34.92% One of Kyle's Lives [ENG] / Chapter 22: Arc 1: Part 22

บท 22: Arc 1: Part 22

During the lunch break, Kyle went to the Literary Club. The building for the clubs was not far from the Class Building, and it was also a big one. Looking at the map of the building, Kyle found that the Literature Club was on the second floor.

Once he found it, he made a knock.

"Coming!" A voice was heard from inside. When the door opened, Kyle was greeted by a young man with glasses.

"Oh! Hello! Are you here to register?" The young man asked.

"Yes! My name is Kyle Welton! I am a freshman!" Kyle greeted with his freshman smile.

"My name is Marrick Boyle, third year! Come in!" Marrick urged Kyle to enter the room. Kyle stepped in and looked around. The room wasn't that big, and most of its space was filled with bookshelves. There was a long table in the middle of the room with eight chairs. Then there was a sofa not far from it.

"Come sit here, and this is the registration paper," Marrick said as he placed the registration paper and a pen on the long table. Kyle took a seat and read the paper. It only told him to fill in the basic information.

"Is there anyone else aside from me who comes here, Senior?" Kyle asked as he filled out the form.

"Not yet. To be honest, I don't think someone will come this early," Marrick replied with a wry smile.

Kyle nodded; he didn't think he was that early, but he guessed that people still needed time to think.

"May I ask again, Senior?"

"Ah, no need to be so formal; just call me Marrick! And please, ask away."

"Then please call me Kyle. What does the Literary Club do?" At this question, Marrick turned serious.

"We do a lot of things in the Literary Club. First of all, we read and write reviews of the books. Second, we create literature as well. Be it a story, a journal, or something else. Third, we'll discuss about those books. Fourth, we'll also go to the annual literature conference and such. In short, we have many things to do!" Marrick raised his arms up while smiling widely. Kyle was sure he had made a mistake, but he did see that Marrick's glasses were shining for a moment.

{'Well, that's not bad. Some of the activities most likely tax my cognitive abilities, but that is not bad. Anyway, there is no turning back.'} Kyle completed the registration paper and handed it to Marrick.

"So, what's next?" Kyle asked.

"The registration period is one week. Until then, we don't do much aside from recruiting the freshmen, so you don't have to come until next week," Marrick explained.

"I see." Kyle nodded. "I'll be taking my leave then. I have something to do."

"Sure! And thank you for joining our club!" Marrick stood up, followed Kyle, and extended his hand.

"Likewise, thank you for accepting me." Kyle smiled and shook Marrick's hand. He then left the club and headed to his class.

.....

After school, Class Three had once again gathered for a meeting. This meeting also included selecting Class Three's student body.

"So everyone agrees for Eric to be the President?" Bianca asked her classmates. There was no opposition to Eric's taking up the responsibility. With how he acted last week, everyone believed he deserved the position.

"Next for the Vice President, who shall it be?" Upon this question, Eric raised his hand.

"May I choose my own Vice President?" Bianca nodded at Eric's question. "Then I would like Kyle to have the position of Vice President."

"What?!" Kyle quickly sprang to his feet. He looked at Eric in disbelief. "What's the reason?!"

Eric smiled and replied, "Kyle, I and most likely the others agree that you did a lot of a great job. Your ability to sense others, your words, and your role in maintaining relationships all exist in the shadows. Those qualifications are what made me choose you."

"No!" Kyle, with an upset expression, denied it, saying, "I refuse to be a Vice President! I'd like to be a normal student!"

Everyone remained silent as they waited for Kyle to unleash his frustration. Once he became quiet, Eric waved his hand to Bianca.

"Does anyone agree?" Everyone raised their hands.

"What?! No! Listen to me, for God's sake! I have the right to voice my opinion!" Unfortunately, Kyle's protest and wail were ignored, and everyone went to continue the meeting.

In the end, it was decided that Eric become the President, Kyle as the Vice President, Bianca as the Secretary, and Monica as the Treasurer. With Class Three having their student body, the meeting continued with the discussion on the battle between Classes Two and Seven.

"The battle will take place on Wednesday of the following week. It is a big event, and everyone will be watching, including our seniors," Eric told his classmates. "This means the winners will be known through the Academy. Our strategy is for Leonhart and Ferlando to lose, while Joshua wins. It will completely destabilize the equilibrium in Class Two."

"Kyle," Eric called Kyle, who had lost his spirit and had laid his head on the table. "How was Joshua's progress?" He continued, but Kyle didn't answer but instead pointed at Ninia, then his pointed hand fell down lifelessly.

Looking at Kyle, Ninia sighed and answered Eric's question. "Joshua has made good progress. If he were to fight in a condition without magic, I believe he could win 80% while ignoring his opponent's ability."

"That's high, but why without magic? Is he really that bad?"

Ninia shook her head. "On the contrary, yet when compared to people like Leonhart and others, he falls short. Depending on the magic used by his opponent, his chances of victory will be around 40%. If his opponent is also a close combatant, his chances of winning are close to 70%."

"As long as he has a chance of winning," Eric said. "Besides, his training has not yet ended. He may have a better chance by the time the battle begins," Eric prayed that would be the case. If Joshua lost, then everything might fall apart. However, there might be a chance if all of Class Two were to be defeated. If that happened, then Joshua wouldn't live with a big disappointment. But instead, the entire class would shoulder it. On the other hand, it would highlight the strength of Class Seven to a greater degree.

"While we wait for the fight, I'd like us to get closer to our seniors through the clubs. We need information from them and, if possible, experience as well, to know what we will face in the future," Eric set a new task for everyone.

"Also, if possible, tonight, I would like us to practice together for Friday and share our experience," Eric realized he needed to get everyone, or at least the majority of them, on the same page. As a leader, he hoped that all of his classmates would get good scores and that none of them would fail.
