How are you all doing? It's been a while... Last Tuesday was the 30th day after my twin's death, so he finally has a gravestone. Well, a temporary one since the name of the war isn't decided yet.
We did a small gathering of family and friends to share stories and finally read something he left us. Luckily, when the mortar shell hit him, his phone wasn't on him so we got it. Apparently he had a lot of notes on his phone, including something for us in case he died.
It was hard reading it, especially publicly, but I'm glad I did.
All in all though, his death didn't really leave me with grief and sadness, more like happiness about what was and a renewed drive forward. Though my therapist says the negative stuff will come to the surface in drops sooner or later. Kinda depressing...
I also returned to the military. I was at home for two weeks and damn near ripped my hairs out. One week is a Jewish tradition to sit with guests and kinda process the death, and the second was out of circumstances.
It was some fucked up timing that we buried him on the holocaust memorial day, and a week later was the actual memorial day.
I missed the work, it's so good to be back. Now I finally feel relevant again, and I'm happy about it.
However, like the title says, now I've got so much stuff going on. My family situation is complicated to say the least, I began therapy, I have military shit going on, the DMV is on my back for some stupid reason, and a lot of social workers and organizations are involved with me now since I'm a bereaved twin.
On the good side, I have a lot more material for the novel/fanfic I'll write after this war. It's either gonna be a cyberpunk fanfic or an original futuristic novel. I don't know yet. In any case, I want to put these experiences to good use. And I have so much to write about. Might be interesting for you guys to get a little insight from a fresh war vet assuming I'll still be alive.
Oh, and one last thing. Your comments on the previous chapter really helped me, so I want to sincerely thank you once again.
Well, that's all for now, see you next time!
