'Are they suicidal?' Shane asked himself in all seriousness, starting to wonder if they were naive or plain dumb.

[I'm allowed to enter your shelters? Wouldn't it be too dangerous to let a stranger enter a shelter, without any reassurance?]

He was not a saint or anything like that but the Elus merchant's message made him suspicious about the Elus race's behavior.

'Why are they acting like that? Is that some sort of plan or is that their normal behavior?'

Allowing him to enter their shelter was already dangerous if he were to be an acquaintance, even more so due to the fact that they were only business partners right now!

He hadn't known the members of the race or the merchant beforehand.

Letting a business partner inside by saying "I allow you to enter my shelters where hundreds of thousand innocent citizens might live in" was unheard of.

As such, Shane wanted to understand what he was missing.
