Alex woke up with a start, taking in a gasping breath. Or, he tried to. Instead, he shoved in a ton of snow in his mouth before he realized he was under a huge mound of it. He swam his way out of it while coughing, spitting out the icy cold particles.
"What the hell?" Alex looked down at his body. Still tightly bundled up in warm clothes that were now covered in snow. He should have frozen to death. Gone through hypothermia. But he was feeling fine.
Better than fine.
Actually, he did not even feel cold. And it was not like it had stopped snowing. No, in fact, it was snowing more. The snow storm was at its height now, completely full of raging winds filled with hail and snow that looked like it was a scene shot straight out of the arctic.
But Alex felt just fine. He had passed out just as he saw a message showing on the screen hovering in front of him, so he had no idea what had happened. But there was one obvious difference.
His stats.

Alex had cleared the main quest. That absolutely insane, ridiculous main quest from before. He was almost sure he had died before clearing it, but maybe the bonus stats had kicked in and saved his ass. He was curious, actually-
Alex jumped up to test out his body, and to his surprise, he soared up a dozen meters in the air. And this was just a light jump, too.
"Woah!" said Alex as his eyes widened when he saw the ground rapidly approaching him. Instinctively, he clammed up and curled into a ball, but when he crashed into the snow, he felt zero pain.
He was not used to how strong he was.
But what he did know right now was that he was strong.
Absurdly strong.
Alex stood up and took in a breath. He busted out into a sprint, and his legs were so strong that they drove up two giant clouds of snow behind him as he shot forwards like a bullet. His body parted through the snow like a snowmobile, completely cleaving it apart with sheer power and velocity, and even with snow up to his waist, he was far faster than he had ever been before.
Alex was faster than any human alive.
Much, much faster.
This was insane.
Alex started to laugh to himself, amazed at what he felt. His body felt so light, so strong. The freezing storm air felt cool and crisp as it came into his lungs.
He…he felt happy. For the first time in quite a while.
This…this was power.
Real power.
Finally, he had it.
Alex stopped when he heard noise from afar. A huge, bustling commotion. He was still in the forest, but he knew the park proper was right beside. He went behind a tree for cover and tentatively peeked out.
"What the hell?" he whispered to himself.
There were tons of people at the park.
Mages, too.
Strong ones.
They were equipped in gear that crackled with magical energy. Flaming swords, lightning spears, shields that radiated with golden light, and so on. Some of them had on robes, but many of them had on sets of armor for mages who were truly professional Rifters were more like 'battle mages' that were not afraid to get up and close with monsters when it came down to it.
There must have been almost fifty mages there, and he followed their concentrated stares towards an enormous, swirling portal. Another Rift. It was colored completely white and outlined by shards of whirling snow.
A dangerous Rift, too, if it drew a response as large as this.
Which meant it was just about time for Alex to get the hell out of there. He really did not want to be spotted and questioned now of all times. His car and stuff were still there, and those could lead back to him, but he could explain it all off as him having left it behind for shelter after he saw the storm.
Getting out there was surprisingly easy.
The Rift had seemingly just formed, so the Rifters there were first responders. Soon enough, though, tons of Rifters and mages would come, for Rifts in the middle of cities were extremely dangerous, capable of spilling out monsters that would have no hesitation savaging apart the ordinary citizen.
Under the cover of the winter storm, Alex sprinted away at superhuman speeds before anyone really could notice him. He kept drew up his hoodie as he got into proper roads before he hit a dilemma.
Would he just start sprinting across the roads? Maybe. Security cameras didn't work when it was this cold, and with so much snow and wind, he doubted anyone would ever see him. Still, he did not want to take chances.
Or maybe he was just excited to try this out.
Alex looked up a building, a three-story building complex, his eyes zoning on the snow capped top. About twelve meters high.
He took in a deep breath, and then he jumped.
