Chapter 1: Catastrophe
01.01.2015 - Germany - Cologne
A young man, around 17 years old, was casually walking along the main street.
In his left hand was a small bag from a local manga store, and in his right, an outdated Android phone model on which he was playing the game Fate/Grand Order, relatively unknown in Germany.
"Du Hurensohn"(You son of a bitch) screamed the brown-haired boy. "Wie ist es möglich das Ich sie immer noch nicht bekommen habe... Das sind 250 Saint Quartz, wie hab ich Abby noch nicht bekommen!" (How is it possible that I've gotten nothing again... That's 250 Saint Quartz now, and I still haven't gotten Abby!)
Ophias—or more precisely, my former self—is the boy in question here.
Why "former self," you might ask? Simple... I disappeared.
I didn't run away or get kidnapped... at least not in the traditional sense.
Funny enough, I wasn't the only one who vanished that day.
Hundreds of thousands of people disappeared alongside me. And amusingly, the reason was nothing other than a summons to another dimension.
We just disappeared, exactly as you're imagining it...gone, poof, up in smoke... just like that, without a warning.
Naturally, all the missing people were labeled as... guess what... yes, "missing," and after four months of exhaustive investigations, they were officially declared dead.
Why am I explaining all of this in such detail?
Have you ever heard (hopefully) a good story that skips the beginning? No? Of course not...those stories weren't good. Anyway, I digress.
Shortly after my outburst about Fate/GO's odds, I was crossing a zebrastreifen (google it please, I dont wanna explain lol) to get home when suddenly, an extremely bright white light spread out across the horizon. It seemed to envelop people indiscriminately—young and old, men and women alike—including me.
I tried to run away, but strangely, the light didn't let up. And before I realized it, I found myself in a white, vast space.
All the "abducted" people were there, but somehow, there was still plenty of room for everyone, giving an idea of just how massive the space was.
And by "everyone," I mean literally everyone—not just from Germany. Other countries were involved in this incident as well. Russia, America, France, Spain, Macedonia, even North Korea—no exceptions.
Not even children were spared.
Just as we were about to collectively lose our minds and panic—which, thankfully, wouldn't be hindered by any language barriers—a round, gold-silver sphere appeared in the "sky." It erupted in a bright white light before speaking to us in monotone sentences.
{Mortals, you have been chosen to join the Outer Realm—a world that every mortal being is obligated to enter once selected.}
{Here, mortals can gain unimaginable power or become the slaves of the strong. You will need to complete missions in various worlds to earn rewards. There are no specific rules on how to accomplish these missions. However, keep in mind that not all tasks will pit you against each other.}
{With the help of a guide and a system, as well as one or more abilities unlocked through luck and destiny, all paths are open to mortals. These abilities often align with your fate or are purely based on luck. The ranks range from F, E, C, B, A, S, SS, EX, and EXE, with sub-ranks of – (- -) and + (++).}
After the voice went silent, the shouting resumed in full force.
Miraculously, everyone could understand the words spoken, and mass panic ensued.
At that moment, a percentage bar began to hover before everyone's eyes, visible only to the respective individual.
When the bar reached 100%, a new interface appeared.
[Outer Realm System]
And with that, we return to the present.
[Name: Ophias]
[Race: Human]
[Level: 0]
[Abilities: N/A]
Judging by the disappointed reactions of those around me, it seemed like their statuses weren't much different from mine.
{Now, awaken your abilities, mortals.}
After the light spoke again, my status field changed in the abilities category.
The "N/A" turned into "Awaken."
I quickly pressed the symbol, and various lights of different colors appeared around me.
Then, on the system interface before me, a list of abilities appeared—each one stronger than the last.
[Unnatural Existence (EX++)]: You are something that shouldn't exist. Essentially, abilities, effects, and attacks have no impact on you as long as they aim to affect your soul or harm your body over time. This includes seals, curses, and status effects.
[The Wanderer (???): You are unique. Your Pax is high, and you can travel freely between dimensions. The starting point is random, but once you've been somewhere, you can always find your way back. You share a special connection with certain beings.
[Pax Absorber (B++): Pax is the purest form of energy in the Outer Realm. You can place three absorbers in various locations. These will automatically absorb magical or natural energy from the surroundings and convert it into the energy system you use. However, this only provides you with additional energy—the amount you can naturally hold won't increase. Once you've placed three, you can only move previously placed absorbers to new locations. These will enter a "startup" phase for one month before functioning again.
I couldn't believe my eyes: two extremely powerful abilities and one B-ranked ability. From the conversations of those around me—whether they were celebrating or crying—it was clear that my abilities were among the top tier.
Oh, and speaking of hearing, when we awakened our abilities, we were also granted a universal translator, allowing us to speak, write, and read any humanoid language.
{Mortals, the time has come. Begin your journey, and remember: if you wish to return to your little planet Earth, then fight. Fight until you are the strongest.}
At that moment, a kaleidoscopic whirlpool of colors and sounds appeared, pulling us all in and throwing us into various portals. Before I could react, everything went black.
I could swear, however, that I faintly heard "music" in the distance before passing out—abstract, mind-scratching music that seemed to carry the word "Carter."
But the whisper of this "music" was as distant and indistinct as the sky-blue and dark violet eyes that, in that instant, opened far away and gazed in a specific direction.
