged her one last time and turned around, hiding his silent tears from his sister. Then he raised his hand and volunteered.

(1) They both have, lest go with, "magical" hair. It always is to their heels, and whenever they cut it, it grows back by the end of the day. This may seem weird now but it is important later on.
(2) prince Ryuu is the second prince, soon to be crowned, his hair is like Yuta's and Kara's

When I originally was writing this, Kara's name was 'Arie' so, sorry if I forgot to change any of the 'Arie' to 'Kara'. And Ryuu was 'Kanto' I'm also working on that ...
