บท 104: Chapter 105: New Marines??

In the sea near the Navy's G2 base, a massive naval warship cut through the waves at full speed, heading straight for the base!

Standing at the bow, Akainu's face was as dark as stormy waters.

Not long ago, he had received an urgent communication from Kadar, the deputy head of G2 Base, reporting an attack by pirates and requesting immediate reinforcements. However, before Kadar could provide more details, the transmission was abruptly cut off.

There was no need to guess; the G2 base had already fallen to those damned pirates!

"Damn it! Faster!" Akainu roared angrily at the surrounding sailors, his fury almost palpable.

Initially, after hearing the news that Shanks had officially taken office as the Fleet Admiral, Akainu had already felt a blaze of anger in his chest. And now, learning that a group of pirates dared to openly attack a naval base—it was like pouring oil on that fire, giving him a perfect outlet for his rage!

"Admiral Akainu, don't worry," said Vice Admiral Doberman, his face crisscrossed with deep scars. "We're not far from G2. There's no way those pirates can escape!"

Next to him, Vice Admiral Onigumo, a cigarette between his fingers, exhaled a puff of smoke and added, "I always thought there'd be pirates foolish enough to try something like this, but I didn't expect they'd be bold enough to attack a naval base directly!"

"This time, we have to annihilate them completely. If we let even one escape, it'll only embolden the rest!"

Akainu was silent for a moment before speaking decisively: "Once we've dealt with the pirates who attacked G2, the two of you will each take your units to one of the seven routes in the first half of the Grand Line. Recruit new troops on-site and eradicate any pirates you come across!"

The first half of the Grand Line was primarily inhabited by those who hadn't even mastered Haki. A Vice Admiral of the Navy Headquarters was unquestionably the peak of combat strength there and could easily crush any pirate crew along the way!

Vice Admirals Doberman and Onigumo nodded in agreement, having no objections to Akainu's orders.

The only issue was that they had brought too few troops from Navy Headquarters to man all three large warships properly. Otherwise, they would have already split their forces.

Fortunately, the G2 base had plenty of small and medium-sized warships. After resupplying there, they could divide their forces and carry out Akainu's strategy!

After a long silence, Vice Admiral Doberman suddenly spoke up, "By the way, Admiral Akainu, have you heard the news? Yesterday, Mr. Zephyr returned to Navy Headquarters with his 'Pirate Guerrillas.'"

Akainu frowned and turned his gaze towards Vice Admiral Doberman, waiting for him to continue.

Since learning that Shanks had officially become a Fleet Admiral, Akainu had cut off all contact with Navy Headquarters. He didn't want to get involved in their affairs, so he genuinely hadn't known that Zephyr had returned.

Vice Admiral Doberman chose his words carefully and explained, "Mr. Zephyr was extremely dissatisfied with the fact that Red-Haired Shanks, once a pirate, is now the Fleet Admiral of the Navy. He ended up in a huge argument with Vice Admiral Tsuru and the others before leaving in anger."

Hearing this, Akainu's eyes showed a fleeting trace of melancholy as he murmured, "It seems that Mr. Zephyr is quite disappointed with the current state of the Navy."

Vice Admiral Onigumo sighed lightly and said, "The original Teacher Zephyr was a Admiral known for his benevolence and righteousness. If not for those two tragedies, he would have retired peacefully long ago."

After Onigumo finished speaking, the three of them fell silent once more.

To Zephyr's former students, along with their respect, they also harbored a deep sense of injustice on his behalf. This wasn't the fate an honorable man like Zephyr deserved!

After a long pause, Vice Admiral Doberman broke the silence again, "Before leaving Navy Headquarters yesterday, Mr. Zephyr left behind a statement: he plans to leave the Navy and establish a new force of his own!"

Akainu was taken aback, then his brow furrowed deeply.

Vice Admiral Onigumo, who had already heard this news, added, "Mr. Zephyr founded the Pirate Guerrillas a few years ago, and thanks to his extensive connections, they've been developing remarkably well."

"Whether it's equipment, soldiers, artillery, warships, or supplies, the Pirate Guerrillas are now one of the most formidable forces within the Navy."

"They're even equipped with the latest humanoid weapon, the 'Pacifista,' which shows just how well-resourced they are!"

Akainu picked up on a hidden implication in Onigumo's words and asked with a frown, "What exactly are you suggesting?"

Vice Admiral Onigumo hesitated for a moment, then spoke slowly, "The current Pirate Guerrillas already have the manpower, the equipment, and Mr. Zephyr's reputation could attract even more members from various Marine branches."

"If some top-tier combat forces were to join Mr. Zephyr right now, he might actually be able to form a new Navy!"

Akainu's eyes flickered as he realized what Vice Admiral Onigumo and Vice Admiral Doberman were hinting at—they both wanted to break away from the existing Navy!

Akainu had indeed considered the possibility, but he didn't possess the necessary prestige yet, and now wasn't the right time to act.

Noticing Akainu's lack of rebuttal, Vice Admiral Doberman added, "More importantly, Mr. Zephyr's current stance on pirates aligns perfectly with ours — to eliminate them all!"

"Teacher Zephyr will no longer bow his head to pirates or compromise for any external reasons!"

Akainu remained silent, his emotions stirred.

Besides what Doberman mentioned, there was another crucial point.

Zephyr's health was declining rapidly, and he wasn't someone who clung to power. If Akainu chose to join forces with Zephyr, it would be without a doubt that he'd become the leader of the 'New Navy'!

Their ideologies were in sync, and Zephyr would undoubtedly do everything he could to pave the way for Akainu.

After a long period of silence, Akainu finally spoke, his voice calm yet resolute: "Let's put this matter on hold for now. The Navy can't afford to be divided at this point. We need to deal with the pirates first!"

Akainu understood clearly that the current Navy couldn't withstand any greater upheaval. A split within the organization at this juncture would only embolden the pirates and—if not handled correctly—drag the entire world into chaos!

For the sake of both public and private interests, Akainu knew he couldn't be swayed by the proposition just yet.

After a brief pause, Akainu spoke up again: "Doberman, hold on a second. Get in touch with Vice Admiral Tsuru and the others immediately. Tell them we need more resources—money, personnel, weapons, warships, supplies, everything!"

"Tell them that we're severely undermanned right now and have to start local recruitment on the spot!"

Vice Admiral Doberman was taken aback for a moment but quickly gathered himself and nodded. "Understood! I'll take care of it right away!"

Akainu then turned to Vice Admiral Onigumo. "Onigumo, contact Teacher Zephyr and inform him that we'll provide funding and materials. Have him focus on expanding his Pirate Guerrilla Team to its full potential!"

Both Vice Admiral Onigumo and Vice Admiral Doberman understood Akainu's intentions now. He planned to leverage the resources of the World Government to build his own force.

They had to admit—this strategy of Akainu's was truly cunning.

"Admiral Akainu! We have the G2 base in sight!"

At that moment, the lookout on the watchtower called out loudly.

The three people exchanged looks, exuding a terrifyingly intense killing intent.
