It took five hours for the scene to be processed after Batman had called Commissioner Gordon. Several of the crime scene detectives had needed to leave the room the moment they saw all the bodies of both the cultist and their victims. No one questioned their story about what had happened and after talking to Gordon they both returned to the Batcave.
The moment they were in Barbara took off her mask, her face slightly pale now that it was over and the events of the night hit her. She didn't even acknowledge Alfred as she passed him, just sat on her chair in front of the large computer and thought about what had happened. When he saw the look his oldest friend was sending him, Bruce pulled out a memory stick from his pocket and placed it in a slot.
While he was in the rafters of the 'church' Bruce had planted a camera overlooking the entire room. He watched both the video as it came on the screen and Alfred at the same time, knowing that his butler had severed in the army in his youth and had seen a lot of things, his input was important, especially when it came to Naruto Uzumaki.
When the video had run through, he paused it and enlarged the image of the blonde teen's masked face, before turning to Alfred and waiting for his assessment.
"Who is that young man, Master Bruce, and how old is he?"
"His name is Naruto Uzumaki, and he's sixteen."
Nodding his head, the elderly butler turned to look at the two crime fighters with a mixture of sadness and worry.
"From what I have seen from the video, that boy is without a doubt a child solider. He was quick and efficient, no move was wasted and most importantly he was completely unaffected by what was happening around him. May I see the card he gave you?"
Handing over the card Bruce watched as Alfred spent about two minutes studding it from every angle before nodding his head.
"As I thought, this number is probably a direct line he uses for dealing with cases like the one you just encountered, though I am not sure what this marking is on the back of the card."
When he got the card back Bruce looked at the back of the card to see a strange design covering it, before scanning it into his computer to run a search on it. Leaving it to do the search, Bruce took a moment to think about everything that he had seen before turn back to the computer and calling Robin. When they saw what he was doing Barbara quickly put her mask back on while Alfred walked to the side so he would be out of the cameras range.
Unlike the last time they had called him, Robin wasn't surprised to see them.
"What is it now Bruce?"
"Call your teammate, Raven, I need to ask her a few questions about Naruto."
Frowning, the boy wonder pulled out his communicator and did as asked, and when he was done turned back to the screen with the frown still in place.
"She isn't going to tell you anything, believe me, and if you press to hard she'll just tell you to fuck off."
Nodding in understanding, the three sat in silence as they waited for the dark Titan to arrive.
"This better be good Robin, because of your new training plan I haven't being able to meditate for two weeks, my powers are on a hairline trigger."
When she came into view on the screen both Bruce and Barbara saw the large frown on the grey skinned teens face. They also didn't miss the fact that when she turned to look at them her eyes narrowed and a lamb in the background exploded.
"What did he do now?"
Leaning forward and resting his chin on his laced fingers, the dark knight decided to get straight to the point.
"How much do you know about Naruto's past?"
"Enough"
"Are you aware that he is a trained solider?"
"..."
Her silence answered the question, but before he could ask his next one they were interrupted by Robin, who had turned to his friend with a frown on his face.
"You knew this and didn't tell anyone?"
"...It wasn't for me to tell."
Although he didn't look happy about it, Robin nodded his head and let them talk, a small frown on his lips.
"What can you tell me about a book, I'm sure I don't need to go into more detail?"
"Only what Naruto told us, that knowledge is power and when that power is written down it creates problems. The books he has been collecting are books that contain ancient spells that could be dangerous in the wrong hands; some of them are even self-aware and can control people's minds to make them use them. Naruto is one of the few people that can't actually use them because he can't use magic."
"If they are so dangerous, why not destroy them."
This time it was Robin who answered the question.
"We ask him that to when we first found out. Apparently they would just 'reform' somewhere else in the world, that's why he collects them and locks them up."
Taking a moment to think over what they had told him, Bruce nodded before looking back at them with a serious look in his eyes.
"I may be in contact again at a later date, but until then goodbye."
Cutting the connection, Bruce let out a long sigh before pulling his mask off and rubbing the back of his neck to get the stiffness out.
"Are you going to talk to the League about this? If these books are as dangerous as they say they should be under its protection."
Turning to look at Barbara out of the corner of his eye, Bruce frowned as he thought over what she said.
"I am going to tell them, but I don't agree that they should be under the Leagues protection. If he is one of the only people in the world that can't use or be used by them then he is the best qualified to protect them."
