บท 17: Chesto Avenue!

Now, there was a vacant area where a bridge was stationed. There sat an underpass where a river used to run through Viridian, but now, all that was left was a dried-up vacant underpass.

People would often dump their trash here, or the wind would sweep it up and blow it toward this location.

Rattata could often be seen here grazing and scavenging on rotten and wasted food. Large pipelines led into the depths of the sewer system underneath the streets of Viridian.

In the next moment, a flash of purple emitted through the area, brightening and lighting up the surroundings.

Right then, several figures appeared out of the void. One human and Ten Pokemon had abruptly appeared on the scene.

This could be none other than Leon and his Pokemon squad.

"Oh, it seems we've arrived near the Viridian bridge." Leon sighed in relief, he knew where this was.

Afterward, Leon recalled the Smeargle, the Pokemon in the fish tank, and both Houndooms. Both Machoke, Machamp, and Kadabra were left for working purposes.

Machamp held the multiple duffle bags, while both Machoke continued to hold the fish tank. Kadabra used his telekinetic abilities to carry the desk and chair Leon had.

"Haha, I have so much money now. I feel so good about myself, but it unfortunate that I can store it."

Leon didn't wish to leave his money at home under his bed or even in his closet.

"What I need to acquire is a safe to store my money." Leon knew just the place to buy such a safe.

He noticed the large pipelines that led into the depths of the sewers. Leon couldn't help but wonder what type of Pokemon could be wandering down there.

He guessed that Pokemon such as Grimer, Zubat, Rattata, Raticate, Trubish, and maybe Gulpin were down there. Ekans wasn't an impossibility either, since it would be attracted by Pokemon such as Rattata.

"I may come and explore this place with the kids if they want to catch new Pokemon." Leon would have to give them a starter Pokemon before any of that.

"I originally wanted to wait, but since I've made a killing I can make an exception." Leon turned to both Machoke and ordered them to pour the fish tank water out.

Afterward, Leon asked Kadabra about the situation of the sewer line. Kadabra focused and discovered many Pokemon hidden within.

"Just as I thought." Leon nodded before asking Kadabra to Teleport him to Ember Street. Kadabra had to check Leon's thoughts to know of its location.

Afterward, the group disappeared again before appearing in an empty alleyway.

Leon gazed out of the alleyway, this alley was close to his temporary HQ. He was about to ask Kadabra to teleport him into the building, however, he heard a voice.

'I can teleport you into the building if this is what you need.' Right then, Leon heard Alakazam's voice.

He had entered Alakazam's preception range, and it had detected him.

'Yes, that would be nice.' Leon nodded with a smile.

In the next moment, he and the rest of his Pokemon appeared within the building.

Kadabra was shocked, it, for some reason tried to resist. However, Kadabra found that the telekinetic force of this Alakazam was beyond it.

Once Leon realized what Kadabra was trying to do, he was speechless.

"Don't feel so bad, his level is higher than yours and he's your final evolution."

"...."

Leon tried to comfort Kadabra, but his expression didn't look so good.

"How about you sit these items down and you can go up and greet Alakazam."

Leon was honestly happy that these Pokemon had some personality to them. So he didn't see Kadabra feeling the way it did as a bad thing.

Kadabra didn't say anything, he simply nodded before doing so.

"They're all in the back of the building. I don't need to call out to them right now." Afterward, he went downstairs to the last floor.

This building had multiple floors and rooms that had yet to be explored. The fish tank was left on the first floor as Machamp followed him. The rest of his Pokemon had been recalled to their Pokeballs.

"Alright, for now, I'll leave the money in this office room," Leon ordered Machamp to leave the money behind an old dusty desk.

"I should take a bit of money to buy a safe and some Pokemon food." Jinx and the rest needed to eat, it was best to feed them for their hard work.

In the next moment, Leon was walking down the street by himself. He had grabbed a few stacks of cash and stuffed it into his clothes.

Of course, Leon would be seeking trouble if he were to walk down the street holding stacks of money.

The streets were the same as usual; they were cracked and roots were starting to grow from from said cracks.

The streets were damped and filled with puddles. There were people dressed in rags and conversing on the street.

After all, it had been raining hard recently.

Leon wondered why the Alliance would allow people to live under these conditions. He minded his business and didn't bother to converse with anyone.

'Hmm, what are those kids staring at me for?' Leon was often stared at by other kids with glittery eyes.

It was as if they were looking at an idol.

Leon's next destination was to buy a decently large safe to store his money. He couldn't leave this type of money in that building for long.

That building wasn't owned by them yet, so it was best to keep his valuables out of it.

As Leon kept walking, the scenery became more appealing to the eyes. This was because he was getting closer to the core of the city.

"Here we are, Chesto Avenue." The walk took Leon a whopping 25 minutes to reach by foot.

It hard trying to hold his much money in his shirt to prevent it from falling out.

"The streets are cleaner here and there are even quite a few vendors. I can smell the tasty food from some of these vendors."

The streets were almost packed with people going back and forth. Some people were riding motorcycles for transportation, it was similar to places like South America in some countries.

There wasn't much activity back in the slum compared to here. However, Leon had been here several times before.

"I'll take a 7 skewers, please." Leon couldn't resist after smelling these delicacies, so he came over to buy a few.

The skewers contained meat and vegetables that had been glazed with sweat and spicy sauce.

Leon gave Machamp 4 of the 7 skewers before continuing down the street. Machamp was delighted as it ate the skewers with a cheerful expression.

That's when Leon came to a small store called [Dave's Accessory Store]. This was a mid-sized store, and there were many clear glass panes on it. This allowed Leon to see what was mostly on display.

"How are you? What can I help you with young man?"

Leon was dressed decently, it wasn't anything professional or anything but normal. As soon as Leon walked through the door, he was greeted.

The man wore a standard white collared shirt with black pants. He had curly hair that lay on his head; while appearing to be in his early thirties or so.

"I wish to purchase a safe."

"A safe? Yes, we sell safes of many sizes and securities. Please, this way. By the way, my name is Evan." The man didn't seem to care about Leon's age.

The Machamp standing next to him showed that he was the real deal despite his age.

Evan's led him to an aisle filled with different types of safes.

"These are the best safes made of steel alloy which require 2 different security checks to enter."

Evan gave a waving gesture over the shelves filled with different safes. Leon only cared about the size, durability, storage, and the metal material it was made from.

"This one, I want to see what the inside of this safe looks like." This safe was black and way taller than Leon.

"This one has really big storage, it is 1.82 centimeters in length and width. It's made from steel alloy for its exterior and carbon for its interior."

Evan said this as he was opening the safe. Everyone brand new safe in the aisle had the same code to open them.

Once you've bought the chosen safe, you could just change the password. Speaking of passwords, there was an extra wall put up in order to access these safes.

This was an optional setting.

"Yeah, I'll take it." Leon waved his hand and said.

"Uh, alright. I'll have it ready for you in a minute." Evan told Leon to follow him to the counter to check out.

"Your total is ₽30,000," Evan said with a smile.

Leon handed Evan 3 stacks of cash, which was ₽10,000 for each stack.

Evan's eyes widened before proceeded to check Leon out. Leon was given a receipt afterward.

Evan asked Leon if he wanted it delivered, or if he wanted someone to come pick it up.

Leon summoned a Xatu before they went to the back.

"Am I good to go?" Leon asked.

"Uh, yes." Evan wondered what Leon was going to do.

"Alright, Xatu, let's teleport out of here with this safe. You know where we needed to go."

Xatu raised its wings before its eyes flashed with blue light. In the next moment, a purple void engulfed the safe, Leon, Xatu, and Machamp.

"What is going on?" The manager looking at the camera from the security room stood up abruptly.

The cameras were covered in purple light for a brief moment before returning to normal.

Evan on the other hand, stood there with a dumb-struck expression. He was expecting Leon to have Xatu use its telekinetic abilities to lift the safe and carry it away.

Evan understood one thing for sure, Psychic and Fighting-type Pokemon were good workers.
