บท 33: The Flower Market

We continued down the tunnels and into other chambers that held even more art and evidence of activity. Several times we passed others moving through the corridors. As they approached us, I could see them hesitate as they watched us closely. Each time Pierre raised his hand and made some kind of motion that I could never see clearly because he was ahead of me and the shadows blended around us. When he signaled, the other parties would nod and give back hand signals that again were hidden by the shadows. I deduced they were secret signs letting them know that we were not the cops or any other undesirables down in the mysterious catacombs.

For the next several hours we roamed underneath Paris. I was amazed at the sight and how much there was to the underground maze. And a maze it was. From what Pierre had told me, the tunnels were extensive and so many were still not discovered. It stretched all under Paris and beyond to their knowledge.
