"Once again, I apologize for that!" Lawine bowed her head to my direction.
I was standing at some fountain corner, to which I waved her apology as nothing serious. "Eh, it's completely fine. I wasn't hurt in any way, so it's cool."
If it was truly a threat, it would have gone differently, however I didn't consider her crashing into me as a real 'threat' that's why my sense of danger didn't work.
It's something that I've learned after battling dozens of demonic beasts.
"I'm glad…" Lawine sighs in relief after I acknowledge her apology.
I smiled at her a bit and said. "Why so formal? It's not like anyone would be offended by such an accident."
"Tell that to those snobs…" Lawine muttered under her breath.
"Excuse me?" I raised a brow at her words.
Realizing that she was heard, she became flustered and hurriedly replied. "A-ah, no can you please forget about what I just said?"
I shrugged, thinking that this girl makes such a big deal of such things. "Sure, but tell me, why are you practicing levitation in such a crowded place?"
Lawine became even more flustered by this, and replied with a healthy amount of embarrassment. "I-i wasn't really thinking, I was very excited to use the levitation spell after mastering it yesterday from an academy, so I couldn't wait to try flying again."
Ah, so her excitement got better of her, which is something totally understandable, after all who wouldn't? It's literally flying.
"Somehow I doubt that."
"Doubt what?" Lawine frowned at my words.
"The fact that you mastered the spell, considering what happened…" I pointed it out.
"Ah..w-well…" Lawine once again became embarrassed and didn't know how to answer my words.
It wasn't really my intention to embarrass her, I just pointed something obvious. Anyway, I should break the ice.
"Aside from that, what's your name? I'm Stark." I introduced myself, I knew her name but she didn't know that.
The white haired girl was surprised for a bit, before introducing herself. "Oh, forgive me for my poor manners. I'm Lawine…just Lawine."
I could tell that she hesitated right there, come to think of it, I never knew what her last name was.
Originally I assumed that she's a commoner because she never mentioned her last name and commoners in this world really don't have any last name only nobles and royalty had them, considering the way she talks in a formal manner, she might be a noble's daughter.
Knowing that doesn't really change anything from me though. "Nice to meet you, Lawine, as unconventional our meeting was, as far as I can tell you're a local here right?"
Lawine tilted her head, not knowing where this was going. "I am, however, why do you ask?"
She wasn't even trying to hide that suspicion, well I can't blame her. However, it is unnecessary. "As you already notice, I'm not from this city and just arrived this morning, so…can you maybe give me a tour to some interesting place in this city?"
Hearing that, her suspicion completely disappeared and her expression brightened and answered. "It is my pleasure to do so, and as a formal apology for dropping at you in such an undignified manner."
Yep, this girl is definitely a noble. She might try to hide it, but she can't hide her upbringings.
It's so obvious, anyone who isn't an idiot would definitely notice this, as there's no way a normal person, a commoner would be taught manners like this.
Then after that, we went on a tour in the Royal Capital with Lawine as my guide.
—
There's a lot of things we visited, but I'll only mention the most impactful places we visited.
First we visited the biggest adventurer guild in the entire continent, it was honestly what I was hoping to see after arriving in this world.
Because without the adventure guild, it wouldn't complete the fantasy world, it's like sol and luna. It isn't perfect without each other.
I did get to enter the building and it's way cleaner and more peaceful than I expected, but then again it's just my personal opinion.
After visiting the guild, the next impactful place was the royal castle which we weren't allowed to enter as it's exclusively only for those who were invited or people who had high status.
I wasn't disappointed as I'm expecting this already, the fact that I was able to see a real castle up close was already a good thing to me.
Then the next one was the plaza where the statue of the hero party was located.
Frankly this is the first time I've seen one, we never really have the heroes statue in our town.
No, scratch that there is one actually, however it wasn't Himmel and his party, neither is Kraft and that unknown hero from Sein's village.
But a statue of a woman who is probably an elf, I wasn't sure because the statue was seriously ruined and I could only deduct that it's a female and an elf due to the statue ear being longer.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't Serie, I mean. This elf woman has a matured body unlike most elves I've seen in series has petite bodies.
And the last stop for today's tour was the magic academy of this city, to be honest it's a bit underwhelming, as the building isn't particularly unique or big.
But it does give a certain vibe, like the people who enter this place are intellectuals or scholars.
"So this is the magic academy huh…it's less grand than I thought." I said, while my other companion could only laugh at my comment.
"I don't know what's your personal expectations of what a magic academy should look like, but you're not only one who think that way, but even though it isn't what we imagine it's still enough, hey Stark I didn't really notice it the first time we met but I'm pretty sure you're a mage, I'm still a novice but I can sense mana and I can feel yours…you don't look like you're older than me, but how come you had more mana than a 4th or even some Third-Class Mage?" Lawine's astonishment was clear in her voice.
"Luck."
Lawine didn't believe my explanation and gave me a deadpan look. "Luck? Do you seriously think that I'd believe that? If luck was truly a factor for increasing your mana capacity then there would be a lot of mage in the world."
While I understand where she's coming from, however it is truly due to luck that I obtained this much mana, for meeting Frieren that's it.
Either way, it's her choice whether to believe me or not, so I just shrugged. "Believe me or not that's what happened."
Lawine rolled her eyes and then pinched her nose with a sigh. "Anyway, if you don't mind me asking, what class are you in right now? I'm currently a Sixth-Class Mage, but it wouldn't be long after I become a full-fledged mage recognized by the association which is the Fifth-Class Mage."
Hearing that from her, I couldn't be surprised because frankly I have no idea there's a rank below Third-Class, I thought it was the lowest ranking for qualifications for being a full-fledged mage.
Turns out I was mistaken or I just assumed it was, but then again my knowledge isn't complete as I never really watched the series beyond the anime.
"Actually, I was never ranked because I never participated in any association exams for a class." I answered.
To Lawine's shock. "Are you serious? What kind of backwater village did you come from for not being registered?!"
"Somewhere in the southern lands, probably a town that you never heard of." Not that I mentioned it, I never really knew the name of the town I lived in for 3 years.
Lawine was looking at me like I was some sort of rare supernatural creature from the woods.
Quickly after that, she shook her head and snapped out of it. "Whoever taught you must be seriously incompetent!"
"I'm self-taught though." I pointed at myself, which was true until very recently.
As if hearing the most ridiculous thing in the entire world, she snapped at my direction and exclaimed. "You lie!"
"I'm not lying." I can understand exactly why she would think that way, traditionally the only way to learn magic to be a mage apprentice, however the concept of being self-taught is basically something completely unthinkable nowadays.
Lawine obviously didn't believe in my bullshit, or what she thinks of it.
There's nothing I could do to change her mind, not that I care about it in the first place, to me magic is a tool to help me become more powerful and for a higher chance of survival.
While I do think it's fun, and fascinating to learn magic, however that is just the side benefits of its practical use.
"Whatever, despite your lies (it's really not..), however the fact that you haven't participated in any form of exam given by the association, I would recommend you to take the exam tomorrow, although if you're confident for the Third-Class Mage exam then you should wait next week for the exam to be held, because anything above Fifth-Class Mage needed some serious test while anything below just needed you to have a mastery over some basic spells." Lawine gave me some really useful info.
I'm not really confident of taking the Third-Class Mage exam yet, however I should take an exam tomorrow for being a Sixth-Class Mage.
As I decided what to do tomorrow, suddenly my previous companion arrived and to be clear, she was not happy.
"Stark…how could you…" She glared, she did not pout nor did she get angry, worse she was disappointed like a mother looking at her child's failure.
I raised both of my hands in the air and said. "Hey, there's nothing I could do without offending those high status people if I tried to help!"
It was mostly excuses, but hey. At least it sounds reasonable, Frieren could only sigh, then noticed the girl behind me. "This girl is…?"
"Oh, right she's- huh?" When I was about to introduce her, suddenly Lawine gasped in surprise, staring right directly at the silver haired elf.
"E-excuse me! Are you perhaps mistress Frieren, the mage of the heroes party..?!" There was a hint of excitement in her voice that could barely be contained.
Frieren looked uncomfortable by this, as if knowing that something unpleasant to her will happen the next moment. "Yes, I am…. what do you want?"
Then unexpectedly a squealing of excitement and joy came out of the girl. "Oh my goddess! M-mistress Frieren! C-can you shake my hands! It would be my greatest dream to be able to shake hands with the mage of the hero Himmel party!"
I stared at her shock at this unexpected reaction, because it's the last thing I expected her to do, this wasn't her reaction in the series at all!
Did her personality change somehow..?

Author Notes: You know, people especially the mages of this world would have muted reaction after meeting Frieren who was supposed to have inspired a generation of mages, that's why I wrote Lawine to react like this to show the appreciation toward Frieren status as a hero and fame, even though she herself dislike it.
