The next morning, Layla dialed her father-in-law's number, her heart pounding as she waited for him to answer. After a few rings, his familiar voice came through, warm and steady.

"Good morning, Layla," Alekis greeted her, a hint of curiosity in his tone. "To what do I owe the pleasure of this early call from my daughter-in-law?"

"Good morning, Father," Layla replied, keeping her voice composed. "I was hoping we could meet today."

Alekis chuckled softly. "Layla, you're always welcome at the house. There's no need for formalities or advance notice."

Layla hesitated for a moment before speaking again, her tone more serious. "I appreciate that, Father, but this isn't a casual visit. There's something important I need to discuss with you—privately."

Alekis paused, sensing the weight behind her words. "I see," he said, his tone shifting to one of quiet concern. "Very well. Let's arrange a time and place. Is everything all right?"
