"Shanks, the captain doesn't have time, but I do. Think about it. Learn from me for a while. Buggy's here too. If you miss this chance, Buggy will be training with me, and he'll become strong. Don't cry when that happens, okay?"
A glint of mischief flashed in Rayleigh's eyes. He was using Buggy to goad Shanks. To be honest, he wanted to teach both of them. He wanted them to improve their strength during this time so they could defend themselves on the seas later.
"What are you talking about, Rayleigh-san? Buggy? He'll have to train for ten or twenty years before he can even fight me on equal terms. He'll never beat me in his life."
After a moment of thought, Shanks said, "Alright, Rayleigh-san, I'll learn from you too."
Shanks was clearly skeptical about Buggy beating him. He readily accepted Rayleigh's offer. He wasn't against learning from Rayleigh-san. He didn't want to be alone for now, and he wasn't old enough to set sail yet. His strength was also lacking. Training with Buggy and Rayleigh-san was a good option.
Roger, standing nearby, said with a smile, "Shanks, I believe in you. You'll never be surpassed by Buggy. But you have to study hard, okay? Don't let him actually surpass you. The captain will laugh at you then." Roger loved adding fuel to the fire.
After saying this, Roger gestured to Buggy, who was not far away, to come over. Buggy immediately walked over.
When he got close, Roger repeated what Shanks had said about Buggy not being able to surpass him.
"Shanks, you just wait. I'm going to study hard. In a year, you'll be under my feet. Humph." Buggy raised his head high and looked away, not even bothering to look at Shanks.
Seeing Buggy's reaction, Roger and Rayleigh both smiled. They needed this effect. Competition would help them grow. Shanks, meanwhile, looked disdainful and stood there striking a pose, saying nothing.
That settled that. Buggy and Shanks were both going to train under Rayleigh.
Time flew by. A few days passed in a blink of an eye. The time for parting had come. Roger planned to disembark first in a sea without any Marines.
He found a small island and, after saying goodbye, disembarked with the large amount of medicine that Crocus had prepared for him.
After Roger left, no one cried. Instead, they smiled, and the moisture in the air turned into tears that rolled down their cheeks. After all, the Pirate King's crew didn't cry.
The second to disembark was Kozuki Oden. No one cried.
Over the next few days, the crew members disembarked one by one at their designated locations.
Soon, they reached the Sabaody Archipelago. There were only a few people left on the ship. They decided to disembark here. If they continued on the Oro Jackson without any strong figures on board, the risk would be too high. Rayleigh was also going to disembark at Sabaody. They decided to all get off here and find their own ships to return to their respective destinations.
They found a secluded spot and lit a large fire, setting the Oro Jackson ablaze. This was something they had discussed with the captain beforehand, and it was his final decision.
They would never sail on her again. They couldn't let the ship that carried their dreams slowly decay in the river of time. That would be a desecration. So, they decided to give her the most glorious ending at her peak, a fitting tribute to the ship that had accompanied them for so long.
Although they all felt a deep sense of loss, it was the best option.
They smiled and bid farewell to the Oro Jackson, reluctantly waving their torches as they set the entire ship aflame.
As the flames rose, their smiles grew wider. The moisture in the air turned into tears that rolled down their cheeks. Watching the Oro Jackson engulfed in flames, they felt a vague sense of a giant phantom bidding them farewell.
The final farewell was the most painful. It marked the end of everything. This time, they didn't cry. Again, the moisture in the air turned into tears that rolled down their cheeks.
After parting ways, Rayleigh, Buggy, and Shanks headed towards Sabaody Archipelago's 13th region. Soon, the three of them arrived outside a bar. The entire building was made of wood, with a sign above the front door that read "Shakky's Rif-Off Bar."
Seeing the familiar name, Buggy knew where they were. As he expected, Rayleigh had come to Sabaody to find Shakky.
"Once you're inside, don't say anything stupid. That woman in there is very fierce."
Before entering, Rayleigh warned Buggy and Shanks. Shakky was someone even he didn't dare to provoke. If she got angry, Rayleigh wouldn't be able to defend them. After all, he had come to seek her out.
As they entered, Buggy and Shanks saw a beautiful young woman with a stunning figure staring motionlessly at the person who had just walked in.
Who was she looking at? Rayleigh, of course. Buggy and Shanks saw the two of them staring at each other. They were standing to the side, involuntarily taking a bite of dog food.
They stared at each other for a long time before returning to normal.
"Hey, you deadbeat, you didn't bring your two sons to see me, did you? This old lady will kill you." Shakky glared angrily at Rayleigh.
"Heh, where did I get sons? These two brats are our crew members. They're here to train with me for a while. They'll be gone after a while."
Rayleigh looked a little embarrassed, even a little ashamed. After Shakky's words, he immediately gave this answer, afraid of any misunderstanding. His expression was completely unlike the legendary right hand of the Pirate King, the Dark King Rayleigh. He looked more like a shy teenager.
If the other crew members saw his expression, they would be incredulous and laugh at him mercilessly.
"Yeah, yeah, Aunty, we're not Rayleigh-san's sons. We're here to learn from Rayleigh-san for a while. We'll leave after we're done."
Buggy spoke up. He knew the relationship between the two. Now that they needed Rayleigh's help, he had to speak up for him. He couldn't let Shakky misunderstand. Otherwise, their relationship would be ruined, and Rayleigh wouldn't have the heart to teach them. He might even leave this place of sorrow.
Rayleigh gave Buggy a thumbs-up.
"Kid, what do you mean 'Aunty'? Call me 'Sister'. Do I look that old?" Age was every woman's bottom line. Shakky wouldn't admit to being called "Aunty".
"Sister, sister, I misspoke. I was just worried about Rayleigh-san's business and said the wrong thing. You're so young. How could you be an 'Aunty'?"
Buggy knew that he couldn't argue with her about the title. Otherwise, the consequences might be more than he could handle.
"That's better. Come sit down." Shakky smiled.
