"Rosa, what do you think?"
Although Hilda had accepted Gary's affection when they were at the ice cream shop, she still couldn't understand why Rosa, as Gary's girlfriend, would encourage it.
"Well, I knew it a long time ago. Both Hilda and Gary have had feelings for each other, so I just gave them a little push," Rosa smiled and explained to Hilda's question.
"But what about you, Rosa..." Hilda didn't finish her sentence, but the meaning was clear.
"I'm fine," Rosa shook her head and continued, "As long as Gary has a place for me in his heart, that's enough."
"Rosa, I understand," Hilda acknowledged Rosa's feelings and accepted her kindness.
"Rosa," Gary said, immediately hugging Rosa into his arms with a heartfelt tone.
"Gary, you must treat both of us well in the future, or else don't blame me for being harsh," Rosa playfully threatened, though her tone lacked any real menace.
"Of course," Gary replied with a smile, charmed by Rosa's cute demeanor.
"That's good," Rosa was satisfied with Gary's answer and continued, "Then let's continue shopping. I have a lot of things to buy today!"
"I want to shop too," Hilda chimed in, joining Rosa and Gary.
"Of course, there's no problem. What do you want to buy? Today, I'll cover it all," Gary said generously, happy to have both Rosa and Hilda by his side.
"Well, let's go!" Rosa and Hilda, each holding one of Gary's arms, continued to stroll through Petalburg City under the envious eyes of many onlookers.
After a day of shopping in Petalburg City, Gary returned to the Pokémon Center with numerous bags and a tired body.
Rosa and Hilda, however, were quite different from Gary. They walked ahead of him with radiant faces and entered the Pokémon Center first.
"Girls' stamina is truly mysterious!" Gary thought, feeling a bit defeated by the shopping endurance of Rosa and Hilda.
Just as Gary returned to their room at the Pokémon Center and lay down to rest, his phone suddenly rang.
"Gary, your phone is ringing," Rosa kindly reminded him as he lay on the bed, reluctant to move.
"I know," Gary replied, struggling to get up. He took out his phone and saw who was calling.
Seeing it was his grandfather, Professor Oak, Gary wiped the tiredness from his face, pressed the answer button, and soon Professor Oak appeared on the screen.
"Grandpa, is there something you need to talk to me about?" Gary asked, surprised by his grandfather's call, as Professor Oak was usually immersed in research and rarely contacted him.
Rosa and Hilda, standing by, perked up their ears to listen when they heard it was Gary's grandfather calling.
"Wouldn't I contact you if I had nothing to do?" Professor Oak asked in response to Gary's question.
"Isn't it?" Gary retorted playfully.
"It seems so!" Professor Oak admitted, scratching his head embarrassedly.
"Tell me, what's the matter this time?" Gary, accustomed to Professor Oak's behavior, asked directly.
"It's like this," Professor Oak began, getting to the point, "I'm going to the Hoenn region, so I wanted to ask where you are now."
"Coming to the Hoenn region?" Gary was surprised by Professor Oak's visit.
"Yes, I'm doing academic research with Professor Birch, and I want to see you by the way," Professor Oak explained.
"In addition, I have something to give you!" he added.
"Is that so," Gary nodded.
"I remember you were in Rustboro City before. Where are you now?" Professor Oak asked, recalling Gary's previous call.
"I'm in Petalburg City now," Gary replied, now understanding the purpose of Professor Oak's visit.
"Then let's meet at Professor Birch's research institute," Professor Oak suggested.
"That's no problem," Gary agreed after getting nods from Rosa and Hilda.
"Well, I still have a few days before I leave, so you can stay at Professor Birch's place for a while," Professor Oak said with a smile.
"Okay," Gary agreed, and Professor Oak hung up the phone.
"That means we're going to Professor Birch's research institute next," Rosa said, discussing the next itinerary with Gary.
"That's right, it's a good opportunity to go back and see Professor Birch," Gary agreed.
"Well, let's set off tomorrow," Rosa suggested, realizing there was no reason to stay in Petalburg City.
"No problem," Gary and Hilda had no objections.
The next morning, after having breakfast at the Pokémon Center, Gary, Rosa, and Hilda packed their luggage and headed towards Littleroot Town.
On the way, they passed through Oldale Town and arrived at Littleroot Town on the third day, reaching Professor Birch's research institute.
After ringing the doorbell, Gary and the others met Professor Birch as they had hoped.
Professor Birch was surprised by their arrival.
"Gary, how come you have time to visit?" Professor Birch asked.
"I heard from my grandfather that he was coming here for research, so I came to see him," Gary explained.
"I see, that's what happened," Professor Birch said, recalling the news of Professor Oak's visit.
"You can stay here until Professor Oak arrives," Professor Birch invited them to stay.
"Thank you, Professor," Gary said, and they settled in at Professor Birch's research institute, waiting for Professor Oak's arrival.
