บท 2: The Crossing
Deep in the Land of Fire, hidden among the trees, there was a secret entrance to a long-forgotten underground laboratory. This lab was once used by the infamous Sannin Orochimaru, who used it to experiment with the fusion of two cells. One cell came from the legendary First Hokage, and the other came from a mutated chakra beast that Senju Tobirama had once encountered.
Tobirama had documented the beast to be humanoid in shape, with exaggerated muscles and skin as dark as the night. The creature possessed incredible speed, unmatched durability, and a regenerative factor that could heal even the most grievous of injuries with natural energy alone, without the use of any chakra techniques.
The beast had appeared at the end of the warring states period, wreaking havoc on the land until it was ultimately defeated by the combined efforts of Senju Hashirama and Uzumaki Mito. Using their respective powers of wood style and the Nine-Tailed Fox, they had managed to seal away the last remains of the creature's body for Tobirama to study.
Orochimaru had stumbled upon records of the legendary battle between the First Hokage and the chakra beast, along with research notes and tissue samples left behind by the Second Hokage. Intrigued by the beast's regenerative abilities, Orochimaru had set up a secret laboratory to study and attempt to replicate these effects. He had also been secretly working with Hokage advisor and ROOT leader Danzo on the First Hokage's cells but had little success due to their corrosive effect.
In his attempts to replicate the beast's powers, Orochimaru had implanted cells from both the First Hokage and the chakra beast into young orphans, hoping that one of them would be able to withstand the corrosive nature of the cells. Unfortunately, all of the orphans had succumbed to the harsh effects of the cells, their bodies turning dark and swelling into a mass of flesh.
Determined to find a way to stabilize the cells and create a successful assimilation, Orochimaru turned to the First Hokage's cells once again. With only one child left to experiment on and one last sample of the beast's cells, the Sanin started the implantation procedure. He sent an equal amount of First Hokage and beast cells into the child's body, then dropped the child into a special nutrition solution before making his way back to the village to await the results.
Orochimaru knew that his cooperation with Danzo was coming to an end after the third ninja war and the recent Hokage position battle, so he was eager to discover whether his latest experiment would yield the results he had been seeking. As he waited for the two weeks to pass, he could only hope that this child would be the one to survive and unlock the secrets of the chakra beast's regenerative powers.
However, unknown to Orochimaru, at the same time as his return to the village, Danzo was bringing records of his crimes against the village to the Third Hokage. Demanding that he act against his former pupil, Danzo hoped to stop Orochimaru from continuing his dangerous experiments.
The Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, was not naive enough to believe Danzo's claims but knew that his options were limited. He immediately issued an arrest warrant for Orochimaru, hoping to bring the rogue ninja to justice and protect the village.
However, Orochimaru was not one to go without a fight. Using his skills as a ninja and the information gathered from his trusted small snakes, he quickly gathered his notes and equipment from his secret scroll in his apartment and made his way to his apprentice Anko's house.
Upon arriving at her house, he tried to convince her to join him as he defected from the village, offering her the gift of a cursed seal of heaven. However, seeing Anko's hesitation, Orochimaru decided to leave her behind and quickly made his way out of the village.
As he headed towards the outskirts of the village, Orochimaru could feel the presence of numerous ninjas converging on his location. He couldn't help but chuckle, knowing that this would be just the beginning of his fight for survival.
Once Orochimaru had made it to the clearing, he was confronted by the Hokage and his ANBU. The Third Hokage demanded that Orochimaru turn himself in, holding him responsible for his unforgivable crimes against the village and its people.
But Orochimaru, never one to back down, sneered at his sensei and refused to surrender. Instead, he unleashed a terrifying jutsu, shouting "Formation of ten thousand snakes!" Tens of thousands of snakes erupted from his mouth, forming a wall of slithering bodies that advanced towards the Hokage and his ANBU.
The Third Hokage, however, was not taken by surprise. He responded quickly, flashing through hand seals and shouting "Earth Style: Mud Wall!" A huge mud wall rose from the ground, protecting the Hokage and his ANBU from Orochimaru's attack.
While the Third and his ANBU fended off the snakes, Orochimaru took advantage of the distraction and made his escape over the walls of Konoha. The Hokage, despite his skills, couldn't bring himself to go after his former student and left with his ANBU back to the Hokage Tower.
As Orochimaru made his way through the forest towards the border of the Land of Fire, he couldn't help but think about his latest experiment and its uncertain outcome. He was frustrated that he wouldn't be able to gather data on its progress, but he took solace in the fact that his lab was hidden even from Danzo and his ROOT.
Once he had established his base of operations with his subordinates, Orochimaru planned to send a spy to check on the experiment, knowing that the nutritional solution and cells should keep the subject alive for a few years. He was determined to unlock the secrets of the chakra beast's regenerative powers, no matter the cost or the consequences.
Contrary to Orochimaru's expectations, back in the laboratory, the child was experiencing a violent reaction between the separate sets of cells. In the nutritional pod, half of the child's body was turning dark black due to the beast cells, while the other half was becoming white with small branches forming on it.
The child was wracked with excruciating pain, causing its mind to collapse on itself. At times, a portal in the sky would open and a soul would rush out towards the lab. When the soul entered the lab and integrated with the body, the child convulsed even more violently. Eventually, Jason's consciousness absorbed the remnants of the previous child's mind and began to awaken.
The first thing Jason experienced was an intense pain all over his body. He was unable to think clearly due to the pain, but he knew that he had to push through it if he wanted to survive. He did not know how much time was passing, where he was, or who he was. But he knew that he had come to this world with power and a goal, and that was enough to fuel his endurance quirk and super regeneration as his body adapted to the cells.
Despite his uncertainty about how much time had passed, Jason began to feel the pain slowly subsiding, and his danger sense was no longer ringing. He was relieved to have survived the ordeal that the ROB had mentioned before he entered deep hibernation. However, he failed to notice the mass of dark purple flesh surrounding his new body.
A ninja entered the lab and quickly assessed the situation, noting the mass of flesh surrounding the pod. Concluding that it must have been a failure, the ninja left to inform Orochimaru. They knew they had to act quickly due to the ongoing reconstruction efforts following the attack by the Nine-Tail fox.
Unbeknownst to the ninja, the mass of flesh began to twitch and vibrate, gradually hardening into a cocoon. Time passed, years go by and the cocoon absorbed the nutritional fluid at a slow rate until it was fully absorbed. The cocoon then began to shake and vibrate frequently until it cracked open, revealing a purple hand from inside.
Jason had awoken from his hibernation and noticed that he was surrounded by a thick substance, finally breaking free from the cocoon and the pod. As he stood up and observed his surroundings, he slowly recollected memories from his past life, the life of the body he had taken over, and his conversation with the ROB. A smile spread across his face as he knew that he was starting his journey to becoming the Demon King.
