Ch 21-
They walked into the gym and without thought Kuroo followed Kenma over to a wall where he was going to stay for the bulk of the night. They both stood leaned up against the wall, one looking cool and one looking out of place. People came by and said their hellos and went about their business. About 20 minutes went by and Kenma finally gave in to the atmosphere. "Alright let's go." He said pushing himself off the wall. "Go where?" Kuroo asked, confused by his sudden change of heart. "I will do one lap." "Really?" Kuroo said eagerly, pushing himself off the wall. "Only one though." "Deal!" They started around the gym, it was strange how a place you've been in so many times can look so different with just a few balloons and dim lighting. About half way around Kenma stopped at the punch table to recoup and gather his thoughts. Surprisingly multiple people gave Kenma compliments. It was a lot of Kenma your suit, or Kenma your shoes, but mostly Kenma you're here. Mainly people who knew Kuroo but a few who were in some of his classes. Out of nowhere Kuroo's eyes lit up and Kema proceeded to question him with caution. "What, why are you smiling all of a sudden?" "I can't just smile?" "Not like that, what's making you so smiley?" "I'M here with you." He said as he leaned down matching kenmas height curly. "Ha ha real answer please." Kenma said as he took a step back. "Because everyone is totally staring at my super hot boyfriend." He said arrogantly as he rolled his eyes as if it was obvious. "Ok leaving in 3, 2, -" "So I may have slipped a small suggestion to the planning committee about posible desserts." "And?????" Kenma askeds expecting him to say something stupid. "I said that the student would probably enjoy something non-traditional like miniature apple pies." "No." "Yes!" Kenmas eyes lit up and a small smile crept across his face. "I'm starting to rethink this dance thing, can we go to the dessert table now?" He asked as his eyes darted across the room, locating the minie pies. "Yes, but first I'm gonna need you to dance." "I'll dance when a slow song comes on." He said thinking they weren't going to play a slow song for a while. TSince the time they walked in the only music they had played was generic pop music and everyone was jumping around like a bunch of rabbits in heat, there was no actual dancing involved. "I thought you might say that, so I took the liberty of preparing a little something. Just in case they forgot to play something a little more your speed." "What did you do?" Kenma asked as Kuroo waved at the guy working the song booth. Kenma panicked a little as the pop music got quieter and a voice came over the speakers. "Let's slow things down now, here's a mellow song for all those couples!" His heart dropped, yet again Kuroo was allowed to foil his plans. Kenma hadn't planned on dancing at all yet here he was, being yet again dragged against his will. When they got close enough to the floor Kuroo made the wise decision not to go all the way to the middle of the dance floor so everyone could make a circle around them, causing this big cinematic, cliche, lgbtqia+ friendly movie scene. They found a spot just inside the outskirts of the floor so they were dangling on the edge but not in the middle either. Kuroo had been had been holding Kenmas hand until they found their spot he left and went to grab Kenma's waist when he saw the confused look wash over his face. He put his hands back down to his sides and asked "What, What's wrong?" "If you put your hands on my waist then where am I supposed to put my hands?" "Around my neck." Kuroo said as he took a step back towards Kenma. Kenma took a minute and looked around the room. "Wait so, I'm the girl?" He asked, looking both confused and agitated. "Uh,um. Well-" Kuroo didn't know how to say Yes you're the girl because Im sertialy not, in a way that didn't sound like he was saying Yes you're the girl because Im sertialy not. "You want me to be the girl then?" Kuroo said as he took Kenmas hands and put them on his waist, and put his arms around Kenmas neck. "This looks stupid doesnt it?" Kenma asked as he rolled his eyes. "Incredibly." Kuroo siad back as he moved his hands around Kenmas waist and Kenma reluctantly gave in, sliding his hands up and about Kuroos neck. They danced there for the next 2 songs when finally the night was almost over, When the principal got up on the stage and prepared to announce the king and queen of prom. The music cut out and they focused their attention on the principal. He stood beside a small table with two crowns on it,he had an envelope in hand. "Alright I'm not going to bore you guys for the speech and said I'm going to get right to it," He said as he opened the envelope reading the two names on the piece of paper he stopped for a second and looked confused, he read them again shook his head and turned back to the microphone. " this year's prom king and queen or Kings, or Queens. you know I'm not really sure this year's prom royalty is… drum roll please." Jim a code with sounds of stomping and clapping until it finally mellowed out and he said "Kuroo Tetsuro, and Kenma Kozume!" half the room looked shocked and the room started screaming like a bunch of crazy people. There they were the center of attention, everyone turned towards them waiting for them to go up and get their crowns. Kuroo turned to face Kenma and as they looked at each other they both smiled and Kenma took delight in saying "Bail!" as he looked at Kuroo waiting for a response. "Yeah!" Kuroo said as he grabbed Kenmas hand and they ran out of the gym. Without even thinking made us down the street and across the way.
