บท 325: Some Friends (1)
Hearing the little boy call her mommy, Lu AnLing felt her heart soar but she didn't want to cry of happiness in front of her parents so, before letting the boy leave, Lu AnLing kissed Kang Mingyu's chubby cheeks and said, "You're such a good boy. You really love your sister don't you?"
Hearing this, Kang Mingyu began to blush slightly and then he said, "She's a bit awkward sometimes and she's my best friend but I know that she's a bit lonely... it would be good to make friends with someone else..."
Kang Jun and Lu AnLing watched as the boy explained to them his thoughts. The boy was never much of a talker but little by little he began to open up. And the more he did, the more Lu AnLing realized that Kang Mingyu was more extraverted than he seemed. He liked to talk to people, but because of his upbringing with Qiao Lan, he had been forced to keep his true self hidden. This thought made Lu AnLing's heart hurt.
Patting his head, Kang Jun gave the boy a soft expression and then he said, "Don't just think of your sister, you also need some friends."
Lu AnLing agreed with her husband.
Hearing such a thing, Kang Mingyu smiled at his mother and father and then he nodded before heading over to the two girls who stood a bit awkwardly in the corner of the room.
The kids were left playing at the side of the room under Rong Lihua's watchful gaze, while this left the adults time to talk amongst themselves.
Looking at her mother, Lu AnLing didn't stop herself from being frank.
Lu AnLing: "So you're giving me custody of Yuxi, right?"
Hearing this, Lu Xiaoling nodded. "She's your daughter. I wouldn't keep her from you. But I think a slow integration would be best."
Kang Jun nodded. "We understand that. But we want our family to be whole sooner rather than later."
Listening to this, Lu Duyi was confused, but it was Lu Shuya who spoke first.
"Our family?" Lu Shuya asked simply.
Hearing this, Lu AnLing nodded. "Biologically, Lu Yuxi and Kang Mei Xue are my children with Kang Jun."
Lu Shuya's eyes widened. She was about to ask how that was possible but then Lu AnLing said, "Before you say anything, let me just say it was a drunken one night stand. Neither of us knew what we were getting into. But all in all, it worked out. I guess it was fate for us to meet."
As she said this, Lu AnLing leaned into her husband lovingly.
Meanwhile, these words caused Lu Shuya to shut up but now it was Lu Duyi's turn to be confused.
"What in the heck is going on?!" Lu Duyi almost screamed.
Hearing this, Lu AnLing smiled and explained the situation simply to her brother.
Lu Duyi's eyes widened. "I'm so sorry I wasn't there for you..."
Lu AnLing shook her head. "It's not your job to be there for me, but your sentiments are enough for me."
"Why didn't you tell me?" Lu Duyi asked questioningly yet hesitatingly.
Hearing this, Lu AnLing left Kang Jun's side to sit by Lu Duyi.
"It's because I didn't want to worry you." Lu AnLing said and then she touched her brother's hair, "You were still a child... more of a child than you are now! What kind of older sister would I be if I put all my problems on you?"
Lu Duyi understood Lu AnLing but he still felt a bit bad. She was his sister and he wanted to be there for her. Always.
However Lu Duyi wasn't the only one feeling guilty... Seeing this, and hearing what had happened to her, even Xu Shen felt like that. He didn't know many of the details but now, hearing everything that had to be said, Xu Shen felt as if he could have done much more for the girl as a father figure but then, his gaze fell on Kang Jun.
Xu Shen then said, "AnLing, I'm glad that you found your happiness. You deserve it. I don't know if I said this to you before but congratulations on your marriage. I hope you only get happier from this day forward."
Hearing Xu Shen's words, Lu AnLing felt as if she was about to cry.
This felt like her own father was giving her away and so it made Lu AnLing's heart tighten.
"Thanks, dad..." She said simply.
Lu AnLing had never called Xu Shen dad before. It was always 'Uncle' but now, hearing her say this, Xu Shen began to cry.
Seeing this, all three of his children were alarmed but Lu Xiaoling just sighed.
It was true that she had never loved Xu Shen. Their marriage was one of convenience but she was lucky to have the man. Because of him, each one of her children, without discrimination, had received something she could never give to them; boundless unconditional love.
Uncomfortable seeing her father cry, Lu Shuya averted her eyes and then she looked towards the three children.
Lu Shuya didn't want to go to Lu AnLing and Kang Jun's place at first. Lu AnLing was her sister but Lu Shuya acknowledged that she had treated Lu AnLing wrong and so, she thought that it was best to leave Lu AnLing to live her life in bliss.
And besides, Lu Shuya did not want to be a reason why Lu AnLing remembered part of her painful past.
Actually, she had planned to spend her day trying to find another job but as she was getting ready to go out, she received a call from her father but the one who answered was not Xu Shen.
"Auntie, I'm going to meet mommy and daddy today!" Lu Yuxi said on the phone as she ran around her room.
"That's good XiXi, have fun!" Lu Shuya said in her sweetest voice.
"Yes! Actually, that's why I asked Grandpa to borrow his phone..." Lu Yuxi said and then she suddenly paused. "I want you to come with me!"
"I can't..." Lu Shuya didn't hesitate to say.
Hearing this, Lu Yuxi frowned and then she said, "Auntie... to tell you the truth... I'm a bit scared to meet mommy and daddy... what if they don't like me..."
Hearing such words, Lu Shuya felt her heartbreak. "Don't say that darling, they'll love you. AnLing is... very loving and kind and as for Kang Jun... he carried you last time right? You said he was careful with you?"
Lu Yuxi: "Yes... but that doesn't mean they'll love me... if Auntie is there, I'll have more courage that they'll love me!"
Lu Yuxi's logic was extremely flawed but even if it didn't make much sense, Lu Shuya was weak against her niece and so, she had no choice but to accompany them.
Now, looking between her bawling father and at how Lu Yuxi enjoyed herself with Kang Mei Xue and Kang Mingyu, at that moment, Lu Shuya smiled.
She was glad she had come.

caremel Well, we are back to two chapters per day now. Can you imagine that there is less than 100 chapters left until the end of the main story?! and there is still a lot to go like; Trailblazers, Tang Family drama, the custody battle, revelations from the past arising (is Kang Liang actually a Kang?), everyone finding out that Kang Jun and Lu AnLing are the bio parents of KMX and LYX, everyone finding out that Kang Jun is not a Kang, a bit of the Infinity Project, etc... (not in that exact order)
บท 326: Indebted
The group of people stayed in the living room for a long time, thought after a while, Kang Jun recommended to take Xu Shen on a tour of the house. He had invited Lu Duyi along, at first, but the boy had wanted to stay stuck to his eldest sister, which Kang Jun didn't mind at all.
The two were close, and yet, Lu AnLing had put distance between them since she had gotten pregnant and yet the boy still loved her as much as he always had. Kang Jun found this relationship beautiful, and he was glad that Lu Duyi could be there, not only for his wife but also to mend the relationships between Lu AnLing, Lu Xiaoling and Lu Shuya.
As they walked Xu Shen asked Kang Jun many random questions about his day to day like with Lu AnLing, Kang Mei Xue and Kang Mingyu, and then, after a while, Xu Shen said,
"Are you even human? The only fault I can find in you is your coldness, but even that is barely a fault."
Hearing this, Kang Jun couldn't help but laugh lowly. "I have many flaws. The only difference between me and everyone else is that I don't try to hide them. If I'm angry, I'll show anger, if I dislike someone, they'll know, and if I love someone they'll feel it with their mind, body and soul."
The last part of his sentence was a bit embarrassing to hear, but Kang Jun showed no embarrassment whatsoever. Looking at him Xu Shen nodded. This did prove Kang Jun's point to Xu Shen, so the man suddenly laughed.
"AnLing sure is lucky to have you. And you're lucky to have her. I think you two suit each other very well." Xu Shen said truthfully. "Frankly, I've never seen such a perfect pair. Xiaoling and I are very good as a team... and by that I mean our differences compliment each other, but all that's missing is that passion; that love."
There was something strange in Xu Shen's voice and Kang Jun easily picked up on it.
"Do you not love your wife?" Kang Jun asked simply.
Hearing this, Xu Shen smiled. "I love her in the way you love a childhood friend whom you've been with all your life."
Kang Jun cocked his head, "But you don't love her in a romantic way."
Xu Shen took a moment and he thought about it. Did he love Xiaoling romantically? He didn't need to think about it much. He knew the answer.
"Maybe once, but not anymore. In my opinion, It would be a shame if I still loved her romantically since she's always loved someone else." Xu Shen said as he slightly reminisced of the past.
He remembered the day he was first introduced to Lu Xiaoling. He thought she was a beautiful woman but he could easily tell that her whole heart was elsewhere.
He didn't know what had happened in her past or what she had done but he had married her despite all that was unknown.
Xu Shen: "Xiaoling isn't a bad person. She's just a bit quick to act. I don't really know what happened with her first husband but he did something to her which closed her whole heart up. And I'm sure that he's the only one who could open it back up again... but sadly, the man's already dead."
Kang Jun didn't care about Lu Xiaoling past, her feelings or her problems, but with the mention of Lu AnLing's father, Kang Jun jumped onto the subject head first.
"What do you know about AnLing's birth father?" Kang Jun asked with slight curiosity.
Hearing this question, Xu Shen shrugged.
"Frankly, not much." Xu Shen said as they continued to walk down the halls. "All I knew about Xiaoling's previous marriage was that the man was from a very influential family and the two had fallen in love. If I remember correctly, the man had had a big falling out with his parents and was disowned in the process but Xiaoling wanted to marry him anyway. I'm not sure what happened after that but less than a year or two later, she was back home, and then our marriage was arranged. Obviously, in that short span of time, she had given birth, but other than that, I know nothing."
Kang Jun nodded at every word, Xu Shen uttered. He wanted to know more about Lu AnLing's family situation so that he could see if he could help her in any way.
Xu Shen: "From what I know, the man died in a car accident. And it was sad because the man had nothing to give to AnLing. He had a small bit of money, but that was used to sustain his like for the small time he was in a coma. By the time AnLing had woken up, the man was dead..."
Hearing this, Kang Jun frowned. "How do you know all of this?"
Looking Kang Jun straight in the eyes, Xu Shen sighed. "This was all Xiaoling was willing to tell me. I bet that if I asked she would tell me, but I'd rather not ask."
Kang Jun didn't know what to say about this but when he finally decided what was appropriate to say, he said, "What do you think would happen if your wife was able to see AnLing's father again?"
Kang Jun wasn't sure if this was the right way to word it, but it was what he wanted to say.
Xu Shen was a kind man and Kang Jun didn't wish for the man to be hurt by what would probably ensue in the near future, so in his own way, Kang Jun tried to make the man, at least, think about it.
Hearing this, Xu Shen bit his lip, "Well... I'm sure that Xiaoling would be glad but other than that, I'm not sure what she would do."
After saying this, he saw Kang Jun's expression which told Xu Shen that he didn't believe the man.
Seeing this, Xu Shen laughed.
"I know you think I'm lying, but it's true..." Xu Shen said. After that, his expression turned a bit sad. "Xiaoling is a proud woman. She hates accepting help or pity from anyone but I've spent the last 25 years of my life helping her and being there for her. I bet that a part of her feels indebted to me. Not only because of what I did for her but what for what I did for AnLing."
Xu Shen paused and then he sighed as his eyes swept across the hall in front of him and then, he said, "As you obviously know, AnLing is not my daughter but when she came to the Lu family I treated her as such. This was not for Xiaoling's sake, but for AnLing's. It's hard to come into such a new, strange environment, which, more times rather than not, living there is hostile... Not to mention the fact that it was decided not to reveal that AnLing was biologically Xiaoling's daughter. I knew it would be hard for her, so I was there for AnLing... but to Xiaoling, this act is what keeps her indebted to me."

As long as I have school stuff to do, I'll be posting the chapters around this time (unless I accidentally oversleep, but let's hope that doesn't happen since I have sooooo much to do!)
