บท 29: Chapter 29 - Mikumo's day off
The day after Mikumo made her first kill, she was now undergoing mandatory rest. Ayane had informed her parents about the incident, and although they were worried, she assured them everything was okay. However, since there were signs of heavy chakra exhaustion, Ayane recommended that Mikumo relaxes for a few days before returning to the academy. The biggest reliever for Mikumo's parents was that Ayane was now assigned as her permanent bodyguard/ninja maid. She moved into the house as well, taking up residence in their spare guest room.
So, now Mikumo was lying in her bed, bored out of her mind.
'Darn Ayane, I can't believe she would betray me like this. Mom banned me from training and to ensure I actually rested properly, I'm now trapped here. I tried to get revenge by treating her as my gopher but she didn't mind at all...'
Mikumo turned over in her bed and stared outside the window. The temptation proved too strong to hold back.
'Screw it, if I have to lay here for a minute longer I'm going to die of boredom! I need to go for a walk.'
Mikumo got up from her bed and started taking off her bed clothes to get into something more appropriate for outdoor activity. Mikumo heard footsteps coming up the stairs and hurriedly stripped her clothes off quietly, not wanting to get caught sneaking by her mom or Ayane.
However, suddenly the door to her room opened just as she was taking off her panties.
"Hey, are you alr-"
Mikumo turned her head to look at the intruder to her room.
The intruder in question froze instantly upon opening the door. With a head full of silver hair and a face mask, it was Mikumo's proclaimed little brother, Kakashi.
Kakashi didn't know what to do. Time seemed to freeze as he saw Mikumo, whose hands were both on her panties, half removed already, giving him a view of her butt. Her top was completely nude, although her back was turned to him, he had a full view of her side profile.
Mikumo froze because she thought she was able to be caught trying to escape by her mother. However, realizing that it was Kakashi, time began to move again.
"Oh, it's just you, Kakashi. I thought it was my mom."
Mikumo breathed a sigh of relief and then turned to face Kakashi. However, just when she did, she finally realized the current state of her attire, but it was too late, as she had already turned, revealing to Kakashi what little she still had left to hide.
Mikumo blushed brightly in embarrassment and moved her hands to hide her most sensitive parts.
"H-how long are you going to stare?"
"!!"
Kakashi's ears turned bright red as he slammed the door closed.
Mikumo silently calmed herself down as she put on some casual outdoor clothes.
'What the hell? Is he a romcom protagonist or what? Why did I get so embarrassed? I barely wore anything when we trained together by the river. I've been noticing that my body is developing faster than normal kids ever since I started training my chakra, it must be affecting my hormones as well.'
Mikumo sighed and then walked to her door. Upon opening the door, she saw Kakashi standing outside leaning against the wall.
"Uhh..."
Kakashi tried to apologize but as soon as he saw Mikumo again, he was reminded of the scene he has just seen and couldn't form any words.
Mikumo sensed the awkward atmosphere and sighed.
"It's okay, just, forget what you saw, and let's go. I'm tired of being cooped up in my room."
Kakashi scratched his head and nodded, not saying more.
Mikumo headed downstairs flanked by Kakashi, for some reason she was more conscious of his gaze compared to before.
Upon reaching the first floor of the house, Mikumo saw her mother through the opened back door, watering the plants.
"Mom! I'm going out for a walk!"
Toka turned and saw her daughter dressed for the outside and put down her watering can.
"Are you sure? How's your body?"
Mikumo patted herself on the chest and grinned.
"I'm fine! I'm just going for a walk. I need to move my body and get the blood circulating to heal faster anyway, I won't do anything straining, promise. Kakashi will watch me."
After hearing her daughter's reason, Toka nodded worriedly and turned her gaze over to Kakashi.
"Please watch over her for me, Kakashi."
"Yes, auntie."
Toka smiled and then patted the boy on the head, after which she returned to taking care of her plants.
Mikumo breathed a sigh of relief and then walked to the front of her house to put on her shoes. Mikumo could still feel Kakashi's awkward gaze on her as she did.
Mikumo sighed once more and turned to look at Kakashi, who avoided her eyes.
"I alright said it's fine, don't be so awkward, it's uncomfortable. So what if you saw me naked, it's not the end of the world."
"Oh, is that so, Kakashi-sama?"
Mikumo and Kakashi both raised an eyebrow, as they heard the voice of a third person come from behind them. Turning around, they saw Ayane standing there dressed in a kimono with her arms crossed.
Kakashi started sweating under the pressure of Ayane's stare.
"Uhh...I'm sorry..."
Mikumo finished putting on her shoes and stood up, snickering inwards at Kakashi's predicament.
"Hey, no bullying my little brother! Only I can bully him."
"I apologize, Mikumo-sama."
Ayane bowed slightly, however, even as she did, she never released the pressure of her gaze from Kakashi.
Mikumo chuckled and then pulled Kakashi by the arm as she opened the front door.
"Alright, that's enough, I'm going out for a walk. You can follow if you want, or help out my mom around the house."
"Understood, Mikumo-sama."
Ayane shunshin'd out of sight. Mikumo knew that Ayane would follow her and guard her from the shadows. Although she wasn't used to being escorted, she accepted it since right now is a sensitive time.
'Ah well, you never know when Danzo might decide to strike again. I need more allies who can do things for me like Ayane. I have a few candidates in mind, such as the future orphanage director Nono Yakushi and Kabuto, but I walked by the orphanage already and didn't see Nono, so there's no way Kabuto would be there yet.'
Mikumo sighed internally and then exited her house with Kakashi in tow.
