Affiliated High School of the New York State University of Science and Technology, United States.
The New York megacity is a very famous place that covers 1214.4 square kilometers, but this school is not very well-known on its own, and it doesn't have any celebrities attending it either. Fanny simply chose to attend this school because it has the best facility among the schools closest to his home.
"Sigh, it seems like there's still a year left..." Fanny muttered softly with a trace of anxiety between his brows. He stepped on the soft green grass, taking the shortcut across the well-maintained lawn to the school entrance.
"Sigh..." Fanny couldn't help but let out a long sigh again at the endless stream of people at the school gate. In another year, the world would be flipped upside down in an event beyond anyone's imagination.
"I'll say it one last time. I don't want to get a drink with you, and please don't bother me anymore, okay?"
A familiar angry voice suddenly reached Fanny's ears. He turned his head to find a group of people led by a tall and strong man surrounding a beautiful girl not far from the gate.
The girl had long flax hair, delicate facial features, a tall nose, and a pair of amber eyes filled with impatience.
Fanny's expression changed when he recognized the girl. He quickly walked over and pushed the tall and strong man away, standing between him and the girl.
"Bryan, what are you trying to do?" Fanny asked in a low voice.
Carson Bryan, the captain of the school's basketball team. His looks and skills seemed to be pretty good, making him one of the popular figures in the school. Fanny wasn't very familiar with him, but he at least heard his name.
"Fanny Helsed?!" The tall and strong man exclaimed in surprise when he saw Fanny. He then smirked, "Hey, Helsed, this has nothing to do with you, right? I just want to get along with the young lady behind you."
"Fanny!" The beautiful girl behind Fanny also called his name in surprise, which informed Carson about their acquaintance.
"She is my sister, so do you still think it has nothing to do with me?!" Fanny replied sharply, fearless despite Carson's clear height and muscle advantage.
"Your sister!?" Carson was stunned. He and his group obviously didn't expect this situation. His expression was slightly awkward. More and more students gathered around to watch.
Carson flinched at Fanny's cold eyes—and immediately felt embarrassed when he noticed his group's surprised look. He swallowed his embarrassment and stepped forward at Fanny, glowering rudely, "I didn't know she was your sister. I only asked her out for a drink."
"Are you deaf? Didn't you hear that she already refused?" Fanny maintained his fearless, piercing gaze. He wouldn't start trouble on his own, but he wasn't about to ignore blatant bullying.
"Fanny, forget it. Let's go," The girl pulled on Fanny's clothes, glancing at the increasing number of people around her. She obviously wanted to get this over with already.
Fanny was in agreement; he didn't want to cause trouble in front of so many people.
"Be careful, or you'll fall," Fanny said coldly, glaring one last time at Carson. He then pulled the girl away from the crowd.
Fanny's ominous words confused Carson. He turned around and asked his teammates, "What could he mean…."
Before he could finish his words, his left foot tripped over his right foot, and he fell to the ground, blood flowing out from her split lips. He didn't get any serious injuries, but he looked extremely miserable. The spectators were shocked, and a few girls screamed. The girl that Fanny pulled away turned around and saw the scene.
The two of them went into a car. The girl's large amber eyes were brimming with curiosity from the driver's seat. She stared at Fanny and asked, "What happened to that person just now?"
"Murphy's Law; if something could go wrong, it would. If you are worried about something happening, then it becomes even more likely to happen." Fanny gave a nonsensical explanation with a straight face.
"Bullshit!" The girl frowned with disdain. "I didn't go to college, and my grades weren't as good as yours, but that doesn't mean that I'm a gullible fool."
"Tsk."
Fanny curled his lips and didn't say anything, which angered the girl even more. She grabbed Fanny's ear, threatening, "Are you going to tell me or not? Or else I might tell Mom and Dad about you drinking."
"Okay, okay, let me go first." Fanny quickly begged for mercy and then muttered in a low voice, "You always threatened me with this, even though you're the one who wanted to drink that thing and forced me to accompany you!?"
Fanny was helpless against his sister. Had he known this would happen, he would've chosen a different sister.
What happened to Carson wasn't because of Murphy's laws or whatever. It was due to one of the abilities he obtained when he arrived in this world.
Fanny was not originally from this world. He didn't know how or why he came to this world; all he knew was that he suddenly became a baby who could only cry when he opened his eyes.
Fortunately, it seems that he wasn't transported to this world all alone and naked. He discovered that he had crossed over along with a powerful system that allowed him to extract all kinds of skills and abilities from various anime.
'Ars Magna.' This was the first skill that Fanny had extracted through the system. It could be said to be very, very, very powerful—enough to say 'very' three times. It was a pity that he couldn't unleash the full power of this skill yet.
"Ars Magna"
Source: "A Certain Magical Index"
Description: "Magic that alters reality according to one's thoughts."
'May all your wishes come true.' That would be the easiest way to describe the skill. When Fanny first obtained it, his excitement caused him to fantasize about all kinds of beautiful futures—which also caused his parents to have big dark circles around their eyes the next day.
However, when he calmed down, he realized things were not so simple. He realized that this ability didn't really work. He imagined that he had grown taller, but nothing had changed even after focusing for an hour, not even a single strand of hair. Of course, it could also be that he grew in a way that he didn't realize.
He re-evaluated what he knew about the system. He then discovered that the system could only extract the skills, but the usage of those skills depends on the user's capability.
In other words, it was his own fault that he couldn't use the skills.
Fanny felt as if he had fallen from heaven to earth—but not directly to hell because he realized that even if he couldn't use the skills right now, there might be a way to fully utilize them in the future. All his beautiful fantasies might yet be realized.
Fanny temporarily shelved the 'Ars Magna' skill and began to study the so-called Extraction System, which he named according to its function.
There are two very simple components to the entire system; the extraction system and an empty progress bar. Before he extracted his first skill, it was full. Obviously, the next extraction must wait until the bar was full again. He researched many ways to hasten the progress, but it seemed that there was no way other than to wait for it to naturally replenish.
Until that accident...
