บท 78: Conferring with the enemy

The men we had brought with us advanced to our position, and Khutulun signaled for them to stop.

I assumed they would have looked very intimidating on their mounts from afar, but we weren’t here to wage war but to make peace. I turned to Khutulun to my right and then Urus to my left.

“Let’s see who’s home.”

As if she had been reading my mind, Habibi strutted forward to Khu’s amusement. No matter what, my mare simply loved the attention and could sense when people were looking at us. Like at this moment when a whole army was watching our every movement.

We advanced until we reached the maximum reach of the archers and I stood up on Habibi’s back.

Clearing my throat, I used wind-breathing in order to project my voice further before addressing the crowd before us.
