บท 99: Ch 99: Soul Devouring Insects

After flying for a couple days, Yang Feng returned to the Mainland. But this time, he didn't return to Water Spirit Temple, instead he came upon an open forest.

"*Ugh* where should I go now... *Haah* should have asked Shui Ling for a map.", Yang Feng grunted as he reached the shore. He then looked around and picked a random location before taking flight again.

It took him a few hours of flight to reach a settlement, which appeared to be a Tier 2 City.

Yang Feng then sentered the city through the gate and walked towards an inn. Along the way, he observed the people around him and heard their talks. But unfortunately, he didn't gain any useful information.

Shaking his head, Yang Feng restrained his aura and entered a nice looking inn. As he entered the inn, he looked around the inn and found people sitting on their tables and eating. He then looked at the reception desk and went towards it.

A young girl, that radiated the aura of a True Element Realm Cultivator, was standing at the reception and upon seeing Yang Feng approach, put on a practiced smile.

"Greetings good sir, what can I do for you?", Yang Feng calmly answered the girl, "book me one of your best rooms and prepare me some food and wine."

The girl was a little surprised but didn't show it. 'he must be one of those young masters. *Che* what a waste of handsomeness.' the girl thought disdainfully as she told Yang Feng, "Sir, the room would cost you 10 spirit stones and for the food, please sit and choose what you want to order.... Where will you be eating, should the food be sent to your room?"

Yang Feng shook his head and said, "No. Just prepare a table near a window.", the girl nodded and called an attendant to make space for Yang Feng to sit.

After sitting, Yang Feng gave his order and again started to listen to the people talking around him, trying to gain any type of useful information.

A few minutes later, his food and wine arrived. Yang Feng looked at the wine, 'let's see what this tastes like.' Yang Feng hadn't drunk any wine before but today he was in mood to try some and order it, just to give it a try.

As he continued to eat and listen, he got a general idea of where he was. 'So, this is a city near the border of human and demon region... Should I visit that secret realm? Nah, not to mention if I could even find it, it isn't worth the effort to go there.', Yang Feng thought as he chewed on some monster meat.

A minute later, Yang Feng broke out of his thoughts and noticed that the surrounding people had stopped talking. He frowned and spread his divine sense around. As he did that, surprise flickered in his eyes for just a fraction of second before he continued to eat as usual, again retracting his Divine Sense.

"This Friend, can I sit here?", suddenly, a musculine voice sounded from behind him. Yang Feng didn't turn around and calmly answered, "sure."

Hearing his reply, a muscular man came from behind him and sat down on the seat in front of him.

Yang Feng observed the man, he had neck length blonde hair held high with a black band, had slightly pointed ears. He wore a long black robe and word a bronze colored armor over it. He wore arm guards of the same color and material as his armor. In short, he was moderately handsome man with a heroic aura around him.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Daoist Cang Yan.", the man, Cang Yan looked at him with clear surprise before he calmed down and spoke with a smile, "the pleasure is all mine, Daoist Yang Feng."

Yang Feng pretended, "Oh! So fellow daoist knows my name?" Cang Yan thought internally, 'heh! This guy...'

"Your fame has been quite high after your performance in SkyFall City. Even if you went off the map for 2 years.", Cang Yan answered with a smile. Yang Feng internally blinked in surprise at that, 'I didn't know about that.'

"Ohh! So, what did I do to meet your acquaintance?", Yang Feng asked as he finished his food. Cang Yan answered after a few seconds, "... It will be easier as you already know about me. My sect master would like to meet you..."

Before Cang Yan could continue, Yang Feng answered, "sure, let's leave tomorrow." Cang Yan who was about to continue, just swallowed his words and looked at Yang Feng with a raised eyebrow.

Yang Feng chuckled and said, "even if you hadn't came here, I was planning to visit the Soaring Heaven Sect later on.". Cang Yan blinked his eyes before sighing, 'doesn't that mean that I made this trip in vain?'

Before turning around and leaving for his room, Yang Feng told Cang Yan, "you should book a room here too. We could leave at the earliest tomorrow." Cang Yan nodded as that was indeed a good suggestion and he would have done so without Yang Feng saying anything.

The two then separated and went back to their room. The next day, the two left the inn and flew at Cang Yan's full speed towards Soaring Heaven Sect. Yang Feng could fly many times faster and could even teleport a great distance away but decided against it.

It took them 8 days to reach near the Soaring Heaven Sect's area. "That entire mountain range in the Soaring Heaven Sect.", After the two landed, Cang Yan gestured towards the collection of massive mountains and said.

Just as the two were walking towards the mountains, Yang Feng was mentally counting the time. Just as Yang Feng reached '10', he and Cang Yan heard the rustling of bushes behind them.

"What are you doing here? Didn't master punish you with half a year of confinement? Don't tell me that you ran out...", Cang Yan turned towards the bush and stated. "Fei Yu", he continued as the figure of a beautiful women with an attractive body came out of the bushes.

The women had a curvy body, pearly white skin, black hair and watery black eyes and had a small mole on the corner of her mouth.

The women answered with a smile, "the old man sent me here, otherwise how could I come here." Her gaze then shifted to Yang Feng. Her eyes shined as she approached Yang Feng and touched his chin with two off her fingers while smiling flirteously, "and who is this little brother? Why does he look familiar.", causing Yang Feng to look at her in amusement.

Cang Yan shook his head at her ethics before saying, "don't make trouble. This is the person master was looking for." Fei Yu pouted and withdrew her hand from Yang Feng's face with a quite 'alright'. All the while Yang Feng continued staring at her with amusement.

Cang Yan noticed and told him in a hused voice, "hey, Brother Yang. You shouldn't look at her too much, although she behaves and dresses flirtatious way, she has a violent temper. The reason she was punished by master was because a elder from Luo Sheng Sect had looked at her obscenely and she..."

Cang Yan then gestured between his legs and made a chopping motion.

Although Yang Feng knew about it from the novel, he still cringed at the thought, as did Cang Yan who was telling him about it.

Yang Feng shook his head and answered, "Brother Cang doesn't need to say anything. She doesn't attract me in that way, it's more like, her character feels amusing to me as I know of someone who likes to flirt all the time but would get flustered quite easily."

Cang Yan nodded in understanding before the two were interrupted by a furious Fei Yu, "Hey! You two! I am still here." The two blinked and said, "Oh."

Fei Yu exploded. She placed her hands on her hips and asked with a menacing smile, "what do you mean 'Oh'." Cang Yan answered "nothing. Anyway, what did master sent you out here for."

Yang Feng mentally gave Cang Yan a thumbs up for the fast change in topic. Fei Yu's eyes blinked before she started telling them about how a group of desciples found a blessed land and after opening the seal on the blessed land, the group was killed by a swarm of exotic insects named Soul Devouring Insects.

Yang Feng's eyes shined as he listened, finally he could get his hands on those insects.

Cang Yan wanted nothing to do with the mission as soon as he heard about the insects, but Fei Yu just wouldn't let him go. He then tried to use the excuse that he had to bring Yang Feng to the sect master, but that too went down the drain when Yang Feng agreed to go with Fei Yu, taking Cang Yan along.

On their way towards the blessed land, Cang Yan asked him, "did you have to agree Brother Yang? Wait.. do you know what those insects even do?", Cang Yan felt that Yang Feng didn't knew about the insects and just chose to agree to Fei Yu's request on a whim.

Yang Feng looked at him with a smile and answered, "Don't worry too much Brother Cang. I know about the insects and am sure about what I am doing."

Cang Yan felt a bit better knowing that Yang Feng knew about the insects, 'from his confidence, Yang Feng likely had a way to deal with those insects.'

The three took a hour to reach the place. "It here.", Fei Yu spoke as she took out a talisman from her Universal Bag and infused her Qi into it before throwing it at the ground.

After the Talisman touched the ground, a hole appeared on the ground, or more like reappeared. 'a Soul Isolation and illusion array.', Yang Feng thought as he analyzed the method used to block the hole.

The three looked at each other before they jumped into the hole. After landing nearly a minute later, the three started to walk forward, while still being on a lookout.

They continued to go deeper into the cave with Cang Yan being the most cautious. Fei Yu looked at Cang Yan and complained, "hey! Hurry up! Why are you so slow."

Cang Yan snorted not wanting to argue. Right now, although Yang Feng had told him not too worry, he still did because unlike in the novel where Cang Yan knew about Yang Kai's Conflagrated Knowledge Sea, he didn't knew about Yang Feng possessing a Conflagrated Knowledge Sea.

The three continued to go deeper into the cave but didn't find anything, not even the previously entering desciples or their corpses.

After they walked for nearly an hour, did they finally saw something. But what they saw made Cang Yan and Fei Yu to grimance as they looked at the corpses of Soaring Heaven Sect's Desciples.

Yang Feng suddenly heard a buzzing sound coming from the end of the cave, where he could see a gate of sort. Cang Yan and Fei Yu also heard the voice and turned their heads towards the same direction.

They soon saw a swarm of illusionary looking black colored insects swarming towards them. The three looked at the insects with narrowed eyes.

"Soul Devouring Insects."
