บท 17: Captured
After Viktor announced that they were surrounded, Raven and Professor Jones were stunned and said , " What?!"
Viktor replied, " Yep. We got people all around us, but it doesn't seem they realize this yet. "
Viktor then pointed to the right, " Based on what I can sense, the people in this direction are weaker, so we can make a break through in this direction. Since they can't track us via the vivre card, we should be fine as long as we can get past these people."
Raven then asked with fear in her voice, " OK, but where do we go after we lose them? Back home? What's stopping them from simply attacking the island itself with all its inhabitants. There's no military presence here."
Professor Jones replied, " Well, this island is technically directly under the world government's authority, so blatantly attacking this island and its citizens would be stupid, suicidal even. "
Viktor agreed, " Exactly. In fact, I never thought they'd dare to come here at all. I mean there's a reason the matron was planning on handing us off on another island."
Raven then relaxed a bit, " OK, so we just get through these guys and we're home free. Can we get past them?"
Viktor replied, " I don't sense any major threat from them, so we should be fine. I should be able to make quick work of them with these pistols. Thankfully, we left their captain back with the matron's dead body, so he shouldn't be able to track us."
Then the three of them attacked the pirates that stood between them and freedom. Viktor started the attack by shooting them, prioritizing those with guns.
Raven and Professor Jones attacked those with swords. Professor Jones was able to make quick work of his opponent, while Raven struggled a bit.
While Raven was physically stronger, she had far less combat experience than her opponent. In fact this was her very first time in a life and death battle. Her previous combat experience was just sparring with Viktor, so fear started to creep in.
Sensing her fear, her opponent mocked her, " Give it up little girl. What chance do you have against a full grown adult like me. Hee hehe. In fact, a cute girl like you is worth quite the bit of money."
The pirate grinned maliciously, " Just imagine it. I'll be rich while you'll be a nobles plaything. And I can garuntee you'll be quite the plaything. Ha ha ha haha. In fact, if it wouldn't bring down your price, I'd have a go at you myself. Ha ha ha ha ha!"
The pirate's words caused Raven to momentarily flashback to that harrowing memory of her moms passing. However, instead of causing her misery like her opponent wanted, it sent her into a rage.
Seeing this, Viktor thought, ' Welp, I was going to help her, but it seems she's got this. In fact, she'd probably be pissed at me if I took away her prey. '
Viktor then shuddered, " I almost feel sorry for the guy. He just had to mention slavery to her. He might've stood a chance if he didn't."
Raven's fear was thrown into the back of her mind as her rage took over. She then let out a sadistic grin and told the pirate, " Oh, it seems you're a naughty boy, trying to sell a cute little girl like me into slavery. And do you know what I do to naughty boys? "
Caught off guard by her sudden change, the pirates stammered, " What?"
Raven replied, " I punish them." She then proceeded to attack with renewed ferocity, eventually disarming her opponent. She then preceded to cut all of his limbs off. This included the all important fifth limb of a man.
While he was screaming in pain and bleeding out, she whispered in his ear, " See, bad boys will be punished. Enjoy your punishment while you die slowly."
She then left her opponent and found that the boys had defeated the rest of the pirates. She then joined them in running back home.
Viktor congratulated her, " Hey Raven, congrats on winning your first fight. You certainly left him in a precarious position, to say the least. "
Raven beamed a smile at him, " Yep, I finally punished my first bad boy. I can't wait to punish even more. "
Professor Jones then said with concern, " Are you ok Raven? I know you seem happy about it, which is kind of concerning, but you did just take another human's life. "
Raven then looked at him in bewilderment, " What are you talking about? He was a slave trader. You can't equate him to a human being. He was just trash and I treated him as such. "
Viktor added, " Professor Jones, you should understand us by now. For those that try to kill us or worse, they deserve no mercy. Our priority is survival."
Professor Jones replied, " But they're still-"
Viktor interrupted, " Like I said, in this world, strength is all that matters and I value our survival above all else. Don't worry about us turning into monsters. The line for us is innocent civilians. We won't attack if they don't attack. "
Raven nodded in agreement and Professor Jones sighed, " All right. But I'm watching you guys. "
However, Viktor then sensed something approaching them as breakneck pace. It was the pirate captain he thought they ditched. He was dumbfounded. ' How'd he track us' Viktor thought.
Viktor then told Raven and Professor Jones to speed up, but they couldn't get away fast enough and the captain caught up to them. It turns out he was a devil fruit user. More specifically, he ate the Dog-Dog Fruit, Model: German Shepard.
The captain then changed to his hybrid form and said, " Finally caught up to you pests. Are you the ones who killed my contact, the matron? Oh, who am I kidding, I can smell her blood on you. You're going to pay for that! Only by selling you guys can I recoup my losses. "
Viktor then told Raven and Professor Jones. " Run! I can't defend myself and you guys. "
Raven said, " We can't just leave you to fend for yourself! Let's help him ProfessorJones!"
Professor Jones then put his hand on her shoulder, " Like he said, we'd just be in the way. Only by escaping can we get the help he needs. "
Raven reluctantly agreed, " OK, don't die on me, alright? "
Viktor said, " Cmon Raven, you should know by now I won't die so easily. Alright, now, where were we, mutt? "
Professor Jones and Raven then ran away and the captain didn't chase them. The captain said, " I was in the process of giving you the ass whooping you deserve. By the way, do you really think they can escape?"
Then Viktor sensed pirates coming from all sides, including the side that Raven and Professor Jones escaped to. They were about to clash. Viktor exclaimed, " I get how you found us, but how'd all your men follow us as well? "
The captain just smirked, " Guess."
Viktor thought about it for a second and it finally dawned on him, " Shit! You have a vivre card and your men followed it to us."
The captain smirked, " Bingo! Seems your pretty smart, which means you'll be worth more. Lucky me. "
The captain then attacked Viktor with his claws. Although Viktor was able to predict his moves, his reaction time simply couldn't keep up. While Viktor's doriki value is about 30, the captains was over 500, an almost insurmountable gap.
It only took a minute of clashing for Viktor's stamina to drop dangerously low. He tried a risky move and accepted one of the captains claw attacks. He suprisingly managed to stab the captain. Unfortunately, the place he stabbed the captain wasn't a vital area, so the captain could keep fighting.
After this move, Viktor was incapacitated and the captain then injected him with a knockout drug. While he was losing consciousness, Viktor thought, 'At least I managed to buy some time for Raven and Professor Jones to escape. '
Unfortunately, this wish didn't come true as the unconscious bodies of both Raven and Professor Jones appeared, being carried by some of the pirates. It turns out the pirates simply used some knockout gas and wore gas masks for protection.
The last thing Viktor heard before losing consciousness was, " If you're thinking that you at least bought time for your friends to escape, well you failed. Your friends will be joining you in slavery."
