Elijah looked around the dark. “What are we waiting for?”
“It was here. I left them all here.” He pulled in a deep breath. “They’ve walked in this direction.” He started off toward the beach. He’d hoped they’d all be here so Leo could take Elora, and he could carry Elijah. It would take them about an hour to walk to the beach, maybe more since they had to go at Elijah’s pace. He didn’t worry about time, but one hour was one hour more in the cold, and Elijah was already frozen to the bone.
“Are we close to a road?”
“Sorry. It’s this terrain all the way to the beach.”
Elijah nodded, deflating more. “Okay, let’s go.”
“Are you up for the last bit or do you want to stop and rest?”
“Do you want to rest? You’ve carried Elora for a long time now.”
He glanced down at her, wondering for how long she’d be out. “Nah, she doesn’t weigh much.”
