บท 16: Chapter 15: The final wave.

Rigel drove Anselm's car and went to Anselm's house which was a few hours' drive from Berlin. There were no monsters all the way to Anselm's house because Rigel had taken care of the monsters and the army could create a safe parameter in big cities.

"That's my house," Anselm pointed at the big house. "You can park there," he pointed at the garage.

Rigel went into Anselm's house and saw Anselm's collections of medieval armor and weapons. They were all in great condition since Anselm took care of them while at the same time learning how they were made. The house was big and most of the spaces were for his collections.

"What kind of sword do you want?" Anselm asked as he guided Rigel to his workspace.

"Anything that's durable and sharp that can cut through anything," Rigel answered and looked at Elise who had been oddly quiet and walked beside Anselm. "I might need more than just one," he added.

"That's quite hard for swords that are too long. It could bend easily, so I think I can make you a short sword, maybe something like a Gladius," Anselm responded as he looked at the materials he had in his workspace. "Since you seem to be in a hurry, I can make you 3 swords in a month," he pointed out.

For someone to be able to make 3 swords in a month was already amazing. Rigel had no reason to ask for more because the swords were made by Anselm, the best bladesmith in Europe.

"That's perfect. I don't mind if the swords going to be heavy. I want them to be sturdy and hard to break," Rigel responded.

Rigel couldn't go out to hunt monsters because he had to protect Anselm from why he was working. He lived there with Anselm and Elise, for 3 weeks, and he didn't encounter any monsters.

"Rigel, are you up?" Elise asked behind the door. "Grandpa wants to see you," she added.

Rigel went to Anselm's workspace, and he saw three swords, not too short like a Gladius, and they were thick. He looked at the swords and wondered if they could withstand the monsters on the final wave.

"Go ahead, try them," Anselm was excited to see Rigel hold the swords that he made. "I could put more effort to make them look more artistic, but I can tell you don't care about that kind of thing," he added.

Rigel grabbed the sword in the middle and lifted it to look at how pointy the sword was. He could feel the heaviness of the sword compared to the knife he used for the past 3 months. He swung it around and got used to its weight immediately, making Anselm amazed.

"That sword is at least 7 kilograms. Seeing you swing it that easily, you must have a tremendous amount of strength," Anselm said and looked at Rigel's muscular and veiny arms. "The way you hold it is also perfect. I wonder where you learned swordsmanship?"

Rigel didn't answer Anselm's question and grabbed the remaining swords. He put 2 of the swords on his back and 1 on the back of his waist. He then grabbed something in his jeans pocket, it was a piece of paper and then he gave it to Anselm.

Anselm looked at the paper and read it. It was a location and a name written on the bottom. The name that Rigel wrote was Hugo's name.

"Go there, and stay away from Berlin. You will be safe there," Rigel explained as he looked at the paper in Anselm's hand. "Do it for Elise since you only have each other. There will be people like me who will need your skill, Anselm. People will rely on you for their survival," he continued.

"What about you?" Anselm looked at Rigel with his eyebrows furrowed.

"I'm going back to Berlin. There's still unfinished business there," Rigel answered. "Thank you for the swords, and for letting me stay here. But I can't stay here anymore."

Anselm heavy-heartedly nodded with understanding and let Rigel leave. Although Elise barely spoke to Rigel, she was fond of him and used to his presence around her. She was sad that Rigel had to leave, but she understood and watched Rigel leave.

Rigel came back and the ghouls appeared more often than before. He forgot to clear them since those ghouls came from the sewers, hiding themselves. He decided to go down the manhole and check how many ghouls were hiding in there.

With only a flashlight, Rigel explored the sewer and he didn't have a bit of fear within him. He had been in a worse situation in his past life, and ghouls weren't that hard to deal with in the first place. When he turned into a corner, that was when he saw dozens of ghouls eating rats.

"I have 6 days left. I need to kill as many monsters as I can. I hope you guys can fill her stomach," Rigel pulled the sword and swung it around.

5 days had passed, and Rigel was standing on top of the highest building in Berlin. He looked at the moon and the stars that lightened the city. It was in a matter of seconds before the final wave came, and he was a bit anxious about it.

When Rigel was enjoying the moment, the chill wind that was hitting his face from the front suddenly stopped. The chill wind suddenly changed its direction and now it hit his nape and toward his cheeks. The wind became fierce as if it was being sucked by something.

"It's coming..." Rigel muttered and his heart was racing as the dark clouds and storms brewed. He immediately walked down the building as fast as he could.

Bolts of lightning struck and made loud crackling sounds, and they were going in the same direction. Not the ground, not the tallest building, but it was hitting something in the middle of the air until it sparked and created a portal.

The portal which was as small as a tennis ball grew bigger and bigger until it could swallow the tallest building. Everyone who was there, couldn't believe what they were seeing. It was terrifying and yet mesmerizing until suddenly heavy rain poured into the whole city.

The sound of sirens echoed throughout the city, alerting everyone to evacuate. Everyone snapped back to reality thanks to that and started running away for their lives.

The atmosphere became so heavy that everyone could barely breathe because of it. Rigel was catching his breath because he had to be there in front of the portal. He slowly pulled his sword and readied his stance as his eyes focused on what was about to come out of the portal.

The first batch of monsters that came out of the portal were orcs. There were hundreds of them and they charged into the city, destroying everything that was in front of them. Not long after that ogres, minotaurs, golems, drakes, wyrms, basilisks, wyverns, and lastly dragons.

Rigel knew a sword wouldn't be enough, and so he grabbed another from his back. He charged at the orcs and swung his swords with everything he got.

The orcs were 2 to 3 meters tall, and yet Rigel cut them in half with a single strike. His formidable strength attracted the other orcs and monsters. He was surrounded and had nowhere to run even though he wasn't planning to run away.

Rigel fought relentlessly and killed everything that was in front of him without exception. He was thrilled by how reliable the swords were and how they could cut the orcs' bodies out easily. He then fought the ogres, minotaurs, and golems without a problem.

"More... I need more..." Rigel wiped the blood from his face with the back of his hand as he stood on top of a big pile of corpses.

A gigantic orc came out of the portal with a necklace made of skulls, and sharp teeth as his bracelets. The orc held two massive axes and when it roared, all the orcs moved away from the pile of corpses.

The gigantic orc glared at Rigel and threw one of his axes at him. Rigel jumped down from the pile before the axe smashed the corpses. He realized he was no match for that orc as he made his way out by killing the monsters. But, he noticed something was coming down toward him, and when he turned around and looked up, he saw the gigantic orc was above him.

Rigel rolled over and barely dodged it, and when he tried to stand up, he collapsed. He looked back at his left foot and it was broken. He didn't know what happened to his foot, but the gigantic orc stared at him and it looked like the orc was mocking him.

Rigel didn't expect the difference in power between him and the orc was that big. He slowly stood up and the gigantic orc was already standing in front of him with the axes coming down toward him.

"We will meet again," Rigel closed his eyes and got his body destroyed by the orc's attack, killing him instantly.
