บท 34: May the fallen be forever remembered

The year 1992 was relatively peaceful after the PANTHER incident. Soviet spies and Hydra spies were discovered on weekly basis and neutralized or captured. Those who were loyalists were directly put down while those who seek power, money or anything else, were handled by SHIELD.
SHIELD also lost a lot of combat power but now it was snake-free. They were focusing more on the US and other allies now. Keller however, refused to provide us with any weapons or items from SHIELD vaults as he believed he can protect them better. We, without any liability to any official entity, were not fit to keep these in his eyes.
I upgraded and copied Martha into three new AI systems. One was for my company and its operations called 'The Lady'. One to monitor and maintain US bases and safe houses and all US bases intelligent agencies 'Themis' and 'Martha' in the Shadow Isles to monitor and maintain this base and our operations in general.
Phillips group partnered with the Oscorp group in the US and produced new healthy snack items. From healthy juices to protein bars, we covered the entire snack market. This was due to the sheer abundance of plants and trees in our new base where extracts even from leaves, diluted to a huge amount, were still beneficial to any human body.
In this MCU earth, there is no goblin or dying Norman Osborn. He is just a normal businessman. So yes, it's safe.
After a whole year, we have transferred all personnel to our new base and it finally looked like a small city. I got together with Melina & we all shifted to our new home. Also, a lot of new people were invited here like my parents and Stark couple.
They were obviously shocked looking at this place and after the initial shock, my father, Mark Phillip was laughing the whole day. He was super proud of me and compared to womanizer Tony who spend his days drunk or making weapons, I was a lot better. My mother met Melina and approved of her. Anyway, we all are scientists working on human longevity here.
They are not aware of our work here or our secret identities. Mostly their living quarters are near the river area where they are enjoying and living the old life peacefully. In their eyes, we have found heaven and working on something that can help us live longer. It's true in a sense.
------January 1993 - Operation Room-----
SHIELD got intel about some terror groups that had past connections with HYDRA and were now planning a terrorist attack in the US. However, these bastards were hiding deeply and they had failed to make any progress on this. SHIELD director, Keller, called Fury on this.
"The only information we have is there is an attack that can kill hundreds if not thousands of people in the country before March. They were supplied with a huge number of explosives and they had been stockpiling them for this attack. I already asked 'Themis' for any news but so far, these people are talking in private and there is nothing we can find online." Nick told us in the operations room.
"Nick, do you know what kind of weapons they have. If they have something special that leaves its unique mark, maybe we can track it." I asked him.
"We should also deploy the knights and start searching manually on possible target locations. For this kind of attack, they need a place full of people and easy access." Steve added.
"We have no information on their weapons. We are practically blind here. In this case, we can only follow the voice from the crowd." Fury said thinking.
"Ten teams of knights will be dispatched to ten different tourist locations and will cover from the ground. This kind of attack needs time and planning. So, there must be some traces.
Phil, Rogers and Bucky will work alone on those famous mafia and gang families. We already have a list. Make a personal visit and let them what will happen if they hide anything on this.
Icarus and Valkyrie will lead a separate team on the highway and port areas. If these people are coming from outside, they must take such possible routes. Falcon drones will monitor anything suspicious from the sky and for now, 'Themis' will cover all online chatter."
Fury gave the outline of the operations and we were then conveyed personal orders. Everyone got into their uniforms and moved into the Quinjets. These were newly upgraded Quinjets with better and silent engines and had the cloaking tech to make them invisible to radar and naked eyes.
After weeks of our search and visits to all possible gangs and crime families, we finally got a hit. One FBI informant mentioned on a phone call to the FBI about a team of trained Islamist militants, from Pakistan and Iraq, planning to detonate multiple bombs all over the US.
He was a spy planted by the FBI in that group and FBI was basically monitoring hundreds of such known groups. These FBI bastards never took the information seriously but we had to move.
0n Feb 15, we raided multiple locations and found several kilos of explosives. There were many chemical bombs placed strategically in multiple hidden areas. However, these bastards managed to escape. We traced the chemicals to a factory that was also abandoned and we were back to square one. The FBI spy was also attacked after he was found out but he managed to getaway.
We kept chasing these bastards with all power and found that Hydra along with the Soviets was helping them from shadows. We had multiple small battles with them that resulted in Public or media getting our photos but 'Themis' deleted anything online and the Phillips group rejected to approve such low-level conspiracy theories of heroes and spies.
Some photos or videos were still in hands of some people but it didn't matter in long run. We have already met many criminal groups so our presence was widely known in the underground world.
On Feb 26, 1993, Val reported four trucks moving with fake license plates are heading towards some popular public spots. Icarus and Val went together to the nearest one. I took the second one near to me while Rogers and Bucky went after the last two.
Knights reached the possible destinations in advance and created roadblocks ahead of possible routes.
We managed to stop three trucks after fighting the HYDRA loyalists who were actually driving these trucks and the knight's team took these away. Just when we gave all clear to Fury, there was a huge blast. Icarus and Val somehow got stuck in the first truck and these bastards managed to ram it into World Trade Center.
Knowing they won't be able to do the damage they intended, they activated the charge ahead of time and ran away from the truck. Val and Icarus tried to minimise the explosion by driving it into a pillar as 'Themis' suggested would result in the least structural and human losses.
This was the deadliest attack of Hydra in the US but the loss of human life was only to six unfortunate people. This attack also resulted in the death of Valkyrie and Icarus as they were in the truck when it exploded. No matter what suit you wear, nothing can withstand an explosion from a 600-kg chemical bomb at such a close distance.
This was the first sacrifice our group made and failed to stop Hydra attacks. 'Themis' tracked the escaped militants and we handed them over to Shield. These bastards were just the front for the attacks and not the mastermind. Killing them would have been easy but the US govt. needed to parade them alive.
Someone needed to be the poster boys for evil and Hydra agents were either dead or captured by us and cannot be handed over.
Icarus and Valkyrie were the first fighters I and Hope personally hired and they were with us for the last two years. Losing them was like losing family to all of us and this made 1993 an important year for us.
In the new base, two empty graves were planted and a new Memory tablet was placed outside our HQ. For now, there were only two names for many to join them in future.
