Everywhere was so bright that she had to close her eyes again. Mia opened her eyes slowly, trying to adjust them to the light. The beeping of a machine made her wish she could just go back to sleep.
After adjusting her eyes to the light in the room, she looked around slowly. The place was unlike her room. She squinted until her eyes settled on the needle connected to her hand. What was she doing in a hospital? Who brought her here? The last thing she knew, she was at Sheila's place. Where was Sheila?
Mia sat up and tried to pull the needle out when the door suddenly opened. She felt light-headed and tried to focus on whoever had come in so suddenly.
"Mia." The voice was gentle, and it kept repeating in her head. A hand held hers; it was warm and large. "Are you feeling better, Mia? I was so worried when I heard you were hospitalized."
She nodded, moving her head slowly until she stopped at the face staring down at her. "Jack?"
