บท 22: Mourning

Bali sat on the edge of the bed, his eyes fixed on the still form of Little Witch. It had been a week since they arrived at the abandoned temple, and the girl had yet to wake up. Bali had spent every moment by her side, watching her chest rise and fall with each breath.

Bali felt a sense of guilt wash over him. He had failed to protect her from the soldiers and now she was paying the price. He had also failed to understand her true character. He had seen her as a heartless witch, but now he knew that she was a person who would do anything to protect those she cared for.

As he sat there lost in thought, he felt a faint movement on the bed. Little Witch's hand had twitched. Bali jumped up and leaned over her, his heart racing. He watched as her eyes slowly opened, revealing a pair of bright green eyes.

"Little Witch! You're awake!" he exclaimed.

The girl blinked a few times, then focused on Bali. "Bali? What happened?" she asked weakly.

"You were poisoned, but you're going to be okay," he replied, relief flooding through him.

Little Witch tried to sit up, but her body was too weak. Bali helped her into a sitting position and gave her a cup of water. She drank it slowly, then leaned back against the pillows.

"I'm sorry," she said quietly.

"For what?" Bali asked, confused.

"For getting you involved in all this. I never wanted to put you in danger," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

Bali shook his head. "Don't be sorry. I chose to help you, and I would do it again."

Little Witch looked at him, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Bali."

The two of them sat in silence for a few minutes, then Little Witch spoke up again. "What happened to Garur?"

Bali hesitated, not wanting to upset her. "He...he didn't make it. He was killed by General diar"

Little Witch closed her eyes, a single tear rolling down her cheek. "I'm sorry, Garur. You deserved better than this."

Bali put a comforting arm around her shoulders, and the two of them sat there in silence, mourning the loss of their friend. But even in the midst of their sorrow, Bali felt a growing sense of admiration for Little Witch. She had been through so much, and yet she remained strong and brave.

As he looked at her, Bali knew that he wanted to protect her, to be there for her, no matter what. He didn't know what the future held, but he knew that he wanted to be a part of her life, no matter what challenges lay ahead.

"Thank you for taking care of me," she said softly. "I don't know what I would have done without you."

Bali smiled at her and said, "I couldn't just leave you there to die. I had to do something."

Little witch looked at him for a moment, and then looked away. "I'm sorry for the way I treated you before," she said. "I was angry and I took it out on you. I shouldn't have done that."

Bali nodded and said, "It's okay. I understand."

They sat in silence for a few moments, just looking at each other. Then little witch spoke up again. "Why did you risk your life for me?" she asked. "You didn't even know me. Also previously I had treated you badly "

Bali thought about it for a moment, and then said, "I don't know. I just couldn't stand by and watch you get hurt. I had to do something."

Little witch looked at him for a moment longer, and then smiled. "Thank you," she said. "Thank you for saving me."

Bali smiled back at her and said, "You're welcome."

For the next few days, Bali and little witch stayed in the cave, tending to each other's wounds and getting to know each other better. They talked about their lives, their hopes and dreams, and what they wanted for the future.

As the days passed, Bali realized that he had fallen deeply in love with little witch.

One day, as they were sitting together in the cave, little witch turned to Bali and said, "I know this might sound crazy, but I think I'm falling in love with you."

Bali looked at her in surprise, and then smiled. "I think I'm already in love with you," he said.

And with that, they leaned in and kissed each other, sealing their love for each other.

But then she remembered who she was - a witch who had been shunned by society, a girl who had never known true kindness. She pushed Bali away and stood up, brushing the dirt off her clothes.

"We need to keep moving," she said coldly. "We can't stay in one place for too long."

Bali nodded, but he couldn't help feeling hurt by her words. He had risked his life to save her, and yet she still treated him like an inconvenience. He wanted to ask her why she was so cold and distant, but he knew better than to provoke her.

The two of them continued on their journey, moving through the forest with a sense of purpose. Little Witch seemed to be in a hurry, and Bali struggled to keep up with her pace.

As they walked, they came across a small village that was being terrorized by a group of bandits. The villagers were cowering in fear, and the bandits were looting everything in sight.

Little Witch watched from a distance, her eyes cold and calculating. Bali could see the wheels turning in her head, and he knew that she was planning something.

Without warning, Little Witch leaped into action. She moved with a grace and agility that Bali had never seen before, taking out the bandits one by one with her whip and her magic.

Bali watched in awe as Little Witch fought, her face twisted in anger and determination. He had never seen her like this before, and he couldn't help feeling a sense of pride in her.

In the end, Little Witch emerged victorious. The bandits were defeated, and the villagers cheered her on as a hero. But Little Witch didn't stay to bask in their adoration. She simply turned and walked away, leaving Bali behind.

As Bali watched her go, he knew that he was falling in love with her. He didn't know why or how, but he couldn't deny the way he felt.
