บท 92: Chapter 92: The Ōtsutsuki on the Moon
The remnants of the Ōtsutsuki on the moon believed that the world created by the Sage of Six Paths had failed.
To them, a failed world should follow the destiny set by their ancestor, Hamura: destruction, followed by recreation using the power of the Tenseigan.
However, though the lunar Ōtsutsuki clan possessed the Giant Tenseigan, they lacked the power to enact their interpretation of Hamura's will. Their diluted bloodline allowed them only partial access to its power, never unlocking its full potential—until a boy named Ōtsutsuki Toneri was born.
Toneri's pure lineage rekindled hope among the lunar Ōtsutsuki. If the boy were to receive a pair of suitable Byakugan, he could awaken the Tenseigan and use its power to fulfill Hamura's decree.
Determined, the lunar Ōtsutsuki began secretly observing the Hyūga clan on Earth, seeking an ideal candidate. The Hyūga clan remained unaware that their every secret had been laid bare to the watchers from the moon. After careful scrutiny, the lunar Ōtsutsuki identified their target: Hinata Hyūga, the newborn daughter of the Hyūga clan head.
Now, as someone else tried to abduct Hinata, the Ōtsutsuki in hiding decided to act. Their Byakugan was at stake—they couldn't let anyone else take it.
"Interesting," mused Uchiha Akira, the corners of his mouth curling into a sly grin beneath his mask.
"I hadn't expected the Ōtsutsuki on the moon to pay this much attention to Earth, let alone the Hyūga clan..."
As a three-way confrontation seemed imminent, Akira casually tossed the baby he held into the air before vanishing entirely. His goals had been achieved: securing Hinata's tissue samples and exposing Akatsuki's intentions.
Hiashi reacted instantly, using the Body Flicker Technique to catch his daughter. He quickly returned to Hiruzen Sarutobi's side, cradling the now-sleeping Hinata. A weight lifted from Hiashi's heart—his clan's precious Kekkei Genkai had not been stolen.
Hiruzen, too, felt a momentary relief before turning his gaze to the mysterious Ōtsutsuki, who hovered in the air.
"Who are you?" he demanded, his voice stern.
The elderly figure, standing atop a cart-like platform, showed no intention of replying. Though blind, he seemed fully aware of the events unfolding. Realizing Hinata had been rescued, he wordlessly drove his platform away at speed, leaving no room for negotiation.
Hiruzen's expression darkened as he watched the Ōtsutsuki retreat.
"They come and go as they please, ignoring Konoha entirely. Has our village's security truly fallen this low? Our shinobi failed to detect even a trace of their presence." His voice was heavy with frustration and anger.
He turned to Hiashi. "Do you know who they are?"
Hiashi's gaze lingered on the distant speck of the retreating Ōtsutsuki. After a long silence, he shook his head.
"Hokage-sama, I truly don't know."
Hiruzen's eyes narrowed. "You don't know? Then why did they appear at that precise moment, clearly intending to thwart Madara's actions? There must be a connection to the Hyūga."
Hiashi felt a bead of sweat slide down his temple as Hiruzen's sharp gaze bore into him.
"I assure you, Hokage-sama, I have no idea who they are or their purpose here," he replied, maintaining his composure with effort.
Hiruzen stared at Hiashi for another moment before relenting. "Fine. Investigate this matter thoroughly. There must be some link between the Hyūga and these intruders. Report your findings to me."
With that, Hiruzen departed, his Anbu escort following closely behind.
Hiashi exhaled deeply, his cold gaze shifting to Kaori, who had just shaken off a genjutsu. As Hinata's maid and bodyguard, Kaori had failed spectacularly, allowing the child to nearly be abducted. Her failure would not go unpunished.
Sensing Hiashi's icy glare, Kaori lowered her head, her body trembling.
Despite knowing it wasn't entirely her fault, Hiashi couldn't suppress the fury rising within him.
The sound of approaching footsteps drew his attention. The rest of the Hyūga's main family, who had been observing from afar, finally dared to emerge now that the danger had passed.
"Hiashi, what happened here?" demanded Hyūga Daike, an elder of a branch within the main family.
"It's been dealt with," Hiashi replied curtly. "The intruders are gone."
"And Hinata?" asked Hyūga Aya, another elder.
"She's fine, just a minor injury." Hiashi's tone was even, but his pale eyes betrayed a glint of anger.
He had seen it clearly: Uchiha Madara had taken a sample of Hinata's tissue.
At that moment, a scream of agony pierced the air.
Kaori was writhing on the ground, clutching her head, her screams echoing through the courtyard. A middle-aged elder from the main family, his hands forming the seal to activate the Caged Bird curse mark, stared coldly at the woman.
"Useless trash!" he spat. "If anything had happened to Lady Hinata, even death would be too lenient a punishment for you!"
The elder then turned his gaze to the gathered branch family members.
"Don't think we're unaware of your hidden thoughts. This is the price of disobedience."
With another hand seal, the branch family members collapsed one after another, clutching their heads in agony.
The other main family members looked on impassively, some even wearing expressions of satisfaction.
Not one of them moved to intervene—not even Hiashi.
Among those writhing in pain was his own younger brother, Hizashi.
