'Is this how my life is going to end" Li Meiying pondered despairingly as she found herself relentlessly sinking into the depths of the sea. Desperation consumed her as she gazed upwards, hope flickering faintly within her as she caught sight of the glimmer of light from the yacht shimmering upon the water's surface.
The unsettling truth settled heavily upon Meiying's shoulders; the malicious individual who had forcefully propelled her from the safety of the yacht carried nefarious intentions of her demise. Plagued by the bitter reality that she did not possess the knowledge of swimming, Meiying found her mind drifting back to a time when Li Chenwei, her soon to be husband, had made attempts to teach her this life-saving skill. Alas, her profound fear for water had compelled her to hastily retreat from his tutelage.
Panic resonated within Meiying's chest as her lungs succumbed to the relentless pressure, constricting her ability to breathe. In the face of imminent death, she found herself grappling with the profound disbelief that she would perish after enduring arduous trials, excruciating pain, and untold suffering to secure the progress she had attained thus far.
Yet, just as the veil of unconsciousness threatened to envelop her, Meiying's eyes fluttered open, granting her a glimpse of a figure diving into the waves and swimming towards her. Though unable to discern the identity of her saviour, she found solace in the assurance that safety was within reach. A fragile smile graced her features before her consciousness slipped away once more.
"But wouldn't it be for the best that she doesn't wake up?" The unsettling words hung in the air, piercing through Meiying's burgeoning consciousness, she immediately snapped her eyes wide open.
"Mistress, you are awake!" both voices exclaimed in sheer relief, their concern permeating their tone.
Meiying's astonishment intensified as she comprehended the identities of the individuals before her. Surveying her surroundings, shock coursed through her veins, leaving her utterly flabbergasted.
"Did you abduct me?" she exclaimed, attempting to sit up, only to be overcome by a sharp pain in her lower back.
"Would you look at that, finally she has lost her mind," Meiying's eyes narrowed as she locked eyes with the person who elegantly approached her bedside.
"Liu Qingting," she gritted her teeth. 'Of course, it was Qingting who orchestrated all of this. She couldn't simply leave me be after discovering that I am now living happily,' Meiying seethed with anger.
The two maids standing beside her shuffled uncomfortably, torn between their reluctance to leave and Qingting's unspoken command to depart but then obeyed her.
"Qingting, you've taken this too far! Let me go!" Meiying yelled, her voice coated with desperation.
Qingting looked at her in confusion but then let out a mocking laugh, her voice dripping with disdain. "If you think you can contemplate suicide again, allow me to remind you that it will never come to pass. Wang Xuejian will not allow such a tragedy to occur within the walls of his home. Just wait until he returns, it's a pity Xuejian is still bound to your presence," she sneered before exiting the room.
Meiying didn't think to much and immediately stood up despite the pain at her lower back and went to the walk in closet which she found out that it was still looking the same, but then she handpicked a white shirt with a denim jeans and boots, she expertly tied up her flowing locks and adorned herself with a fashionable handbag.
However, before embarking on her quest, she rummaged through the contents of the bedside cupboard, her heart pounding with anticipation. Joy swept over her as her searching fingers stumbled upon the discovery of a car key nestled within the clutter. Eager to embark on her journey, she stepped out of the room with a grace so delicate it could rival that of a swan. To her astonishment, the usual bustling presence of the diligent maids seemed to have dissipated, rendering an eerie silence throughout the corridors.
As she neared the entrance, perfectly synchronizing her steps with the echoes of her surroundings, she heard voices which guided her towards a closed room adjacent to the entrance door. Peeking through the ajar door, a scene unfolded before her eyes that left her deeply puzzled.
The head butler's powerful voice boomed through the room, reprimanding a group of assembled maids. A hint of skepticism caused her brow to furrow momentarily as she recalled the rumors surrounding Butler Yang's demise. Perhaps the tragic accident was nothing more than a lie?
Just as she was about to turn away when an exclamation from the butler captured her attention. "So, none of you have any inkling as to who removed the ladder from the tree?"
She quickly remembered an unforgettable memory but she shaked it off. Meiying then swiftly pressed forward, and proceeded to exit the mansion and immediately spotted the familiar sight of her prized possession, a Ferrari gifted to her by Xuejian on her twentieth birthday. Grateful that he had retained it, she comfortably settled into the car seat, she ignited the engine and swiftly accelerated, leaving the estate behind.
Her destination was quite clear, she needed to explain to Chenwei the unfortunate events that had transpired aboard the yacht. The thought of missing their once-in-a-lifetime wedding had never been her intention.
Stopping in front of the gate, she cautiously placed in the password and the gates then obediently parted, granting her access to the path that would lead her back to Chenwei's embrace. Her eyes caught sight of him emerging from his abode, his gaze fixated upon her car, a perplexed expression adorning his handsome visage.
Chenwei's newly-trimmed haircut allowed his lush locks to cascade elegantly towards the side of his face, accentuating the piercing allure of his striking blue eyes. Both of their orbs shared the enchanting hue of the vast sapphire sea, earning them the endearing title of "the blue-eyed couple." With a dainty button nose, plump and rosy lips, and sharply sculpted jawline embodied the very essence of a captivating, polished gentleman.
Brimming with joy, Meiying eagerly bounded towards him to hug him. However, a wave of confusion washed over Chenwei's countenance as he forcefully pushed her away, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "My sincerest apologies, but I must inquire - do I know you?"
Meiying's laughter, gentle and melodic, danced through the air, an attempt to dispel his bewildered state. "Oh, Chenwei. I understand your anger, and I wholeheartedly apologize for the unfortunate circumstances." Her voice quivered with genuine remorse as she tenderly held his hand within her own, "Please, forgive me."
Nodding firmly, Chenwei's tone held a cautionary note as he addressed her misdeeds. "Of course, I am angry, and I understand your behaviour if you're a fan of mine. However, driving into my house and attempting to embrace me like this, it's quite inappropriate."
"But I-I am your wife," Meiying exclaimed, her voice filled with a mix of confusion and hurt.
"My wife?" He chuckled dismissively, his words carrying a tinge of disbelief.
Meiying refused to give up, stepping closer and reaching out to gently poke his hand. "Stop being ridiculous now. I've missed you, and you know that I love you too," she pleaded, hoping to bridge the widening gap between them.
Growing increasingly uncomfortable, he declared, "I'm going to call for security now. This situation is getting weirder by the minute."
A young lady, adorned with ebony tresses cascading like a waterfall down her shoulders and blessed with an innocent countenance appeared and interjected, her voice brimming with unwavering confidence, "Such measures are wholly unnecessary, my love." Meiying, taken aback by this unexpected term of endearment, could only utter, "Love?"
Narrowing her eyes, Meiying suddenly recognized the young lady before her. "Just because I didn't show up at the wedding, you think it's acceptable to go back to your ex-girlfriend?" Meiying's words hung in the air, heavy with accusation.
Yearning to confront Meiying, the lady in question bristled, ready to pounce. Sensing the tension, Chenwei swiftly intervened, holding her back, urging, "Xiaoxiao, please stop."
Addressing Meiying with conviction, Chenwei countered, "I don't know who you are, but I have been dating her for two years, and I plan to marry her. Look at the ring on your finger; it signifies that you're married. Please go back to your husband and leave us alone." With those words, he ushered Xiaoxiao into his car, and they drove off, leaving Meiying stunned in their wake.
Gazing at the ring on her finger, Meiying carefully removed it, observing the finely engraved words, "Xuejian will love Meiying always and forever." It was the ring Xuejian had given her. Overwhelmed by the events since she woke up, she realized with a heavy heart that she had been reborn. As she sank to her knees, questions flooded her mind. What had she done? Being reborn should have offered a chance to make things right, but this was all so wrong.
