Peggy Carter's remark caught everyone off guard, filling them with dog food (sweet and affectionate moments).
"Cap, how did you manage that?" Tony Stark teased, wiggling his eyebrows. "In this timeline, you're big and strong, but back then, you were still the short Steve. How did you win Peggy Carter's heart? Care to share some tips?"
"Tony, are you really asking for tips on relationships?" Steve Rogers raised an eyebrow. "With your charm, there's no woman you can't win over. By the way, have you confessed to Pepper yet?"
"So you're saying I need advice, Cap." Tony Stark pretended to be helpless. "I have no idea how to approach her."
"My advice is simple: be one percent as shameless as you usually are," Steve Rogers said.
"Well, isn't that obvious?" James Rhodes interjected.
"Only two people didn't see it," James Rhodes continued, "You and Pepper."
"Now that you see it, any suggestions?" Tony asked.
"It's straightforward—use the shamelessness you usually have but dial it down by one percent," James replied.
While the group was discussing Tony Stark's love life, the video showed Peggy Carter already engaged in the rescue of Steve Rogers' friend, Bucky Barnes.
Vroom! A motorcycle was speeding down the road, and a woman caught up with it on foot, matching its pace. Without a doubt, that woman was Steve Rogers' "significant" other, Peggy Carter.
"This bike looks nice. Mind if I take it for a ride?" Peggy Carter punched one of the enemies on the motorcycle, knocking him off. She hopped on the motorcycle, not particularly fond of it, and cruised through the traffic effortlessly, arriving at the enemy's camp.
The camp's gate was tightly sealed, but Peggy Carter easily ripped it off with her bare hands. Her agility and speed were almost on par with Steve Rogers in his super-soldier state. With a powerful bang, the iron gate opened.
Rat-tat-tat-tat!
The enemies inside the camp started shooting fiercely at Peggy Carter. Not only were there gunmen on the ground, but there were also enemies with machine guns stationed on higher ground.
For an ordinary soldier, this situation would be akin to walking into a lion's den. But for Peggy Carter, it was a piece of cake. She easily took down all the enemies around her, throwing them aside with every punch and kick. Rescuing Bucky and other prisoners seemed as easy as breathing for her.
"What! Women fight like this now?" A big-bearded soldier from the Howling Commandos looked astonished.
Peggy Carter didn't respond; instead, she acted swiftly, quickly dealing with the other enemies around her. With ease, she handled them one after another. It seemed as natural as eating and drinking to her.
"From today on, I get it," the big-bearded soldier said in amazement.
"You're the 107th Regiment, right?" Peggy Carter approached Bucky Barnes, stepping through the iron gate. "I've been sent by Steve Rogers. My name is Captain Carter."
With that, Captain Carter and the Howling Commandos set out to fight their way through the enemy camp.
Especially in one scene, Peggy Carter was at the center, flanked by Bucky Barnes and the other team members. With a loud bang, they broke open the gate and charged in. Then, there were shots of them taking down enemies left and right. Everyone witnessing this scene couldn't help but think of Steve Rogers.
In that moment, Peggy Carter looked exactly like Steve Rogers.
After breaking out, they faced more enemies, even heavier artillery, and tanks. Peggy Carter and the Howling Commandos took refuge in a trench for the time being.
"Requesting air support, requesting air support," Peggy Carter knew better than to charge recklessly. She requested support as the situation was too overwhelming for her alone, even with her abilities.
"Received, Rogers is here," Steve Rogers' voice echoed through the walkie-talkie.
"Rogers is coming!" In the answer space, everyone's spirits were lifted as they were eager to witness how Steve Rogers became a superhero without the super-soldier serum.
"In a situation like this, Rogers' appearance suggests that he is at least bulletproof," Bruce Banner remarked, his eyes fixed on the screen.
"Not just bulletproof, he should be able to handle those tanks as well," T'Challa added.
"During World War II, dealing with tanks wasn't an easy task. For Rogers to do so, he must possess some extraordinary power, requiring a tremendous amount of energy," Tony Stark shrugged. "So, it's quite evident how Steve Rogers became a superhero in that timeline."
"I didn't expect that," Bruce Banner said to Tony Stark, "In the 'Who Makes the Avengers Unite' question, you and Captain Rogers were mocking each other and almost got into a fight. Back then, you probably didn't think that Captain Rogers would walk the same path as you?"
"First of all, 'back
"You guys talking about?" Thor was bewildered, trying to make sense of the conversation. "Steve Rogers and Tony Stark walking the same path, and Rogers becoming a playboy too?"
Before anyone could answer Thor's question, the video had already provided the answer. In the sky, a bulky suit of armor flew over.
The blue light emanating from the eyes and chest of the suit indicated that it was powered by the Tesseract.
1
Compared to Tony Stark's sleek suit, this one was undoubtedly crude. However, considering that it was from the World War II era, when technology wasn't as advanced, creating such an armor was already an astonishing feat.
"Captain became Iron Man!" Watching this scene, Thor was dumbfounded, finally understanding what everyone was talking about.
"What's going on?" Thor wasn't the only one shocked; Peggy Carter, Bucky Barnes, and others in the video were equally wide-eyed when they saw the armor.
After landing, Steve Rogers lifted both arms and swung them down, smashing a tank with a single blow.
In the midst of the smoke and debris, Steve Rogers turned around and said to Peggy Carter, "Hey, Peggy, you owe me one now."
With his casual tone and the explosive background of artillery and smoke, that moment made Steve Rogers look incredibly cool. It was as if he had mastered the art of being cool, and Li Cheng even wondered if he had been guided by Chen Beixuan.
1
Boom! But before he could finish his thought, a shell hit Steve's face.
Steve Rogers stood still, and with a swift motion, he grabbed the tank's cannon with his iron hand and exerted force, crumpling the barrel. The enemy inside the tank was probably trying to fire the shell, but with no barrel, the shell exploded inside the tank.
With a loud explosion, the tank was disabled.
Peggy Carter, who witnessed Steve Rogers crush the enemy's gun, became extremely excited. She dashed out of the trench, eager to fight alongside Steve.
"Wait, she's friends with the Hydra Stomper?" The big-bearded soldier was surprised, his mind still occupied with Steve Rogers' right-handed feat.
"I think I'm his friend too." Bucky Barnes said with a hint of affection.
While Bucky's combat abilities might not be as impressive, he was undoubtedly the most extraordinary man in Marvel because his name could be read backward.
2
With such an extraordinary man as a friend, it was natural for Peggy Carter to be equally remarkable. As she saw Steve Rogers extend his hand toward a tank and unleash a stream of pale blue energy that annihilated it, she was eager to destroy a tank herself.
"Stark made me a pair of dancing shoes. What do you think?" Steve Rogers in the armor asked.
"Then we better start dancing," Peggy Carter said with a smile. She used her shield to pry open the tank's lid and threw a grenade inside.
Boom! Amidst the blazing fire, Peggy Carter leaped high into the air, jumped onto Steve Rogers' shoulders, propelled herself to the side of another tank, and with a swift motion of her shield, she cut off its wheels. The tank tilted and was instantly rendered useless.
On the other side, Steve Rogers made it look even easier. With a casual gesture, he flipped the tank over, then extended his hand, releasing a blast of blue energy that destroyed it.
The video ended with Colonel Flynn making a call, sounding quite proud, "It's called the Hydra Stomper, yes, Mr. President! Yes, sir, it was built by Stark."
The space dimmed, and the video ended.
"The Hydra Stomper, I have to say, that's quite a lame nickname," Tony Stark was quick to seize the opportunity to mock. "With a nickname like that, Rogers wouldn't survive to the modern day. Can you imagine Captain Rogers being an idol for countless Americans with such an unimpressive name?"
"While Captain Rogers can't use that nickname, it doesn't hurt to stomp on Hydra," Bruce Banner said. "Hydra is a group of maniacs. One Alexander Pierce wanted to kill millions of people. It's better to eradicate such an organization."
"Hydra must be thoroughly eliminated," Steve Rogers said sternly, "Whether it's for Bucky or for world peace."
"Second question beginning, prepare yourselves."
"How was Thor's hammer Mjolnir destroyed?"
"A. Crushed barehanded."
"B. Cut by a blade."
"C. Melted by extreme heat."
"D. Destroyed by magic."
"If you answer correctly, you'll receive Super Cooking skill. No matter how much you eat, you won't gain weight. If you answer incorrectly, one year of lifespan will be deducted."
3
Shortly after, the second question began.
As the question was presented, everyone's gaze fell on Thor.
Regarding Thor and his Mjolnir, there are too many stories to tell. Aside from the fact that Thor was initially "rejected" by Mjolnir, there have been two previous questions about "who can lift" and "who cannot lift" the hammer.
After several rounds of questions, although everyone still didn't fully understand Mjolnir, they had figured out one thing: Thor, the hammer's owner, seemed to know as little about it as they did.
"Mjolnir being destroyed?" Thor's eyebrows furrowed. "This..."
"Thor, if you say something like the hammer can't be destroyed again, I'll be the first one to scorn you," Tony Stark interrupted him before he could finish. "You've said 'impossible' about the hammer so many times, but each time, your 'impossible' turned out to be wrong."
1
"This time is different! In the past, it was about who was qualified to wield the hammer. But now the question is about the hammer being destroyed!" Thor tightly gripped the hammer. "This, absolutely, absolutely cannot happen!"
"Come on!" Steve Rogers couldn't stand it anymore. "Thor, you still have such an inexplicable confidence in the hammer. That really surprises me."
"Captain, you're just one person, a mortal. You know too little about us Asgardians. If you had even a little understanding, you wouldn't doubt me," Thor said in a deep voice. "If it were an ordinary weapon, of course, it could be destroyed. But it's different; it's Mjolnir, my father's..."
"Enough, Thor! I feel the need to remind you how many times your hammer has 'betrayed' you," Tony Stark interrupted him again, raising one finger. "About the hammer, the questioner previously asked two questions. The first one was about who could lift the hammer. You were absolutely certain that no one else besides you could, just like you are now. But what happened? Captain Rogers could easily lift it!"
"And when you were so sure that no one else could lift the hammer, the questioner asked the second question: who couldn't lift the hammer!" Bruce Banner continued where Tony Stark left off. "Besides Captain Rogers, at least three other people were able to lift it. Thor, although I feel sorry that your father's specially made hammer isn't exclusive to you, it's quite evident that you lack understanding about it."
"Fine!" Thor shrugged helplessly. "You're all right. I won't say anything anymore. Is that okay?"
"You shouldn't have spoken in the first place," Tony Stark said. "You had to take turns getting a reality check from each of us before you stopped talking. How does it feel to be proven wrong?"
"I can let you experience it personally." Thor flexed his arm, looking at Tony Stark. "Do you prefer your left cheek or right cheek?"
"Thor, how much do you really know about your hammer?" Bruce Banner asked. "There were already two questions about the hammer before. After going back, did you ask your father about what the hammer really is?"
"I did," Thor said. "My father's answer was enlightening."
"Oh?" Tony Stark became interested. "What did your father say? What are the conditions for lifting the hammer?"
"My father said I should discover it for myself," Thor said.
"...," Steve Rogers had an urge to strangle Thor. "You could've just said you don't know."
"Enlightening? Yeah right!" Tony Stark couldn't resist making fun of Thor. "With your head full of Loki, you lack the capacity to think."
"Thor, even though your understanding of the hammer is limited, it's still better than ours. So, what do you think about this question?" Steve Rogers asked.
"Crushed barehanded is impossible." Thor glanced at the options and immediately eliminated one. "Even if Mjolnir were to be destroyed in the future, it's not something that can be crushed barehanded. It's the most powerful weapon in Asgard!"
"Usually, that would be unlikely," Bruce Banner said, "but what if it's someone incredibly powerful, like the Thanos we've seen before?"
"Thanos is indeed one of the strongest beings in the universe, but crushing Mjolnir barehanded is simply impossible! Even my father wouldn't be able to do it!" Thor said with great certainty.
"I suddenly thought of a term..." Tony Stark said as he looked at Thor's unwavering confidence. "Thor's Law."
"Stark!" Thor wanted to swing his hammer at Tony Stark's head but refrained from doing so, considering that he was an important future ally. He suppressed the thought. "This is not just blind confidence. My father said the same thing. Even he can't destroy Mjolnir."
"How strong is your father?" Steve Rogers asked.
"As far as I know, my father has never encountered an opponent," Thor looked up at the sky and said, "I asked my father who was stronger between him and Thanos. His answer was that Thanos wasn't his match."
"Looking at it that way, crushing the hammer barehanded is really unlikely," Bruce Banner said.
"Not only is crushing it barehanded impossible, but using a blade to cut it is also highly improbable," Thor continued. "To cut Mjolnir, the blade must be an equally formidable divine weapon, but in the Nine Realms, I have never heard of such a blade."
"Even Thanos, with all his power, could only barely break Captain's shield with his double-bladed weapon, not to mention a hammer that's probably several times more advanced than the shield," Tony Stark chimed in. "Thor's statement is still plausible; the blade must be a divine weapon, a regular one won't work."
"So, what about option C, being melted by extreme heat?" Bruce Banner asked. "On the surface, this method sounds ordinary, but how was the hammer forged? If it was forged using extreme heat, then this option is also possible."
"The hammer was indeed forged using extreme heat," Thor nodded. "So, Banner is right. When the temperature reaches a certain point, it is indeed possible to melt the hammer."
"Which means, I can destroy the hammer?" Tony Stark's eyes lit up. "Thor, tell me, how high does the temperature need to be to melt it?"
"Stark, why are you so excited?" Thor immediately poured cold water on the idea. "I said extreme heat can melt Mjolnir, but do you really think it's as simple as just applying high temperatures? I've said it before; Mjolnir is made from a neutron star. Do you think you can melt a neutron star with high temperatures?"
"This...," Tony Stark hesitated for a moment, but remained stubborn, "Give me some time. I think I can figure something out."
"Extreme heat is just one condition; there are other methods beyond your understanding," Thor said. "For example, magic."
"Option D is about magic," Sam Wilson said.
"I believe D is the most likely," Thor said. "Option C is only a theory, and it's highly unlikely to happen in reality. I can't imagine a situation where I would throw Mjolnir into extreme heat to melt it
. On the other hand, option D is more probable. Perhaps someday in the future, I'll be in a battle with a powerful magician, and they'll use magic to destroy the hammer."
"Magic is mysterious and can do many unimaginable things. It's a new realm that we can't understand," Bruce Banner said. "If it's magic, I wouldn't be surprised either."
"Then, I choose..." Thor was about to make his choice.
"Wait! Thor, are you really not considering 'Thor's Law' at all?" Tony Stark said.
"I choose D!" Thor ignored Tony Stark and made his choice. "Destroyed by magic!"
